There are loads of William Bosistos! Though none marrying a Catherine as far as I can tell.

I agree with Gins, to help you, we need to know how you got back to these people

Anita Report 11 Dec 2016 14:08

I have absolute from GRO on Sarah/Sally Basset marriage to Thomas Tippet. 1841 has them with Catherine Basset age 15. I have only baptism for Catherine from Cornwall OPC at Bethsada Chapel, St Columb and marriage William Bosisto and Catherine Harris same place. My reasoning is Catherine must be with a family member.
The only William who fits with Catherine Harris is one born St Buryan with a sister Sarah.
The India death may be a red herring as the family would never be able to purchase a lieutenancy BUT in the Madras Native Infantry may have allowed an enlisted soldier to be promoted.
I do not use any other trees as evidence.
The death I still need is the one green leaved on ancestry: William Bisset (variation in several PR entries for Bosisto, as is Basset) wife Catherine, daughter Catherine.
All above contributes but most duplicates what I have.
Thank you

There is a Catherine Basset born in 1798. Now here's a curve ball.

On the 1851 that Chris posted, Catherine uses the name 'Harris'

Could there have been a little mix up of names either in the parish records or when undertaking the research for the couple, the researcher became confused with the names? Or, could the names below, be correct!

Marriage date 13 Nov 1827

Parish St Stephen in Brannel

Place ST STEPHEN IN BRANNEL

Groom's first name(s) William

Groom's last name HARRIS <<<<<<<<<<<<<

Bride's first name(s) Kitty

Bride's last name BASSET <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

There is no image to check on FMP. If one exists, you girls will find it

Added: The above marriage may be the reason why daughter Catherine, although born before the marriage of above, was not baptised until 2 years after her birth

Added again!

Birth year 1798

Baptism date 25 Feb 1798

Please look at Gins post above- needs looking into, and don't want it to be ignored, just wanted to get this down:

Anita:

"The death I still need is the one green leaved on ancestry: William Bisset (variation in several PR entries for Bosisto, as is Basset) wife Catherine, daughter Catherine"

I don't see a death on Ancestry that matches quite what you're saying- however, if you don't have World access I'm wondering if this is what was 'greenleaved'?: (If not, can please show the information that is given from the 'greenleaf')

India, Select Deaths and Burials, 1719-1948
Name: William Bisset
Gender: Male
Spouse: Catherine
Child: Catherine Bisset

If so, then it's actually a death record for daughter Catherine, and not William. Two come up with the same basic info as I've just given- these are the details when you open them:

Name: Catherine Bisset
Gender: Female
Burial Date: 18 Apr 1840
Burial Place: Trichinopoly, Madras, India
Father: William Bisset
Mother: Catherine
FHL Film Number: 521842

Catherine Bisset
Gender: Female
Age: 0
Birth Date: 1843
Burial Date: 9 Sep 1843
Burial Place: Palamcottah, Madras, India
Father: William Bisset
Mother: Catherine
FHL Film Number: 521843

So unlikely to be related.

Anita Report 13 Dec 2016 14:55

OK. I believe the entry by AustinQ with mother called Jane is an error by vicar on entry. There is no marriage for a William Bosisto/Jane anywhere in Cornwall. So
Ist marriage is William Bosisto (1759-1822) to Elizabeth Strongman 2 May 1782 at Magwan in Pydar
Their son is William Strongman Bosisto
2nd marriage is WSB (1790- ) to Catherine Harris , information from the two baptisms above at Bethsada Independent naming mother of Catherine and John
Catherine is then in 1841 with Sarah Tippet nee Basset (on marriage cert) aged 15. Cath. possible death as above in 1846 age 18.
My Sarah Tippet Basset born 1796 (age consistent in census and DC) died in 1864; not on the date ever other tree on ancestry has (copied from each other no doubt).

All the above helps and indicates there is a second Catherine Basset in Cornwall and the one in India is not 'mine'

WSB has a sister Sarah 1795-1795 then another 1796. The shift in name is common. The name Bosisto gradually vanishes into Bisset, Basset.

My problem still is linking Catherine in 1841 to Sarah somehow through family. Sarah was not the sort to take in a stranger and the family were very poor.
Need to look at the other Catherine found above.
Anita :-S

Anita Report 13 Dec 2016 15:11

IF the various ideas that Catherine was illegitimate and baptised with her mother's surname, after mother and father married (??!) then I need to see if that Kitty Basset had a sister born mid 1790s!
Still trying for that family link.

It's all very confusing- the Catherine Bassett/ Bissett on the 1841 census with Sally Tippett is not this Catherine:

Catharine Basset
Birth date 18 Jan 1827
Baptism year 1829
Baptism date 17 Apr 1829
Place St Columb
Denomination Independent
Father's first name(s) Wm (occupation Miller)
Mother's first name(s) Cathane Harris

The above Catherine had middle name Bassett, surname Harris- this is her with parents in 1841:

Name: Catherine Harris
Age: 12
Estimated birth year: abt 1829
Gender: Female
Where born: Cornwall, England
Civil Parish: St Columb Major
Hundred: Pyder
County/Island: Cornwall
Registration district: St Columb Major
Sub-registration district: St Columb
Piece: 149
Book: 7 Folio: 61 Page Number: 3

William Harris 40 Miller
Catherine Harris 40
Catherine Harris 12
Philippa Harris 8
John Harris 5
Mary Harris 2
Elizabeth Harris 2
-------------------------------------------

The Catherine with Sally Tippett is 15 in 1841. As ages are rounded down she could be as old as 19.

I cannot sit here most days. So sorry for delays.
I am not looking for William Bosistos apart from William Strongman Bosisto, identified above born 1790. Parents William Bosisto and Elizabeth Strongman.
WSB had a wife called Catherine Harris - baptisms at Bethsada Independent.
If I can find WSB and wife Catherine in 1841 or identify deaths pre 1841 then it may help with who Catherine Basset age 15 with Sally Tippet nee Basset in the 1841 census.
Sally is the person I need to find ancestors for.

(how many WSB's are there?, lol)

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 15 Dec 2016 12:40

You don't seem to be considering the other evidence that's been given.

William married Jane Buzza. This is them in 1841:

1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
Union Place, St Mary, Truro, Cornwall, England

William Bosustow Male 50 1791 Cornwall, England
Jane Bosustow Female 55 1786 Cornwall, England
Ellen Bosustow Female 14 1827 Cornwall, England
Sarah Bosustow Female 12 1829 Cornwall, England
-----------------------------------------

And in 1851:

1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
Middle Rosewin, St Clement, Truro, Cornwall, England

William Basisto Head Married Male 61 1790 Cordwainer Helston, Cornwall, England
Jane Basisto Wife Married Female 63 1788 - Kea, Cornwall, England
Sarah Basisto Daughter Unmarried Female 22 1829 Dress Maker Truro, Cornwall,
--------------------------------------------------

The children baptised in Bethsada Independent Chapel, were brought up with surname Harris (middle name Bassett). Both Catherine and John appear on the 1841 as Harris, with parents, William Harris (Miller) and Catherine Harris.- As has been posted above.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 15 Dec 2016 12:54

I think you need to start again. You're wanting to trace the parents of Sally/ Sarah Bassett that married Thomas Tippett in 1816 in the parish of Kea, Cornwall (Witnesses were Henry Shewes? & Mary Deeble)

This is Sally Bassett and Thomas Tippett in 1841:

1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
Tomperrow, Kea, Truro, Cornwall, England

Thos Tippett Male 45 1796 Cornwall, England
Sally Tippett Female 45 1796 Cornwall, England
Wm Tippett Male 15 1826 Cornwall, England
George Tippett Male 16 1825 Cornwall, England
Catherine Tippett Female 13 1828 Cornwall, England
Martin Tippett Male 11 1830 Cornwall, England
John Tippett Male 9 1832 Cornwall, England
Sally Tippett Female 6 1835 Cornwall, England
Harriot Tippett Female 5 1836 Cornwall, England
Catherine Basset Female 15 1826 Cornwall, England
-----------------------------------------

Based on the surname, you thought that Catherine could be a relative of Sallys.

As I posted earlier- Catherine could have been as old as 19 as the ages of people over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5.
