Did you know that Rhodesian ( spelling ?) ridgebacks if born as puppies without the ridge they are put to sleep as according to the kennel club they are not right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is regardless of them been healthy otherwise.....

Yep. The kennel club are to blame for so much.

Even if they know that a female with an heriditary birth defect is still being allowed to breed they won't do a thing to stop the owners from carrying on breeding from her.....just as long as they get their money from registration of the puppies and the Bitch is KC registered.

They don't do anywhere near enough to safeguard the wellbeing of the dogs. It's about time they got off their backsides and DID something rather than just holding out their grubby little hands for the money. xx

They breed son's with their mothers and brothers and sisters and see no issue even though the kennel club in Sweden has banned this practice due to genetics.

The pictures of how dogs have changed in as little as 100 years shows how they have altered due to inbreeding.

that women who carried on breeding her cavalair even though she knew it had that very painful disorder and would pass it on!!

and I can't believe that Crufts don't take health into account when judging winners

Can i just say as a dog breeder, that yes some of that program was correct and yes i would never put a healthy puppy to sleep or breed from a dog or bitch that i knew carried a disease, but that program was very one sided

did it show all the good breeders who have spent years and years trying to breed out these lines no they didnt not once

there are two sides to dog breeding remember that

tho i doubt you will as those images of ill dogs will stay as will the idea that all pedegree dog breeders are the same

Im sure your a very responsible breeder,perhaps people like your self could put pressure on The kennel Club.
I have to say the people who represent the Kennel Club came out of it looking very uncaring and frankly Stupid.

Had to switch the programme off, just found it too upsetting. Too many people breeding too many dogs for too much money. Kennel Club will never change their ways unless new laws are passed but that won't happen because they have so moch power. Personally I would not pay out for a pedigree dog, too many problems with them, although I love alot of the pedigrees, If you look at mongrels they are much more in proper proportion, have proper noses etc.

I agree with you Hilary,But There will always be people who want to breed.
The way forward is to get rid of the Breeders who just dont give a hoot about the animals welfare.

Actually the KC makes a lot of rule changes to every breed, but unless every single ped dog in the uk was health checked and those that carry a disease stopped from being used at stud or as brood bitches

my grandad was a top kennal club breeder and crufts........ :)))
my great grandad was a breeder aswell... :)))
and i breed my lhasa...... :))

steve i agree hun not all dog breeders are bad and it did show breeders in a dim light but everyone is adult enought to no not all breeders are the same

Steve I know quiet a few breeders and won't tar you all with the same brush but as someone has already said it made the KC look dreadful and some of the breeders comments about ridgebacks were disgusting - they should be ashamed of themselves
