I quite agree, Detective. I find it much more interesting when they delve further into the past, and don't concentrate on just one ancestor :-)

I like the in depth on an interesting ancestor, but would also like to see them go further back as well. :-)

I agree with Amokavid. Too long spent on his grandfather, though it got more interesting towards the end :-)

Like most have you have already said, it was interesting, but I was pleasantly surprised when they left Paul's Grandfather's War Experiences and covered further back.

I think I would have preferred 50/50 of each rather than 40minutes of the first part.

It was interesting to see the different places involved in his family's history, and as Ann said... The Scottish scenery was amazing :-)

Wasn't as 'bad' as I'd expected.

Beautiful photography; they were lucky it was sunny while they were in Italy.

I enjoyed it overall. The 2 military historians bought home to us all what was happening in the areas they covered.

The post runner was intriguing but I would liked to have known what the percentage of the population covered could read and write in the late 1700s. The runner was in his 80s in 1841 so his 40s were around the turn of the century. I know most of my ancestors were making their mark at their weddings not signing their names well into the 1800s.

Was a great story though and showed how tough he was to do that week after week though out the year. Walking 120 miles every week in the Highlands takes some doing.

Thought it might get boring as they paid so much attention to his grandfather but it worked well. Hope next week's as good. :-)

The first 40 mins could have been cut in half at least

They could have worked on another couple of ancestors in that time

They just kept repeating themselves too much

Enjoyed the last 20 mins & I had a few questions too

It was a lot better than some of those on last time - and notably The Ice Cream one & Rick Stein's one - now that lone episode could have driven me to quit watching the show altogether

Hope next week has a bit more interest & less repeating

I agree with the above, I just watched on 'Catch Up' and found it overly long at the beginning but enjoyed hearing about the post runner in Scotland even though I'm not a fan of the big kid featured.

I'm not into so-called celebrities.

Agree that too much focus was on one ancestor of Paul Hollywood's but it was obvious that PH adored his grandfather and that's rather nice.

However, I think the programme makers need to make sure that the programme is more rounded and they failed to do so in PH's case. Were they in awe of PH?

I don't like this new series at all. I agree with Joan completely it has now become a documentary.
