Its not nice is it. I had it done about three times now but I hope you have got through the worst which I find is going to the loo A LOT. because I get migraine from not being able to eat properly for so long. You will be given something to relax you before the procedures so should not feel or care very much about what is being done. It will soon be over and done with now so try not to worry and I will be thinking of you tomorrow. xx

Yeah well the relaxant did not do a lot for me, hate to think though what it would have been like without it.


After my dad's first colonoscopy he was quite dozey (more than usual) when we took him home. Then he started wandering around and OH said what is he doing, it was getting near night time and was hoping he would go to bed as we were going out to a party... then he starts fossicking around in their huge cupboard of all sorts and out comes a bottle of brandy.. OH says he can't have that, I say let's see first..then he filled a small glass right to the top. I said let me carry that for you so you don't spill it and took it into the bedroom and put it on his chest of drawers by the bed. Then came the undressing process, we waited and waited while he sang and gradually got undressed and into his pyjamas. He got into bed, forgot about the brandy and went to sleep. I covered the drink with a paper towel and we left.

We stopped on our way home at some ungodly hour of the morning after the party and he was still out for the count. Next morning he rang and thanked me for leaving a brandy for when he got up it was just the shiney shilling to start his day.

We have had lots of fun over the years with him and his tests.

I've been probed :-)

The good news......... they gave me a sandwich and two cups of coffee; nice sandwich & the coffee was REAL coffee, not instant.

The not so good news....... they removed several polyps, which have to be tested. :-(

The other not so good news...... They found something "suspect" which couldn't be removed today, I'm booked in for "surgery" Friday 20th. More goop to take next Thursday, and back to the diet from Monday.

The staff were absolutely wonderful, all lovely people...... and I found out that the surgeon lives here, in my town! Yikes. If I meet him in the supermarket, will he remember my face? :-D

What a bummer :-( :-(

Don't worry Lady S...just believe that they are doing their job of prevention.

2 yrs ago I had 11 polyps removed..think most people get them,especially women,
I had a suspect as well,and had to have another check last year to see if it had not changed.

The prep is worse than the actual procedure and I really hope I don't have to have another,but I know what you're going through at the mo and hope it's soon over and back to normal.

Repeating what Brenda said, don't worry unnecessarily.

I had a colonoscopy in November when polyps were removed and a "suspect" found which had to be removed later. This was done in December and I had a few anxious days waiting for the results. When the letter came it said that the growth wasn't cancerous and no treatment was needed apart from another check in five years' time.

The prep and the waiting for the results are the worst thing so I understand what you are going through. Sending you a cyber hug <3

The doc showed me photographs, of the polyps and the "suspect" whatever, and they look entirely different. The polyps looked like weird little sausages & the other thing was a mass of white & red blobs.

On a different note.......

When I arrived at the clinic, a nurse did the usual BP etc, left me to change into a tie-at-the-back gown, paper slippers, paper undies & a towelling robe (with a paper hat in the pocket). I wandered into the waiting area & found about twenty people wearing the same outfit. Sat down opposite a man...... who had his knees wide apart :-0 ummmmm .... he was wearing the same undies, rather transparent........... I decided I needed a wee........ went to the loo, returned and sat in a different seat.

I did wonder about the undies........ and after the procedure I was still wearing them, with the crotch cut :-0 :-D lolol

Pleased it is all done. At least your polyps have gone so no need to worry about them. I had mine removed and I know it is easier said than done but do try to not worry. And no the surgeon will not recognise your face if you meet in the street ;-)

Sylvia... it's only half done. They're removing the other thing next week.

Next week I'll be more careful about where I sit in the waiting room. :-D

I have today received my appointment for my check for that end but we are away on our hols. I have been trying to ring for a change of appt. but can not get through , the voice keeps telling me they are experiencing a very busy time.

Glad to hear that you survived :-D

Now to get through next week as well.

OH has been in your situation ............... try not to worry, at least you know that the cleansing is not as bad as you feared!

A bit late joining this thread.... I can't help being slow ;-)

Had my probing done some time ago now and the pre procedure clear out was the grimmest part for me.

No matter how uncomfortable it is remember it can save your life!

One of my brothers died from bowel cancer so I was fast tracked when my symptoms didn't resolve after a few months.

Very fast results and thankfully nothing sinister re my DD the surgeon decided that intervention with the 'knife' was undesirable if I could manage with a Peristeen at home (which I can).

My point is - no matter how uncomfortable/inconvenient (no pun intended)/embarrassing the investigation it may just save your life.

Sylvia ~ I'm not sure how next weeks procedure will be done. The doc said it wouldn't be quite the same as Friday's. I don't really want to know details, just do it!

Wondering if he could give me copies of the photographs, so that I can scar the **** out of people. :-D

did he at least tell you whether it was day surgery again?

Sylvia IC....... yes, it's another day surgery. On Friday I was at the hospital for 4 +1/2 hours, I expect the next one will be about the same.

On Friday DH went shopping, to a big hardware store & also searched for a new coffee maker (hard to find these days, with all those silly pod machines around). Not sure what he'll do for hours next week, I suggested he goes to a movie :-)

Geez, these doctors don't mess about when it comes to money.

Last weeks' procedure cost us $250 for the hospital (if either of us go to hospital, that's the excess we pay each year, covered by private insurance). I won't have to pay another $250 this Friday.

I got a bill yesterday, didn't really look at it properly, until the 'phone rang about half an hour ago......... someone from the doctor's office, asking if I want to pay the account! Pay the account, for something that hasn't been done yet!

Last week's procedure didn't cost anything, all covered by the Government (except for the hospital cost), but this Friday isn't fully covered. How much? $1,319.20. The Government pay $351.90, and insurance pays $117.30. That leaves a gap of $850. Thank goodness I now have a pension card, because that reduced the cost to $600 out of pocket.

I hope the treatment you get reflects the amount you pay LScozz. We in UK should stop complaining about the NHS and be glad we don't get hit by bills like that.

Ann ~ we have private insurance, very expensive, but worth it. If we didn't have it we'd get stuck with the whole bill, or go on the government waiting list...... by the time you reach the top of the list, it's usually too late. We know many older people who have been waiting years for surgery (one man has been waiting over three years for a knee & hip operation).

and........... the preparation kits cost $25 each!
