Yes David, know what you mean, Michael Caine always plays the same sort of charecter in the same way.....he making a new film at the moment for release later in the year, I saw it on film 2009 the other day, as usuual he was wearing a beige mac......... do you think its his? rather than part of the costumes departments for all his films?

Watched the Will Smith film I am Legend on Sky last night, not for the squeamish, but was quite good, Will Smith was very good in it, and as I always say.... Pleasing on the eye......... Just loved the German Sheperd dog in it, he stole the show. Have any of you seen it?......i think its adapted from a book, sure you`ll know all about that Ed......

Its the Dancing On Ice final tonight, think Ray Quinn is bound to win, he`s very good but just SO smug, that I can`t take to him .....he seems to make a lot of people feel like that, I didn`t like him on the Xfactor either, and couldn`t beleive he made the final 2!!.

Hi all, yes remember the name No Hiding Place but don't recall watching it.

Not really in to Will Smith, another one I can't take to...oh I am a fickle old bird!! I had a nice Mother's Day thanks Nicky, my son popped round with his girlfriend for a while and my daughter is still at home so it was like a usual Sunday. Hope you had a good day with your girls.

a deserving winner in Dancing on Ice, but as my hubby says he has got the sort of face you want to smack...such aggression! Shame Jessica didn't get to do The bolero.

Sad about Jade goody, wasn't a big fan but any death of a young woman is sad and very unfair.

Been painting a fair bit, really enjoying it too. Must start to think of some more good films though!

No I haven't seen I am Legend - not read the book either (there you go Nicky - one you beat me on!) The ball is out for me on Will Smith - personally, I can take him or leave him; liked him in I, Robot (excellent collection of short stories by Isaac Asimov), but tend to shy away from his comedy films.

Yes, Pam, I agree Ray was a deserving winner last night - but unlike your OH, I think he just seems to be a nice young man who is confident in his abilities. If anyone on that show has a face you want to smack then it's Jason Gardiner!

Shocking about Natasha Richardson - I always said skiing was a dangerous pastime (can't see the appeal of strapping a couple of fence posts to your feet and hurling yourself down a snow-covered mountain myself, but there you go). Also sad about Jade Goody; like you Nicky I wasn't a fan either but I feel for her kids more than anything.

Studying like nobody's business at the moment - still on track for sitting exam 1.

Need to start thinking about films again Pam; we're starting to go off-thread!

It's like winter here in north Norfolk! Not going far today.

I'm going to watch a film this afternoon on Channel 4, The Gentle Sex. It's about seven women from different backgrounds who are brought together as volunteers in the Auxiliary Territorial service during WW2. They all become good pals during training and on assignment driving military transports and operating anti aircraft guns. I've seen it before on telly and it was one of my dad's favourites too. Real good old fashioned British drama. the lovely Lilli palmer is in it too.

They speak in that lovely old fashion posh way too. "Heppy Darling?"

We`ve had a beautiful day...wall to wall sunshine but a bit breezy, often is though being on the coast, walked the dog down along the seafront this morning, .....nothing like a good walk on the Prom when the weathers good.

Caught a bit of that channel four film earlier Pam......know what you mean .......when they all speak as though they`re in an elocution lesson.....!!.

Yes Ed. I loved I Robot as well, but like you can`t take to his comedies.

Hi Nicky, yes it was really wintery here today! We're not far from the coast and nice sandy beach...about four miles. Last week it was very mild and I walked along the there with my daughter and her boyfriend. Amazing how the weather changes in a few days.

Yes it was a good film, and they don't make them like that anymore do they. I often watch the afternoon film as I work nights occasionally as you know.

Have we mentioned Reach for the sky? You know I don't think we have. A wonderful film, with kenneth more brilliant as Douglas Bader. Thinking about it a bit more I've a feeling in my water (as my nan would say) that we have mentioned it on our thread.

Well if we have, it's worth another shout!

Ah David, Brief Encounter, it has to be one of my very favourite old films, never get tired of watching it.

The River Wild... Meryl Streep at her best, and Kevin Bacon as a very sinister criminal on the run.

Armageddon.....Bruce Willis saves the world, with a strong supporting cast.

Die Hard.......Bruce Willis again {sorry} and the brilliant Alan Rickman, battling for supremecy in a skyscraper full of hostages.

Terminator was on tv the other night OH watched it ...AGAIN!!, couldn`t believe how long ago it was., Arnie at his best before he got in to politics!!.

2001 a space oddesey..... must agree brilliant musical score.

Be intresting to see after a while which actor/actress pops up the most.......Bruce Willis defo in the lead at the moment with 3 films........

Did any of you watch Silvester Stallone in Cliffhanger. A good story well acted and ample opportunity to flex those muscles

He also took a good part in Paradise Alley playing the flabby brother of a wrestler.

Morning all, lovely bright day here, still very widy and chilly though.

Right here are my five films, although there's so many films that I like but these are romantic ones that get my vote...

Ryan's Daughter.
I mean you could understand why Sarah Miles character wanted to sh*g the georgous Christopher Jones...being married to boring old Robert Mitchum and his wind up gramamphone...(no that's not a euphemism!)

The era was portrayed so wonderfully and it's the only film where Richard Gere didn't look to bad.

Jilting Joe.
Yes a very low budget film and the outcome is blindingly obvious...but it stars James Purefoy, and he looks so handsome in it...I can't watch his scenes without smiling in a 'Matt Groening creation' kind of a way! ha ha.

Dulcima.
Carole White, John Mills and a very youthful Stuart Wilson. It was made in 1971, I was 16 and watching it evokes such lovely memories of that time. The country side is glorious and it is still an Englnd where the country side that has changed very little since the war really. Very unexpected ending! Love this film, and it's never shown on telly. I have a much loved video of it and DVD.

Brief Encounter.
Another one which I like purely for the fact it's set in a gentler time and people keep their clothes on! Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard are brilliant in it though.

Yanks is a wonderful film, saw it at the cinema when it first came out, think it was about 1979......definetly pre Officer and a Gentleman days for Richard Gere, I love the bit where he bakes the cake for the girlfirends mother, and as she unwraps the box, she rolls the string up and keeps it, a sign of the times that the Yanks wern`t familiar with, being thrifty/rationing etc.....

What was it they said about them?...

That's right Nicky, you've got a good memory. It really is a smashing film. The dad played by Tony Melody says "Well we're having this though." as he holds the bottle of scotch that Richard Gere (Matt) has brought for him. The little brother makes me laugh when he calls out "Jean, the Yank's here!" So typical of kids. Also when he's getting him to try out canned fruit, very sweet. The kids loved the yanks didn't they. Remember the scene in the chippy, Fish and Chips 50 times or something similiar, everyone in the shop groans.

Great film.

I remember when The Sound of Music was released. My Mother went to see it almost every week for a couple of months
