Why do they get cross with you if you argue back? Don't they realise that they are running a scam?

Like someone else, I was foolish enough to answer one of those 'lifestyle' questionaires. He ended up recording the wrong house number. When someone quotes that, its easy to spot where they got the details from.

I've done the
'play along with them',
leave the line open but walk away, '
Thank you I'll ask our (relative) as he is an IT help desk manager for a major company' (true),
Argued that microsoft never call you.
Which computer do they mean
We have an Apple system
Ask them to tell us who our provider is.
And the normally used - we don't take cold calls and put the phone down

When I get calls like that the devil in me comes out. I often ask them what colour knickers they're wearing (if they're male). They never ring back.

Or, I tell them their call is important to me and they are in a queue. I then sing to them while they're waiting. They never seem to wait long and hang up.

A lot of these callers are supposed to work from a fairly rigid script so I like to bugger that up by asking them what they had for tea, and if they had gravy on it. Or do they think I should put pansies or petunias in my window boxes.

Sometimes I just tell them to eff off.

I had a phone call once about claiming PPI told him I had never had breast implants so I was not worried. This was at the time when PIP implants were in the news bloke hung up on me.

I told OH about some of the responses on here .....................

he laughed, then said "I don't get any calls like that"

Right ...........

.......... the computer he uses when he goes into his office at the university is registered to the university, not him, and they have super super security, etc.

His computer at home is linked to mine, and mine is the one that has all the registered software ..................... plus I'm the one who usually answers the phone

............... that's a hangover from the days when he was still teaching, and we could get students phoning at all times of the evening and night (and weekends) ...... especially just before or just after exams.

He's been officially retired for 10 years, but "volunteers" out there ............. he actually has 2 offices and 2 computers to use for his "volunteer" work :-)

I had yet another 'international' call today. I let him speak.
It was a 'home/lifestyle' survey.
Second question - 'Do you own your own home?'
My reply 'No'.
Him 'Aah'
Me 'Does this mean you won't bother me anymore? - Good'.

Apparently, if you live in rented accommodation, you don't have a lifestyle!!
Oh, and more to the point, you won't be buying double glazing either!

I had an Asian sounding man came on the phone trying to sell me PVC goods.
Pvc gutters and fascias he said, got them says me. How about doors and windows, have them as well I said. What about a PVC conservatory, yes I would love one of them says I.
I now detect a change in his voice. Can we call and do a survey and when will it be convenient
Anytime you wish says I, but tell the man to bring a pair of steps, as I live in a 1st floor flat.
He rather rudely , hung up on me.!!!!

Those 'technicians' who say they are calling from Microsoft must be desperate to meet targets or something.

I have had 4 calls TODAY.

Very pleasant-sounding woman phoned this morning and told me we had problems, but after a few words I ended the call. I couldn't believe it when she phoned straight back and asked why I had put the phone down.
She was concerned that unless she helped fix things, there would be alot of problems later.

I told her there would be even more if I let her fix things and hung up.

in my new Good Housekeeping magazine received today it says if you dial 14258 immediately after putting down the phone on a scam call, the next time they call you they will get the engaged tone - will be giving it a go

my friend's 92 year old Dad loves scam calls - they make his day

last one he had told him he had a problem with his computer - "Have I really, I had no idea" We can fix it for you said the caller - what will it cost - very cheap - how do I pay? - a debit or credit card will do - hang on while I get one - I'm upstairs at the moment - after about fifteen minutes with the caller saying "Hello - hello" he picked the phone up - sorry about the wait but when I got downstairs I realised I do not have a computer!!!

the previous one was allegedly from his electricity company promising to cut his bills by 50% - how do I do this he asked - just a small charge the man said - so you'll be needing my credit card details? well not just yet - well do you have a piece of paper? Yes I do - well can I suggest you use it to wipe your **** and clean off all that b******t you just spouted

Having read this post previously I was READY.

No.1 - Gentleman very interested in being told I had 14 windows plus two porches all mainly glass. He sounded excited as he asked for my address and I enquired as to whether he would care for my landlord's telephone number first. 'You have a landlord' he screeched down the phone and when I affirmed - he slammed the phone down.

No.2 This afternoon Asian lady with very thick accent, hard to understand but gist was in two days time I would receive a mail from Microsoft to download apps. Very easy to do and they would help me to download to my computer. At this stage I queried 'computer?' Yes - have not got one - you do not have a computer? No............long pause--------'do you have a laptop?' - No. She at least apologised. :-D
