Smoked for over 40 years, stopped four years ago....But I would never be smug! I do feel proud though, as every photo of me over the years, has a ciggie in one hand and a glass of wine in the other....Now it is just the glass! lol BC

Never smoked nor has my husband, - apart from the one cigarette his Dad caught him puffing on as a youngster. He made him finish it and that was the 1st and last one for him. None of our 3 adult children smoke either.

I've never smoked. My dad and a lot of his friends did though, and I always associated lighting up with being followed by a lot of coughing. My dad had emphysema and died of cancer. My father-in-law smoked almost incessantly until his 3rd heart attack. He stopped overnight because they wired him to a heart monitor so he couldn't get to the balcony outside the ward where you were allowed to smoke. Having not had a fag for a week, he just never had one again. But his house used to reek of smoke. I don't like coming home from a night out with my clothes smelling like ashtrays. Very pleased that both my boys think smoking is a) disgusting and b) stupid nell

only sometimes when I'm totally out of my tree. But have to admit to enjoying the odd cigar on special occasions.

Tried it, didn't rate it, so never bothered again. Mum is also a non smoker but has lived with smokers (my dad and sister) for over 60 years in total. She is still hale and hearty at 86 - not sure what this says about the dangers of passive smoking !

I'm sat here in the lounge with my patio doors flung open listening to the birds.......Time to shut the doors now!! my neighbour is home from work which means that she will be sat out on her patio smoking all evening completly oblivious to the fact that her FAG SMOKE fills my room and lungs......feel better after that moan.Thank You.

Bella, sorry to hear that, it must be annoying if you are not a smoker yourself. Shirley Ann.

I am SO glad I never started on this 'killer' when I was young, there was a lot of social pressure to do so. I watched my sis-in-law die before my eyes with lung cancer after a brave six month fight and horrendous treatment. The manufacturers of cigs are now targetting the third World as we, in the west, are becoming more aware of the dangers -I think this is criminal. I wonder what Ken Clarke thinks after he's pocketed the considerable directors' fees from a tobacco company? Thank goodness I should soon be able to go out for a meal in a 'smoke-free' atmosphere! Hi Yvonne - I guess when you reach you 80s or 90s your lungs are bound to contain some of the stuff you've breathed in over the years. My mum's just grateful she still wakes up each morning !

To all you young smokers (like Princess Steedie) - do you realise how disgusting your lovely clothes smell, to others? When I worked in Manchester I used to be amazed at the smart young men and women who reeked of tobacco, as I walked past them in the streets! To take all that trouble to 'look good' then spoil it with that awful smell baffles me. Lily
