Just come in from my band practice.....good night with our lady singer who sings a bit like Otillie Paterson.

Looked at your links and the one on 1950 isn't us,but strangely enough,Ted Calvert used to come to jazz clubs and had a sing with various bands ,but he did join us on a lot of gigs and I have an LP we recorded with him singing at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester.he also came to the Cavern sometimes ....he was a character but never knew he was the brother of Eddie Calvert.

He joined us when we were the Crescent Jazz Band and now it has made we wonder did he influence us being called The Collegians?.it was our agent Paddy McKiernan who wanted us to change the name to play 1920s style music..or so we were lead to believe..hence the striped blazers and straw boaters.

On the other picture supposedly 1962....the picture certainly isn't that date .it is an old one they may have used.same front line and banjo ,different rhythm section.before I joined in late 58.....anyway ..all very interesting.

I copied the pic of the Geoff Wilde one and sent it to California to Denis ...trumpeter who is feeling sad at playing his last gig last week over there.
There comes a time when we have to realise that it gets too much...it's not the playing ...it's transporting instruments...unless you have a roadie!

I never had that problem as all the pianos were in situ...acoustic but not always in tune...I now have a digital stage piano and more mikes are used these days.

Anyway,I must thank you again for getting all this info.
I've looked up a few things,but mainly used the Jazz North West site which is wonderful and all one mans work and hobby.

Feeling nostalgic now!!!????!

Sheridan Smith is brilliant <3

Sheridan Smith gave a good performance.When she sang Anyone who had a heart she looked very like Cilla, and I think Cilla Black would be pleased.
I look at some of the outfits and think 'I wore something like that' lol

Bobby's smoking gets on my boom booms ;-)

After watching Sheridans performance had to listen to Cillas version

I think the best record Cilla ever made was 'Alfie' I love it...

Enjoyed Cilla's records many years ago at parties........ but not a big fan.

I'm with you Jax Sheridan's voice is so much more enjoyable. :-)

I also agree with Jax and Jo that I think Sheridan is lovely and her voice is very good.
I like her version better.
I also don't think her nose looks like Cillas was before the nose job..she is really a lovely looking bubbly girl.
Does Bobby never have a cigarette out of his mouth?

I enjoyed it too last night, I think Cilla would have had a great deal of input in the programme to make sure it was factually correct.

Sheridan was on This Morning before the first programme went out, and she was saying that she only got the voice right when the teeth went in, also Cilla was ment to be on the show but was unwell. I love it and cant wait for next week

Did anyone see the programme after the ten a clock news with Paul O'Grady and Cilla? very good

The program after was a repeat just like the Beatles 50th anniversary that was on last week which I have seen 3 times this year
