Havnt voters in every country been dissapointed with every outcome of who got voted in,,,,,the losers just have to suck it up and except it.

Its been under BO that the steel industry in US has gone down the pan...........like any buisness man the best deal will always be sought.......thats why Asda and the like dont have British suppliers.


I wonder how hes going to run both buisnesses. but hes a buisness man first.always has been and will be.

I know, same as the Shard in London and many more is built in imported steel..would anyone pay £5 when the same can be bought for £2.


......Supermarkets etc use China et for many products ,,,,better deals....their foods stuffs are done in places other than here,,,,,,,I know of one struggling company whos a supplierr to Asda with an English based work force who had to go to the lowest line to get a deal so they could keep some workers in work...........its no different in other areas.

The problem is that paying £2 instead of £5 means that so many other factors have to be taken into account.

Who pays for shipping - hopefully unlikely to be the destination country.

The cost of paying out dole and benefits to those thrown out of work by a decision to buy outside the home zone.

The cost of paying out dole and benefits to those employed in the associated satellite industries.

The lost revenue to those whose income drops when thousands of people have little spending power and their own staff numbers have to be reduced, adding to the dole and benefits bill, eg holiday firms, electrical industries, car manufacturers and umpteen luxury goods dealers.

The loss of the ability to train future engineers and technicians in our home country because India, China and the like will not offer that training to us. The adverse effects of such a decision reverberates down the line to our children, grandchildren and so on. Our position on the world stage is then likely to go into reverse.

And yet, people have voiced concerns over the latest decision by an overseas car manufacturer to build two new models in its UK plant. (Madness to my mind. People should be grateful that an overseas car maker is training engineers etc rather than upping sticks and putting more out of work.)

It must be a huge concern to government, parents and grandparents.

Of course you also have to look on the positive side...whilst "his" party are basically totally in control they don't like him so they will try to rein him in as much as they did BO......many also quote the finger on the button..well there's his and a general or whatever...whereas in somewhere like north Korea.....I'll sleep happier with the USA situation than the other.

I did put the *same*,,,do you pay £10 for Lurpak in the local family run shop or go to Desco where its only £ for the same..........and DT doesnt do trade he pays people to get do it for him,,,,,,,at the best deal...........
anyone in their right mind dont pay over the odds for the same.cheaper.

The UK buys industrial steel from China.Poland and elswhere for construction......wheres the difference...........

Side note......last night the Canadian Immigration and citizenship website crashed...due to too many people using it.......hmmm....Amoaners trying to leave....

and the of of US buys imported steel at an alarming rate so not just Trump uses it.......the country allows it to be imported ,Trump isnt a single importe. :-D

The US its self hasnt suported its own industry.

In addition to the factors to take into consideration that I listed previously, is the prospect of us eventually being charged double, triple and even quadruple for imports that our own nation has lost the ability and the equipment used to make our own or to compete on any kind of footing at all.

In other words they have the monopoly and our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and descendants pay dearly for it.

So I would pay more for things such as steel and ships etc produced in this country if we retained the ability to produce ourselves in order not to be held over a barrel. In the long run it would be worth it.

It's short-sighted to believe that cheap prices now mean cheap prices forever.

I do not believe that any of the US electorate can be accused of being stupid.

The voters who opted to support Trump did so because the status quo would never improve their life chances and they were not prepared for another four years of the 'same old'.

Who can blame anyone for wanting to try and change their personal circumstances for the better? Doesn't make them stupid just desperate to improve their lives and those of their children.

It's a very strange system where the candidate with the most votes loses.

Trump did hit a chord with millions of largely ill-educated men and their women who lived in the once-wealthy industrial regions of the US .....

...... the men left school at 16 or so before graduating and started immediately earning good money making cars, steel, or in mining. The jobs were all unionized, and wages and benefits just kept getting better and better. If the company didn't agree to demands, they just went out on strike ....... without ever realizing that no-one wins in a strike. The new wage might be a bit higher or the benefits a bit better, but you never make up for what was lost while on strike for weeks or months.

No need to get even High School graduation, let alone a college degree, when you could do that.

The women have about the same level of education, largely because so many of them got pregnant and married at the age of 15 or 16 to a man who was bringing home very good money..

Then the industrialists realised how much cheaper cars, steel, etc were being made by the Japanese, Chinese, etc, and also picked up on the fact that these countries were largely non-unionized.

Not surprisingly, willing lookers found willing offers ........ those other countries were only too delighted to build cars or car parts for US manufacturers, or to supply steel.

So factories, mines, etc closed, the men were out of work, no money coming in so businesses, stores, etc closed in all the towns (large and small), and women who worked also lost their jobs.

Welfare is not really found in the US, at least not as much as you get in the UK, so people have been suffering for many years.

Trump offered them hope ............... he'll MAKE industrialists re-open factories, mines etc in all those areas, he'll MAKE them stop buying steel or car parts from other countries.

TBH ................. I don't know how he will do that! Many other millionaires and billionaires have nothing to do with him. If stories are to be believed, they do business with him once and never again.


Yes, a lot more people voted for him than had admitted it, but the majority do seem to be those who are towards the bottom of the totem pole ......... finding it hard to find work, homes, or to enjoy the "good life" (whatever that might be!).


I also have a feeling that misogyny played a large role, not only with the group of largely uneducated who are often very red-necked, but also amongst others ...............

There are a lot who still do not believe that Obama was born in the US, and who believe that they should not have had him as a president ............ keep them where they belong. That attitude is often behind a lot of the shootings that occur in the US ..... blacks are not to be trusted, they're all drug addicts or traffickers, the women are all prostitutes, and they all need to be kept in their place.


I have been horrified and disgusted by what some people I once counted as friends have posted on FB, regarding their reasons in favour of Trump and his policies, and their vile comments about Clinton. Friends no more!


There really was no choice ...... neither was a popular candidate, and I really do fear for the US and the rest of the world.


He does only have 2 years of control of both the House and the Senate, even though he has much fence making to do with the Representatives there .........

..... there is an election in 2018 for the other half of both places. It may well be (fingers crossed) that by that time people will be disenchanted with the way things have gone, and will elect more Democrats. Then there will be greater difficulty for him.

I've seen a photo on line of Trump, his wife, son and his wife all voting.

They are next to each other, the cardboard sides providing privacy for the voter are less than shoulder high ................ and both Trump and son are peering over into their wives' booths.

The comment underneath wondered if the men were checking how the wives voted.


I was surprised at how low those sides were .................. we have the same 3-sided "box", but the walls are above head height, and no-one can see how you are voting except by standing right at your shoulder!



BTW ........... the vote is on the low side overall, but much higher in some states.
