The latest thing for arthritis & inflammation?

http://www.rosehipvital.com.au/

Has anyone tried it?

Does it work, or is it yet another "miracle cure"?

I've tried everything from krill to fish oil and back again. :-(

I'd like to see the difference in the ingredients between the human, canine and equine versions!!

I made rose hip syrup once, out of dog roses. Must have been very bored, or 'creative', as I had no children at the time :-S

Looking at my non-dead-headed roses, now is the time of year to do it!!!

LadyScozz Report 17 Nov 2014 00:48

Mum fed us rosehip syrup when we were kids.

I haven't seen the stuff for years.

If my memory is working.... we got rosehip syrup in summer and codliver(YUCKY)oil in winter.

Not many rose bushes around here....... they don't like the humidity. I bought some roses when we first moved here (8 years ago), put them in a vase and they lasted 2 days! They closed up and turned black.

We got Virol - winter and summer, when we moved back to UK !

you could always turn to First Nations remedies

Western Canadian First Nations often used a plant called Devil's Club as treatment for arthritis and rheumatism

The stems and leaves are densely covered with stiff spines which break off at once on entering the skin or clothing ...... and are intensely irritating

The Haida used to beat the site with sticks of Devil's Club, others made poultices from the leaves

I think the intention was to cause a counter-irritant :-D

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Nov 2014 01:10

and I am NOT making fun of you

I have arthritis in almost every joint of my body, and my spine is degenerating in 2 areas because of it

I have to laugh about it or find something to laugh about it, or else ............................

LadyScozz Report 17 Nov 2014 02:16

me too Sylvia, if I didn't laugh I'd scream.

I have a piece missing in my spine...... and my cousin (mum's sister's daughrer) has an extra piece... she has a tail! I've always told her she has my missing bit.

Oh this thread brings back memories of Virol, and also Cod Liver oil and malt. probably both the same thing. I remember the orange juice from the clinic but don't remember gripe water, altho I did get it for my son who used to get colic. Syrup of figs was another thing, every weekend.
I did like the Virol type things, because of the sweetness. My son preferred cod liver oil on it's own and would remind me to get some so we didn't run out. He had it for years, till he was at least 8 I think. He now takes cod liver oil capsules, at 32!

cod liver oil is supposed to be good for arthritic joints :-)

OH takes one (???) every day ....... and he's more than twice your son's age :-)

If I think REALLY hard, I can still taste the cod liver oil..... 60 years later!

YUCKY YUCKY YUCKY

I take Rose Hip tablets along with my Glucosamine every day. Does it work? I don't know :-D Do they stop the arthritis progressing? Again I don't know, but I carry on taking them just in case.

In desperation I recently tried something new and while I accept this might be only temporary/a fluke/all in my head I am delighted with the results. Product is not available yet on NHS and is quite expensive to buy but for me it's worth it at the moment.

When our children were babies they had the choice of free orange juice or free Rose hip. They preferred rose hip, I think it was sweeter.

In the early 40s when I was little I can remember having orange juice and cod liver oil and malt. I did also have virol buy I think one was free at the clinic and one had to be bought in the shops. I don't know which way round. My OH takes cod liver oil capsules, he doesn't have arthritis (yet) but does suffer occasional aching joints in his hands. It does seem to help him.

We could collect Rose Hip syrup or orange juice from the clinic when our children were small. They preferred the orange juice and it was also a very good ingredient for orange cakes too mmm

Mam gave us a spoonful of cod liver oil just before we set off for school and I always hoped we didn't have to run for the bus (umph )... We had a family story of when Uncle was giving Virol to me when I was a baby, he turned around to speak to Mam and the contents of the spoon dripped all over me face lolol

TBH I don't believe any claims unless I read the clinical trials, old cynic that I am.

IF this was effective our consultants would be falling over themselves to get it included in their routine advice.

As a child I had malt and cod liver oil, orange juice (yum) collected from the clinic and later I loved my kids gripe water..lolol but then I like Farley's rusks too ;-)

I also had ghastly poultices slapped onto my chest and various pastilles burnt to HELP my breathing :-0

I used to be given orange juice for my children.
They never got it (too sweet in my opinion), so I bought St Clement's squash for them :-D

Being a bit thrifty, I used to drink 'their' orange - delicious :-D
