After a huge brick wall I have finally identified a child in 1841 census called Catherine Basset. Her father William Bisset in on Ancestry as buried in India. Could some kind person with International look him up? Wife also called Catherine.
This would help me with my gg grandmother who is probably her aunt! - Sarah Bosisto/Basset
Lots of thanks and Merry Xmas

No that is not his marriage.
It was at Magwan by Pydar 2 May 1782 to Catherine Harris.
The 1841 link is Sabby (Sally) Tippet in Kea Cornwall. With her is a child Catherine Basset age '15'.
I think Catherine is the niece of Sally/Sarah Basset (on marriage record)
Name seems to be Bosisto originally, all baptisms at Helston, Cornwall.
William maybe Sarah's brother, date of his death would help explain Catherine in 1841 census.
Complicated I know after 10 years trying!!!

Edits (are you meaning Death of her Father, from a 'green leaf' hint on Ancestry, if so, take caution!)

Anita

Anita Report 8 Dec 2016 16:01

That would fit with her age but not seen the Susan.
Green leaves on ancestry are like tea leaves - interpretation is varied!
The one does have all three names William wife Catherine and child Catherine. That's why date would help me with family links to my ggg.
Thanks

That is Sarah Basset's marriage.
She was a 'right one'. Gave birth to first child in Launceston jail!

???

This one lived to a ripe old age:

First name(s) William
Last name Bisset
Birth year 1807
Death date 03 Jan 1887
Death year 1887
Age 80
Place -
Presidency -
Archive Reference -
Folio -

Catalogue Description -
Record set British India Office deaths & burials
Category Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records
Subcategory Deaths & burials
Collections from Great Britain

he was described as a Lieutenant Col and died of congestion of the lungs.

Edit: There isn't a place of death. The record is just a letter from a surgeon stating he had attened LT Col William Bisset and his cause of death; the letter has the address The Grange, Guernsey.

EDIT: I guess this one is born to late to be your man! Only just re-read thread and saw the date of his marriage.

Anita you say "that is his marriage" but the marriage in Mawgan in Pydar is not to Catherine Harris it is to Elizabeth Strongman

Gee Report 10 Dec 2016 11:16

If Catherine Bassett is 15yrs on the 1841 census, the William who married in 1782 couldn't be her father. Guessing 'that' man would have been born about 1762 which would make him around 70 years old at the time of Catherine' birth!

Also as Jude has pointed out, the marriage that safc posted has the wrong bride (name)

Of course, I could have completely misinterpreted the entire thread!!

This is the girl on the 1841 census

Anita Report 10 Dec 2016 15:06

This needs unpicking. The last baptism is the correct one. William who married Elizabeth Strongman was the father of Catherine's father.
Could there be two India deaths as the ancestry hint (yes, I know, don't trust them, check them) names wife and daughter as Catherine.

Cripes, now I'm confused. It might be an idea to post what you know for 'certain' and have 'absolute' evidence for this family.

I would assume that you have worked your way back from GRO certificates to ensure that you have the correct family/people?

I know that you understand how unreliable other peoples trees are. But REALLY, they are!
