Twice in two days I have had those nice people who ring you from India get angry and slam the phone down on me.

If I am not careful they will be taking me off their list.

It is quite surprising that I am on here at all because the lady told me my computer would be blocked in fifteen minutes and that was a couple of hours ago. She must have forgotten or be too upset to be doing it!

I had one today here in Spain.
Said his name was John Watson, from Microsoft but he sounded very Indian to me.
OH thought I was being really rude when I put the phone down on him, but OH is Spanish & this is all relatively new to them.

My sister phoned British Gas regarding her electric and gas bills last week, to ask why they were both read separately and she received two bills from the same company.............

At the end of the conversation she asked the person at the other end of the phone if she was working from Britain.............. no, was the answer. ... South Africa ! :-0

I kept her waiting ever such a long time while I went upstairs to get mine. Well, I wasn't paying for the call was I?

We kept her on hands free so she could entertain us all and then I only forgot the computer when I came down.

The day before I just agreed with everything he said like, did Ilive in a house or flat or bungalow. Well yes, of course I did!

I've not had one of those calls yet but I might answer with summat like,

well thank you for telling me, I'd best run it up to PC World, or somewhere....
or
"Bill Gates is my brother in law, I'll get him to see to it!"

SylviaInCanada Report 23 Aug 2014 21:52

I get lots of those calls, 2 or 3 a week sometimes.

I usually say rather plaintively "But I don't HAVE a computer"

They splutter .....................

and then I put the phone down

But these two lost their tempers with me!

One accused me of trying to fool her. Well there's a thing. It would never cross her mind to try to fool e.

maggiewinchester Report 24 Aug 2014 00:40

I had yet another 'international' call today. They're apparently informing me that I can get a government funded new boiler. Sometimes I 'answer' and leave the phone off the hook, or I just let it ring as it's a pre- recorded message. Today it rang as I was just about to eat my dinner, so I picked it up, pressed 'answer', then pressed 'end call'.

One day they'll get the message :-|

I'd really like to know why these spam calls can't be stopped, especially the pre-recorded messages telling blatant lies. I'm sure if I started randomly calling people and telling them this sort of bull on behalf of the government, I'd soon be prosecuted. :-| :-| :-| :-| :-|

LadyScozz Report 24 Aug 2014 02:11

last week I answered the 'phone, and heard

Please hold for an important message

I didn't hold!

Whoever it was hasn't 'phoned again.

:-S

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 Aug 2014 03:36

and are you now worrying as to what the important message was all about??? :-D

I keep getting Rachel, or alternatively Amy, who both want to give me very important information about my credit cards and / or credit rating

I press Off as soon as they say their name

We do have friends or rellies with those names, so hope I don't do it to one of them one day, by mistake :-D

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 24 Aug 2014 04:18

lol Sylvia......... I haven't lost any sleep over it.

Our surname is unusual....... one of those almost unpronouncable Cornish ones...

As soon as they say........ is that Mrs WhatTheHooHaIsYourName, I hang up.

:-)

But...... I often make sure who is calling first, as we have friends from many places, English isn't their first language.

When Fred had his cataract done the black South African(don't even sound like white South Africans) nurse rang the next morning to check on him and I slammed the phone down.

It wa only after I had realized who it was and rung up to grovel that she told me that most people do the same!

I've had this call several times
phones rings pick up phone say hello then after awhile a female voice says goodbye how odd is that :-S

Sharron

Sharron Report 24 Aug 2014 09:06

Yes, she has rung me a few times.

Ages ago I took part in one of their surveys and gave the wrong name and information so, if they ring up and ask for the name I gave, I know exactly where it came from.

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 24 Aug 2014 09:21

I read some of the posts to DH

He said..........

"next time you get a call like that, tell them you don't have a 'phone, and how did they manage to find you"

:-D

I like the way he thinks

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 24 Aug 2014 09:22

When I get any of these sort of call I just say, hold on a moment, pick up the whistle I keep beside my phone - give a good long blast of it down the phone and hang up :-D

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 24 Aug 2014 09:25

OFITG ~ I was told not to do that (with the whistle) because they might 'phone you back and do the same, with a louder whistle!

If I can't be bothered with them I put the 'phone on the bench and walk off....... when I get back a few (or a lot) minutes later, they're usually gone.
