Hello there. I'm hoping somebody out there will be able to help me find details about my great-grandfather, John B. Walker.
I'm very new at family research so I'm probably going wrong somewhere! I have scoured the census and BMD records as much as I possibly can but getting no further than 'maybes'.
If you can help, my father and myself would be so incredibly grateful! Here are the details...
John Bertram Walker (as written on my grandmother's birth certificate)
Born 1885 in Tottenham (according to 1911 census)
Married May Barnett in 1910 in Romford, Essex.
Worked as a Bioscope Operator and lived at 42 Seymour Gardens, Ilford (1911 census)
Described occupation as Electrician on grandmother's birth certificate.
Had one daughter, Kathlyn May Walker in 1915.

I can't find him on any other census that I can say is definitely him. The only person who might be a possibility is a Bertie J Walker on the 1901 census, born in Tottenham in 1883 working as an Engineers Clerk, but it seems unlikely.
Again, any help would be fantastic.
Thank you for reading :-)

Mary Report 7 Feb 2017 14:24

This looks like the one on 1901 census as stepson to John Edwin Flood.

Catherine Jane Green had son John Bertie Green D qtr 1882 Edmonton V03a P308 mums name not shown.

Edmonton is Tottenham area.

Catherine Jane Green born 1861 to Elizabeth Rathbone born Windsor Berkshire and John William W Green born @ 1831 Plymouth Devon they married in Hackney 1860

Catherine Jane Green married J/A/S 1897 in Edmonton 3a 781 to John Edwin Flood.
Catherine J Flood died 1908 in Tendring Essex

1911, Sycamore Lodge John Street Brightlingsea Essex
John Edwin Flood widow private teacher born Taunton @1844 he died 1/9/1928 probate to Anna Louisa Flood spinster £134

I can't figure out how or why he was Bertie J Walker in 1901 census!!

Shirley - My grandmother married twice. First marriage was to Francis A. Andrews in 1936 in Bromley and had a child called Christine. We don't know if they divorced or if he died in the war. Granny moved to South Africa without her daughter (Christine was alive up to 20 years ago, we don't know where she is now and I can't find any details about her either!) sometime in the 1940's. Granny then married my grandfather in SA or Rhodesia as it was then, in 1950 and had my dad a year later.
Unfortunately, as you can tell, it wasn't the done thing to find out more about her family. Dad is kicking himself that he didn't push for information :(

Maryb. I keep thinking this is him too. Perhaps he changed his name before he got married to May?! Who knows!!

ChristinaS

ChristinaS Report 7 Feb 2017 17:23

I think the John Bertie Green posted by Maryb looks promising.

I would assume (only an assumption) that his father was a Walker. He's under the name Walker in 1901.

Sara Report 7 Feb 2017 17:50

Maryb... I've had a closer look at the information you gave me, thank you very much for that.
It does look very promising, as ChristinaS says. I'll keep on researching and will let you all know if I get anywhere!

Thanks again :-)

I saw the marriage to mr Andrews bu couldn't see any other info

I was thinking if she married the cert should name her father and whether he was still alive at that time . But it's not a given that a father would be given deceased even if he was .
