Morning all:) I used to think like that and compare my humble writing with writers I love, and then I would stop. But 'comparisons are odious' and the way I look at is, it may not be great writing but there is someone, somewhere who will admire and enjoy it! Plus it gives one pleasure. Do not read books which make you doubt!! lol BC XX

BC Lol!! But it is good to doubt if they then put you on the right track. But apparently 70% of people suffer from imposter syndrome. There is a web site about it www.impostersyndrome.com
So if most of the world suffers from it we are normal!!!

Morning ladies ,

Glad to know I am 'normal' then !

When I read poetry and say to myself WOW, it does set me back a bit. But we are all different, with differing styles and vocabulary. I know nothing of the techno stuff and don't really care TBH.

If peeps read my poems I am grateful, they don't have to like it..lol

What am I like? (don't answer that!) I have just been sorting through various book cases with a view to offloading some more books to a charity shop - took a load yesterday!

I found a copy of The writers Handbook 2002 Loads of addresses etc in there, possibly a lot out of date. Now dilemma, should I keep it or bin it??

TeresaW Report 19 Mar 2010 12:41

Ann I've got 2010 and thats out of date. I'd suggest bin it when you've got 2011. lol

Ohhh, the good old impostor syndrome. Stopped me writing for years and years. I felt totally intimidated by some writers, especially the likes of Stephen King.

Yet oddly, it was his book, 'On Writing' (which I cannot recommend enough) that actually inspired me to learn more about the craft

I now realise that all those brilliant writers actually had to learn their craft themselves, and will all have suffered the same 'growing pains' as the rest of us mere mortals.

Every aspiring writer needs a BC behind them to give them a kick and tell them to ignore these feelings Lol!!!!

*takes a deep breath* I have just read that post about Imposter syndrome, Ann... thank you.

I have had that all my life... any time someone has told me I have a gift or a talent for something.... I wait to be *found out*.

As a child any budding little bubble of confidence was brutally burst by folk who should have known better, as well. So I was always *found out*, too.

Now.... I am beginning to acknowledge that I am fairly ok at some stuff, and it doesn't matter anyway, cos if you like and enjoy what you are doing... then carry on doing it.

So... please may I join the writing group? But don't tell me if you hate it... just tell me something I need to work on, lolol!!

Love
