Nature Strip: I rather like that. Some property owners who love gardening have little gardens on their berms and plants growing up the lampposts. So they really do have little Nature Strips.

I am off too, but to my bed. OH is still watching the boring football highlights on TV, not that he thinks they are boring of course.

'Bye Berona

Tec, Fremantle prison closed in 1991 and even then there was no running water or toilets in the cells and the cells themselves had been vastly overcrowded. It's a grim place, but historically extremely interesting.

Thanks for reminding me Berona - I couldn't do the washing with the digger on the back lawn - he has finished - so better get that done.
I stopped the digger for a couple of minutes he had unearthed a bottle - which was all in tact.

Edit: oops pressed submit instead of enter - Have a good day Berona and Sue who went awhile back.

Hi Diane if you pop in later and talk to you later Carole.
Best wishes for you as well Alison.... go from strength to strength my love.

I can recommend Port Arthur to you Allan if you ever get over to Tassie. I went to Richmond Jail as well while I was there and visited a womens' prison as well. They did a program on Port Arthur on TV and no one died there as a result of being badly treated - in fact some prisoners lived to quite an old age. They were better fed than their wardens. They buried those that did die on the island out from there - instead of on the hill behind the prison - thus there was no seepage from the cemetery to their water supplies which in some places is the cause of illness. Makes you wonder why so many cemeteries are on a hill.

Persey,

We did Port Arthur, not long after the massacre. I don't know what was more atmospheric: The Ruins or the Cafe area

We were there long after the massacre, my husband asked afterwards if he could go to the memorial garden, but I declined I just couldn't face it.

When we were in Adelaide he had to go to where the Snowtown murders took place - and so we are parked outside the place which has gone and replaced by units - the owner arrived home and I said to himself, I really do not like this one bit parked out here. We also went to another property that was mentioned in one of the books and it looks the same.
He reads alot of true crime - think he must've read everything on Peter Falconio. I have a true crime book that I used to have in my glove box entitled "Women who Kill"
