Sue

I was looking up all your Spanish on the website and translating to English.
I used UK Google site to do it. Not sure whether our one does Spanish or not.
I chop and change on Google - as often I can get more OZ information on yours or more Irish on the Irish one etc.

Tec - that same Cat managed to get a flight to London as well.

Bi Allan and Sue

Try and have a cool day in Oz.
We are off out for lunch shortly - in Avondale - another surburb and then into the big smoke (suppose that is a bit of a rude word in Oz) to see the lawyers. That'll cost just to say hello - I think they charge in 10 min lots.

Hi everyone
sorry I'm late, I know you have all disappeared but I still want to say hello to you all.
Tony, Carole and Perse I did so enjoy your Song's/ poem's, isn't it funny how we all have our own version of the night before Christmas lol.
It seem's weird to the Aussie's to have snow at Christmas as it is weird to the Brit's to have sunshine, do your card's have summer scene's on them as our's have winter one's. Just thought I'd ask as no one has said what their card's are like on the other side of the world lol.
Well tomorrow is a busy day for me so I will not stay up to late, oopp's it already is late.
I will bid you all goodnight / morning or afternoon as it probably is now in your neck of the wood's,

Alison if your looking in hun hope your feeling a little better today, take care

I'm off up the apple and pear's ( stair's ) oh dear I don't have any ah well I'll just go into the next room and get into bed lol

Bye all till we speek again, enjoy your day the rest of you

Diane, We have both types of christmas cards... some have beach scenes with pohutukawa trees and some have busy little kiwis at the beach or elsewhere. Some have baubles hanging on a piece of barbed wire fence. Then we have snow ones with & without Santa and holy etc just the same as the Brits.

For years our big department store used to have this huge Santa and he used to wink and beckon with his right index finger. When this store closed and become an appartment building the Santa moved to our Big Bookshop building and this year he has has a face lift and the PC brigade has decreed he shall no longer wink suggestively or beckon with his finger as this could also be misconstrued. This Santa is 49 years old so was around when my children and my grandchildren were little and have they suffered as a result of his winking and beckoning finger. Yeah right!!!

we aren't half a pack of sad b*st*rds.

That's quite a point you bring up there Perse. I keep hearing from time to time that yet another nursery rhyme is no longer acceptable because it has undertones (or overtones) of sex, incest, etc. What a load of poppycock!

These nursery rhymes have entertained kids for many generations and have never done anyone any harm. What I do wonder is do these people who find fault, just do this to get their name put forward? or have they just got so much dirt on their minds, that they see dirt in everything?

G'day Allan, Tecwyn, and to all who said Hello....:>))

Linda in Herriot Country.
Yes...i make little snowmans in the beer froth. Dosen't everyone!!!...lol Makes a great white snowy beard too...:>))

Diane. Speaking for the Aussie christmas cards.....yes we do get both. Normal Winter snow christmas ones, and summer Christmas cards also
Our Aussie cards might have a Santa on a sleigh being pulled along by 6 White Boomers ( Kangaroos )....or a picture of Santa down at the beach in shorts and thongs ( Flip Flops to Uk'ers.......lol ) with white Zinc cream on his nose to block out the suns rays.......or you might see a Santa standing at the Bar-bie. holding onto a slab of beer or an esky. Sometimes our Chrissy cards have Koala's on them dressed with a Santa hat sitting high in a gum tree covered in tinsel.........so yes we do have Aussie style Xmas cards, as do our N.Z neighbours.

Agree Persephone. The PC brigade are in full swing,( Mongrels ) and there was talk about at one stage, them trying to get the state of Victoria to rename our "Fairy Penquins" ( which attract thousands of tourists from all over the world ) ...by removing the word "Fairy" because it may offend the gay community!!!!.

Wot a load of Bull.....U'mmmmm excrement.

Tony....;>))

Persephone Report 17 Dec 2009 06:31

As Victor Meldrew would say "I don't believe it"

Change Fairy Penquin, and there is the Fairy Wren in Tasmania and we have Fairy Springs Park and a whole lot of places surrounding them with the same name.

Nymphs anyone.

We had our thunderstorm a couple of hours ago. Two growls from the God of Thunder, big plops of raindrops which didn't cover the ground - followed by hail - yes, HAIL! Tiny little beads of hail rained down sparsely, then the sun came out and chased it all away. The whole procedure over in about three minutes!

Hello all:-)

Sue..No, I didn't hear about the 14 year old starting a fire out near Ballarat. Grrrrr, makes me mad!!
Last summer, before the big Vic fires, I caught a couple of boys that had lit a fire in a wheelie bin directly underneath some really big gum trees, at the local pool. They took off while I was putting the fire out.:-((

My hubby had a lovely birthday, today. He really loved his pressies.
I organized all his favorite foods (Pizza), We also had a birthday cake including candles, he is now relaxing... watching a war DVD!!

Our cool change came through, with some good rain! sorry NSW. I thought the east coast was to get some rain tonight?
I hope everyone is safe from the fires up there??

I am just about ready for Christmas, I hope to go out on the weekend to the market for the fresh food. I always make a fresh fruit platter, lots of seafood, ham on the bone and off course the Christmas pudding and custard, YUMMY!!!!!

Good afternoon, may i have some of your Aussie heat please? It is perishing here. This morning was a nice warm 4 degrees, but by lunchtime it was down to two. It has been snowing all afternoon and the temperature is plummeting now. I just walked home and I was glad to get in.

I hope the weather isn't interfering with Diane's mega shopping trip.

I am glad that your husband had a nice birthday Carol, it is nice to spoil them for just one day in the year.

Do we need to come and dig you out Tec?

Persephone Report 17 Dec 2009 19:46

Morning everyone,
Just a brief pop in to say Hi.

The controversy here is about a billboard that was put up by an Anglican church in the city. It has Mary and Joseph between the sheets - Joseph is looking all forlorn and Mary has her eyes looking heaven (as if to say why me) and above the pic is the caption; "poor Joseph, God was a hard act to follow.

So you can imagine the outcry - we saw the billboard when we were coming home from the lawyers late yesterday - it had been defaced and we would've just missed seeing the person doing the defacing. The church has had threats and abuse hurled at them.

Church leaders said the point of the image was to get people thinking about the Christmas Story.

So on that note I bid you all adieu

Looking in on you Alison - just a few more days and then wow!!!

Love to everyone Persey.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 17 Dec 2009 19:57

I can imagine that there would be a bit of controversy about that one.

It is bad enough here with the Asda supermarket Christmas card, which shows a little boy with ginger hair sitting on Santa's knee. The caption says something like "Santa likes all children, even ginger ones".

Tecwyn Report 17 Dec 2009 20:29

Good Morning/Evening Everyone,

Linda, We have no snow - yet. Just a flurry this afternoon, but it is bitterly cold here too. Tonight it's - 4, and will rise to zero tomorrow. Went shopping today, but didn't get done what we intended. My legs went stiff with cold, and I noticed OH was becoming distant and vaque, sure sign of trouble, so we went back to the car and came home. Tonight the heating is on, and a fire roaring up the chimney.
I hope you enjoyed your dinner last night - are you sure all this dining out is altogether good for a girls figure?

Hi Perse - I am not overly religious, but I would find that bill board in extremely bad taste. I'm sure it would offend many of the Christian faith.
I agree the Christmas Story has been lost in a tidal wave of commercialism and revelry, and that there are people out there who have no idea of what Christmas is actually about, but surely church leaders don't have to stoop that low in order to bring the message home.

Diane, If you've been shopping all day in Liverpool, I should think you will need a blow torch to thaw you out.........

Good evening Tec.
I think that it is a bit late to count me as a girl and definitely too late for my figure!

We enjoyed the meal and the company, but we were rather squashed in like sardines, which spoilt it a bit.

It is so cold here tonight, the heating is turned right up, but my feet are still cold. The snow is coming in from the east, so maybe you won't get much.
