I wonder if you will be charged for a plastic bag, if you buy a dress for instance?

We paid for our carrier bags when we where in Wales

I don't think I would buy a dress (not that I wear dresses, lol) if they didn't put it in a bag.

In M&S you pay for a carrier bag in the food department but not in the clothes department - which seems strange to me!

There's a charge for the majority of bags used in Wales. If I buy a dress then I have to pay for a bag the same as if I buy food from the supermarket.

If I pick up loose food such as vegetables or buy fish from the fishmonger counter then there's no charge for the small bag .

McDonald's is the strange one; no charge for the bag the chips come in but 5p for the brown bag a meal is put in.

Yes I paid in M&* for bag for food this week.
I think it has been a long time coming and about time now.We just need to remember to take our bags with us when out shopping.I have a huge plastic bag full of plastic bags hanging on the back of my kitchen door.I don't want or need any more.

I usually buy my bags anyway, i buy the decent quality bags for life, in which ever shop im in,

then forget to put them in car, so buy more, last week i put 12 in the boot, to reuse n save me 89p plus, every time i shop :-D

In Wales there's a whole list of exceptions to the bag charge and England is going to be even more complicated

I don't always know when I'm going to shop, I might go in a suprmarket for a loaf of bread, but come out with a weeks shopping, so I haven't always got a bag with me. M&S have been charging for a long while, when they first did it, I told them to keep the shopping and walked out, stroppy mare I am :-D

Can't imagine buying say an evening dress and the shop asking if you'd like a bag :-S

What I really find odd, is a local charity shop, they ask for used plastic bags, took some in the other week, and they said that they wouldn't be needing them anymore, as they are having their own bags printed, and will charge the customer if they want one !

In Asda the thin one use bags are going to be 5pence... now that is a rip off

Hmmmm the charges for bags in Wales are supposed to be sent to charities (monies generated are available online).

When we spent an arm and a leg on youngest's wedding dress we were then charged another arm for the zipper bag :-(

Lynda if I forget to put my small folding shopper in my handbag then I have learnt to do a terrific balancing act

A number of 'dress' shops now use paper carrier bags, which are much nicer and quite useful as little bins as they stand up on their own :-)

We have to pay for paper carriers too and they disintegrate when wet.

Well as a miserable wotsit who always refused to pay 5p for a bag, ADVERTISING the shop, the charge didn't bother me when it was introduced in Wales :-D

Did you have an email from Waitrose? It says that when the charge comes in, they won't be packing their deliveries in bags, unless specifically asked to.
Unpacking a bulk load of shopping is going to add time to the driver's round, isn't it?

Good thing we only use the local branch for bits and bob + a free coffee once a day ;-)

Asda deliver ours, we specifiy 'no bags' but THEY still use them for fresh meats, toiletries and other bits where smells could contaminate and these are free.

I did get an email from Waitrose Det, and thought exactly the same as you about the driver.

I love Waitrose, they do a lovely platter lunch at the one I shop in, so you can do a bit of shopping, stop and have a coffee, shop a bit more, then have lunch, so civilised :-D
