Hi Berona,
Hope you are feeling better still today, and that the legs are getting into gear with what you want them to do.

Hi Linda, I suppose you are fit for anything now after your little break.

Sue, What an unpleasant thing to call you - why did I giggle?
I do have a warped sense of humour - you should know that.

Hello Carole and Allan as well, sorry I missed you out while I was trying to catch up'

I was only away over night Tec, so fit for anything is pushing it a!

Berona

Berona Report 16 Jan 2010 21:54

I'm a bit confused, so good morning/evening to those I have missed - all of you!

Sue - I have noticed that in most of these situations I've heard about - the man who 'decided' to leave always seems to have someone out there, waiting to welcome him! He must have been up to mischief for a while before he made his announcement!

Linda - good to know you enjoyed your OH's birthday trip.

It was a good Thread as far as it went...and it went too far!

It did, however, spawn a much more lighthearted Thread which is still on the Boards

Good evening Linda.

I hope that the weather behaved Linda.

Good Morning Allan,

Hope you are as fit as a flea this morning

Pat, Sorry - just re read your post. You must take into account my advanced years - I am easily confused these days - it's the effort of having to keep up with all you bright young damsels on here - Allan not included

Linda, I do hope my delicate condition did not spoil your break. Had I have met my demise, it would have been in the Announcements column of the Times Newspaper - keep watching - just in case.

Good evening Tec

Please don't tell me that you are one of those people who read the obituaries each day before making a decision as to whether to get up or not?

If your name's not there, you will get up

If it is there, then there is nothing to get up for!

It was raining this morning so we didn't go to Beamish. We never intended to really because we have been lot's of times over the years. It is a lovely place to go, but being a huge outdoor site, you need a dry day. We went to the National Glass centre at Sunderland instead. One advantage is that being a national museum it is free to get into.

I have been before but OH hasn't. It has a large gallery which explains the history of glass making and has lot's of exhibits, but sadly that was closed for refurbishment. There is a second gallery with lotsof hands on things to entertain children. as there was no one else there, we had a good play. They do demonstrations of glass blowing with a commentary, it lasted for thirty minutes,so was very good. It was a bit weird because they were making a vase, which had some colour in it, bit they were rolling the molten glass in some white ash and incorporating that into the actual vase. It was the first time they had done it and they were having a trial go to see how it would work out. It was a commission from the local pet cemetery and the ashes were pet remains! if it worked, the cemetery was going to offer it as a service for the grieving owners.

Lot's of the resident glass blowers sell in the gallery, the things are beautiful, but incredibly expensive. They were selling off some nice red glass stars which they had made fo rChristmas, so I bought a few of them

You're right Allan, I always read the obituaries before I bother getting up - I'm curious to see what they say about me when I'm gone.

Linda the National Glass Centre sounds good and very interesting, there is a glass blowing centre not far away from me , I have passed it hundreds of times meaning to visit - must remember next time. During the summer it's always packed with tourists.

Tec,

Both my Great grandfather and my Great Great grandfather worked in the glass industry but in St Helens, and only as labourers. They both appear as lodgers in one of the Censuses and the occupations given were mould preparer and mould washer.

Allan, That's interesting - I wonder if it was Pilkingtons the well known glass manufacturer of St. Helens - I believe they have been there a very long time.

I should like to go to the Waterford Glass workshops in Ireland, we have a few pieces of Waterford Crystal that OH keeps in a glass cabinet

Allan Report 16 Jan 2010 22:54

Tec,

We have a few pieces of Bohemia Crystal, which is far lower down the scale than Waterford, but we also have a part set of Stuart Crystal port glasses that were a gift to my parents for their 25th Wedding Anniversary.

In our move to Australia, and then to Leonora, the only thing to be broken was one of those glasses, so now we only have 5
