as in saucepan lids, lol
The phrase that gets me is, You see what i,m saying,,,
No, I HEAR what your saying;
Anyway I gottta split there are some Dodgy Saucepans (nusaince children)

I agree Thomas, and most of what has been mentioned here I would refer to as "colloquialisms".

I have rellies (colloquialism) who are butchers by profession and they speak a form of slang where words are pronounced backwards (with a few extra letters to make it pronouncable). They can literally have complete conversations speaking backwards and it is very difficult, if not impossible, to understand what they are saying - which is of course the intention.

I can't even remember how it started but my neighbour and I used to talk it all the time in our twenties.It may have come from the time I was training at a skill centre and we would get up to anything to get one over on the instructors.Silly really but very much like grown-ups at school again.

The over-used and mis-used word 'literally' as in 'He literally laughed his head off.' (No he didn't!! It can't happen!!)

The phrase 'speaking for myself, personally' makes me scream

Have to say I was guilty of saying 'ah, bless' - until a friend said to me: 'What are you, a vicar?'

It's something Americans have, Awdrey - often on a Toosday, whenever that is. LOL

Edit: Should perhaps add that I lived in the US for a year, loved it and in no way am anti-American. (Just in case anyone's briefing their lawyer right now) LOL

Hi All - personally I do no like the word "fag". Ciggy,cigs, etc are acceptable to me. Also I do not like,and it happens on the BBC, when people miss out the letter "T" in a word, eg Ma'lock, Sco'land. Their standards are slipping badly these days.

Mine is 'you guys' and 'scumbags' also overuse of the f word. Ok if you have dropped something on your toe!

Another one I cant stand is Nan for Grandmother.
