Supercrutch how could you possibly think you'd know more on a subject than some others !!!.....there are some people that know more than anyone else on every subject and there are it seems the fools of the world which I'm told I'm one of........oh well ignorance is bliss and I can at least walk into my local and not get attacked :)

I rarely rely on reinforcing my views using my education basics and further employment. Usually I am just taken at face value ;-)

That's because I don't have expertise in every subject on Earth unlike some.

I couldn't possibly perform cranial surgery nor navigate a tank. In fact I couldn't even tell you when each of the UK's registration districts changed without googling.

However, I do have a pretty good mental crapometer which I can interpret the readings from with a great deal of accuracy ;-)

As it is the doctors threaten to go on strike again. "Junior" doctors are often quite senior but not yet consultants. One of them is married to a close rellie and works all hours. He hates Jeremy Hunt with a passion but will not be striking this time. He feels that five days is just too long and will damage the patients more than Jeremy Hunt. He feels thaat there are other better ways to bring this particular piece of lying toadyism to account. Hunt is on record as wanting to see the NHS, all of it, privatised.

The NHS has been promised an extra £ 8bn by 2020. However right here and now it has to cut three times that from their budget. Torynomics.

Lets be honest though this is going off topic from the start of this thread, the NHS as it stands can not carry on being free to all either you'll have to pay directly for some services or you'll pay more in taxes or you have to ensure only those that are entitled to use the service for free do so.......

Caroline is quite right. The current business model of the NHS is hopelessly bust and not fixable. However quite large bits are not free - prescription charges can be quite pricy, my optician charges the earth, so does the dentist.

The current Tory strategy seems to be that of salami slicing of the service, denying access to modern kit such as new drugs and radiotherapy machines and creating long waiting lists. At the same time they are trying to hold down staff costs by paying rubbish wages to people from other EU countries and annoying junior doctors. My neice SRN has gone to OZ and won''t come back who can blame her. This system will please no one in the end.

Far better to bite the bullet and bring in an insurance based system with a core service free to the unemployed, kids etc and the rest put into bands. Both employees and empployers would have to pay a lot more than they do right now This is what the rest of the developed world does.

You can have a free health service or a cheap health service.
You cannot have both at the same time.

The SRN and RN - are synonymous, only the ENs have any problems getting work.
She passed her nursing degree with a 1st and quite rapidly got promoted.
She is now on the Australian register.
