It's the inconsistency that annoys me. VIVinHERTS renewed last month for £7.96 I renew on the 8th of this month, January for £15.96. I have been a member since 2003. I'm pleased for Viv and I agree that it's good value for money, but there is no balance or fair play in GR's pricing structure.

I remember the discussions last year about varying costs of renewal. Nearing the time of renewal I asked GR what would be the cost for me, and was quoted a figure that would have been at least twice what I had been paying. I decided not to renew. As the time approached, from curiosity I clicked on renew at the top of the screen just to see exactly what the figure would be. As the figure was the same as I had been paying, I decided to renew straight away :-)

As mentioned enough times, it is not the price, it is this companies method of saying one thing then doing something else.

I decided that if I was going t be charged £15 for 6 months less discount that would be £24 year.......did I get the option to take out a yearly sub for £19.95 less discount....NO...had to pay the full price

Been with FMP for 4 years and decided this year to switch from 6 monthly to yearly....and guess what, I spoke to a real person on the telephone, who said yes of course we will take 20% off of that sub for you

This site just wants to get rid of their members or get them to take up their over priced records.....well it is if you want access to the lot

So you think it is funny that others who have also been long time members, have to pay twice as much?

Not funny just very lucky......been a member since May (or thereabouts) 2003.

So why should others (including myself) also members from 2003 pay double Mr. Magoo. If the boot was on the other foot would you be happy?

Over 12 months ago they said that they were slowly bringing everyone into line - how long is a piece of string.

If an increase was on the line - then e.g. a date should have been set whereby all renewals after that date paid the larger amount.

I´m sure we have been here before & 12 months down the line, no one is any the wiser........including the Genes team. :-S

I think that even the shortest break for whatever reason must alert their computer to change the cost for that person. I have never had a break of any sort and last year my subs were £7.95 for the year.
I suspect with all this furore they will go up this year

Hi Ann, I have never had a break either and have had ten years continuos membership. Someone has just mentioned on another thread that seven months ago they paid just £6.00 for a full year so how did GR work that out.

For me this is not about the money, as I'm sure you know, just the unfair way GR is treating its members. My renewal is due any day now and I really seriously considered cancelling my membership but the fact is I love research and helping other people with theirs and as M is no longer here it helps to fill my time

The subject comes up time after time.

I raised the subject of disounts about three years ago. My renewal date is June, I wasn't granted a discount yet members who had renewed in May and July had. On raising the subject with GR I was told that the offer had ended!!! Work that one out!!!
Basically, they/he/she plucked and excuse out of the air - as usual.

I got little response on my thread and was even advised (by another member, who was on a discounted sub!) that we ought to keep quiet about discounts in case GR put everyone on the same (full) sub.

As has been said already, it isn't about the cost, it's about unfair charging.

WHY has someone been charged just £6 yet others are being asked for nearly 20 for one year? It's nothing to do with length of membership!

Gosh £6 now, although a couple of years back i think I was charged £6 something.

Wendy, that is strange if you have never had a break it doesn't make sense. I do think you would regret it if you didn't renew though.

Maybe the £6 is the conversion from dollars??

You are allowed a month before you renew for it not to affect any change in prices

Ann - I have never had a break since Dec 2003. I have asked now the same questions that I and others asked a year ago and the answers are different!

Last year reply was everyone was being brought slowly into line how slow is slow? Yesterday's reply from Alex is that I had a break - that my sub for 2012 was not paid until 2013.

Now the reason is that on 24 December 2012 I received notice that my subs were increasing twofold on 6 January 2012. I complained and around this time it came to light that others were paying different amounts.

Another member pointed out that this was against the rules when an increase applied so GR decided to give me an extension of another 3 weeks and my due date was 21 January 2013.

a) I am told that subs are increased
b) I am now told that my sub was not paid on time hence
break in continuous membership
c) I know this is incorrect so therefore should not have had
an increase!!

Work it out. I have unearthed some statements and going by what others have been saying there has before this debacle, a difference in subs.

OOPs - another letter will be on its way to Alex as guess what?

On 27 December 2012 it was ALEX who informed me that my renewal date had been extendedby three weeks to 21 January 2013!

I originally I enrolled on 31 December 2003 now some years later the renewal date became due a week later - something is niggling me that there was a messup possibly with the site and some members got vouchers and others a weeks extension of payment.

Can anyone recall this?

I pay the asking fee as you all do. I don't have a tree on here but it's useful for other info.

The extra week was when the site was unavailable for some reason for a length of time I think.

What I was saying Chris was, if they have you down (in error) as having a break, even though you know you didn't. the fees are computer generated so the computer thinks you had a break.

Mr Magoo - I do not have a tree on here - do not buy vouchers - have FMP. The trouble is that GR play around with the asking fee. It is the inconsistency which is wrong and it does appear that admin is sadly lacking.
