Sorry Sue,
They say laughter is the best medicine, If we ever meet Ill shout you a coffee!!! Maybe also a nice bottle of red:-))

Sorry I missed you too, Persey:-((
Merry Christmas to you and your family, thanks for making me smile when Ive been feeling low:-)) Best wishes for the new year in 2010 xxx

Hello to everyone, especially those that are going to have a white Christmas...How envious I am of you, I can only dream of one. Was it Bing Crosby who sang that? ( I'm dreaming of a white Christmas)???

Berona

Berona Report 19 Dec 2009 10:30

Yes, Carole, it was Bing Crosby. Bing's long gone, but his record still gets played every Christmas. I've heard a couple of other Christmas songs of his this week too. ...I liked the poem.

Had a photo sent to me from the south of England yesterday showing the neighbourhood covered in snow. Very picturesque - but that's how I like to see it - in a photo. I'm driving on Christmas Day and I wouldn't dare to drive on those roads! Also, my fire would be ON and I would be in front ot it, and you wouldn't get me to leave it!

Carolee Report 19 Dec 2009 10:52

Thanks Berona
I'd be sitting right along side you... in front of a nice warm log fire, I'd still like to see a white Christmas, though.

I thought it was Bing Crosby, I remember my dad would listen to it on Christmas day, he really loved Christmas time... He always made it so special. I miss him so very much at this time of year:-(((

Carole - I hope we can enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine together. I certainly plan to visit our lovely Berona in the New Year - if she doesn't mind that is:-)) Berona has offered to use her Welsh coffee mugs,

I miss my dad very much at this time of year, too.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 19 Dec 2009 12:02

Good morning Sue, Carol and Berona.

I have just ventured out and am relieved to have got back in on piece. We always go to the market on Saturday mornings to buy lots of fruit and whatever veg we don't grow. I had to go by myself this morning because we were waiting for a delivery. OH offered to go, but I wanted to buy a wreath for mum's grave so went myself.

The pavements are still absolutely treacherous. You can see the half melted snow has frozen into lumps of ice and then that is covered with fresh snow. The side road were I live is just one sheet of ice, although the main road has been gritted. The problem is that you can see the water and as soon as the evening comes it will just freeze again.

I needed lots of fruit as well, luckily I have my trusty trolley to put it all in. I have one of those old ladies trolleys on wheels, except mine is bright orange with white flowers on it instead of the usual tartan. It was full to the top and weighed a ton.

Just as I got back, I met OH coming out to find me. the delivery van had just been with the missing part of my son's present. at least I assume it is, I haven't checked it yet.

Carole,
Your poem about the fairy is so funny, and made us laugh. I should like to copy it if you don't mind. It is not much of a life is it, being stuck up on the tree for Christmas, with pine needles prodding unspeakable places, then packed away for the rest of the year......we should start a new movement --
The Justice for Fairies Society.......................

Linda - you were very brave to go tramping off to the market in those Arctic conditions - I had a mental image of Eskimo Nell trudging across the Tundra dragging a seal behind her, though it was of course your packhorse, the shopping trolley.
Bright orange! - with white flowers? no flashing lights?

It was not quite so bitterly cold here this afternoon, a sure sign that the snow forecast for tonight will arrive as promised. The sky was a very strange colour at sunset to the west, and lead grey to the north. The mountain tops are already covered in snow, and I could see the snow capped summit of Snowdon rising up above the cloud.

Diane - I hope you managed to get your decorations up with your grand daughters, and enjoying your break.

Alison, You are so much in our thoughts, just a few more days to go,
take care beautiful lady......we're still with you.

Hi to Berona, Janet, Sue, Allan, Pat, Tony if he's around, and anyone I missed.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 19 Dec 2009 17:22

Now that is an idea Tec, I should get some battery powered lights for my trolley. We used to carry all of the shopping, but we buy so much fruit that it was too heavy. My children turned up at Christmas two years ago with it. I must say that it is a godsend though.

It is absolutely freezing here. I forgot to post an important letter this morning,so OH ventured out late this afternoon. He said that all the melted snow was just ice now. There are always so many people turning up at casualty with broken bones when that happens.

I though Carol's poem was funny as well, I was just looking at my fairy earlier on. Mum threw away the fairy which had been on our tree all through my childhood, which was such a shame. I bought the current one in the early seventies, but she is not the same.

I keep wondering how Alison is doing as well, she is well on the way to finishing the treatment now thank goodness

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 19 Dec 2009 17:58

Linda - You must contact your children immediately requesting flashing lights for the trolley.
They in turn will contact each other...........

LindainHerriotCountry Report 19 Dec 2009 20:18

|I think that my son has flipped not me. he rang tonight to say that a parcel will be arriving in the next couple of days. He gave me my instructions for taking care of it, apparently it is a Kg of worms.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 19 Dec 2009 20:31

Obviously - your son also thinks you should take up fishing, Your other children will be bringing the rod, waders, keep net, large umbrella - bright orange with white flowers, flashing lghts, for when OH comes looking for you on the riverbank or lakeside at night.

I think you need to keep the worms in the fridge, along with the maggots.

Sue knows all about worms - she has a worm farm apparently.

Happy Fishing

Berona Report 19 Dec 2009 20:53

The poor worms! Stuck in a cold fridge. Are they for fishing? or are they for the garden?

Didn't get a lot of sleep last night. One early party next door for little boy's birthday, then another in the complex until after midnight - people walking past to go home, talking loudly - then even later, those arriving home from work parties, etc. The joys of living in a complex! Thankfully, it only comes once a year.

By the way - good evening/morning all!

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 19 Dec 2009 20:54

Good whatever to all:-))

Linda, OH has a worm farm - if you don't want the worms send them over here:-)) Although why anyone wouldn't want a kg of worms I can't imagine.

Our weather is so unsettled at the moment. We have a hot sticky day followed by a day or two of cool sticky weather, a little rain and then back to hot again.

I had a lovely couple of hours with the grandchildren yesterday (Sat). They wanted their favourite dvd on and so we sang songs and danced around all holding hands until poor old grandma collapsed with exhaustion. The children carried on dancing and laughing and falling in a heap. It was delightful to watch.

It is always a little awkward when their father comes to pick them up on the day my daughter works. I have little time for him as he caused so much heartache to his little family. He has a new girlfriend – one of a long line – and she is very nice and friendly but I see the same anxious look on her face and a constant need to please and placate him that my daughter had for most of their marriage. Not my problem but it’s such a shame.

We’re going out for a Christmas lunch today. It should be nice and relaxing with good food and company so I’m looking forward to it.

Berona Report 19 Dec 2009 21:04

Tec - looking back at the earlier posts, It does seem like we have a feast at Christmas. In a way, I suppose it is, with all the variety of food - but we don't all eat ALL of it - and whilst there is plenty of everything, it all seems to get eaten eventually with nothing wasted! It might take a couple of days to get through it all, but it's left there and daughter takes it with her when she packs to go to the caravan on Boxing Day.

I have to stick to my diet, so I can only have a little of whatever takes my fancy - and I do have to leave some things alone! That's difficult when I see the cheesecake, but I'm strong! (I think so, anyway).

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 19 Dec 2009 21:14

We also have what seems like a lot of food but as the afternoon is open house with family and friends dropping in at different times we certainly get through it all. Boxing Day is a good day for lounging around and eating left-overs if we're not too full from Christmas Day.

My mother stays overnight on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as I couldn't bear her to wake up in an empty house. We visit the Memorial Gardens on Boxing Day to visit my dad and my mother and father in law. This time of year is sad for anyone remembering family who are no longer with us and I feel for you Linda as I know it will be a difficult time.

I'm also sad that my lovely friend Jean is nearing the end of her journey. We met Jean last year and she is the type of person who makes a big impression on you in a very short time. She is very special to many people and will always have a place in my heart.

Good Morning Berona, and Sue,

Berona, Christmas is a time for good company, and good food,so why not? You've reminded me, lemon cheescake - I really do like that, so will get one. I do have a sweet tooth, but with OH being diabetic it's a litte difficult, and although she says she doesn't mind, I do feel rather awkward enjoying something scrumptious knowing she can't have any.

Sue, Sounds like you had great fun with the children. They are very lucky to have such a fun grandma who will play with them.

Hi All,

Have just popped on and have only read page 644, so don't know what's been happening, but I did see that Jean is nearing the end (hate that phrase) and I'm saddened for her and quite frankly, a little scared for myself. I hope she has a peaceful passing, what a fighter, time for her to rest.

I finished my treatment after the 6th one (thank you Linda for wondering how I am). The doctor agreed to "give me a break". Friday was the last and yesterday - yesterday - I did not vomit!!! Hooray for me! I've had to get Gatorade and all that stuff, because I am in danger of being hospitalised with dehydration again. Had some diarrhoea so no wonder, I'm empty (too much information?)

Hope you're all well. I haven't read anything since my last post, so if anyone posted a message of support, I thank you.

The only worms I have ever had, necessitated (sp) in me taking tablets.

EDIT Just read Carole's poem - it's brilliant!!!

Alison - I'm sorry if my post re Jean worried you. It was thoughtless of me to put it on here. You're young and still have a lot of fight in you. A fight that we will continue to join you in.

Hopefully you will feel strong enough to enjoy Christmas.
