Good evening/morning all

Janet, if you look in, next time you are in Fremantle pop into the Pine shop at the back of the Sail and Anchor. It opens out onto the car park at the rear.

They do some nice pieces of furniture (they also have some c**p pieces too)

When we were there a couple of weeks ago there was a very ornate pine bookcase reduced from $3600 to $1900. We fell in love with it and very nearly purchased it.

It was a good job we didn't as when we got home we realised that it would have been too big for where we wanted to put it!

It would also have clashed with the rest of the furniture!

Carole, congratulations to your daughter. I bet that she is really proud of her achievement.

Hello to Sue, Pat, Linda, Berona, Persey and Tec

Hi Allan - we nearly did that with a hall table. Fell in love with it and came so close to buying it but OH thought it wouldn't fit in the only place in the hallway it could go. He dashed home and measured the space and sure enough it was too big. We were disappointed but glad we didn't just buy it.

Linda - thanks for that. I'll have a look at that site although there may be a store here that has the same.

Hi Tec - glad it's a little warmer although 7 degs sure sounds cold to me.

Berm - this is a grassey piece of land between the footpath and the kerb. It is council owned but the majority of property owners mow theirs when they mow their front lawns. Not every property has one. In our street we have berms on both sides of the street and each area between driveways has a council planted tree as well.

Good Evening Linda,
We sent a box of 24 Kilner jars to the charity shop before Christmas, they were complete with their lids and everything, but came from my mother's, and we would never get to use them.

How is the wormery coming on? Oh and before I forget again, thanks for the tip re Lakeland oven cleaner. My daughter often goes to their shop in Shrewsbury so I will get her to fetch me some. The stuff I use from the supermarket is awful, and I have to put the oven on after cleaning for about 30 mins to get rid of the fumes.

How spooky, we have just been out in the garage looking at the wormery Tec OH finished making the frame for it last week, but the worms didn't seem to be doing anything. When we looked this afternoon, they were much more active and trying to climb out They were wiggling away nicely now, presumably because it is warmer.

Peresy,

Thanks for that explanation. We just call everything in front of the property line the verge even though most people have their lawns extending over it.

And I thought that a berm was for sitting on LOL :0))

Good Morning Allan,

It's one of the mysteries of life, that furniture always looks bigger when you get it home than it did in the shop.

What a shame about the Kilner jars, Sue or I would l have made good use of them Of course the postage would have been prohibitive

Linda I don't know if I mentioned it but OH finds the little darlings like it if you put their food through a food processor/blender. OH has a small cheap blender that is just used for his worm food. Of course he gets teased about pampering his worms but they sure are healthy. They are definately more active in the warm weather. Google "worm farms" to get loads of info. Our local council has a course on worm farming every now and then as does a nearby garden centre. By the way - I've sent you a pm.

We call it the verge as well Allan, thanks for explaining it Perse.

My OH is the one that can't judge measurements - he will say that won't fit and I will say yes it will and vice versa. Just a knack I guess - the only thing I ever topped at high school was geometry, I absolutely loved it. My testimonial when I left school states that I only worked hard at what I liked.

You were all talking about glassware etc yesterday I think. I have a set of tumbler type glasses that my mother brought back from New Caledonia in 1945. They are clear with an embossed pattern around the top to 1/3rd way down and they have ridged type rings around them at the base but the thing that fascinates me about them is they have a seam up them. I have not seen any like them anywhere and I wondered how they were made. My OH is scared stiff I will break one - as I used them from time to time.

Susan Boyle got badly treated here by one of our TV presenters and the debate went on for several days and there was a complaint laid with the Television Authorities. His remarks (which I won't repeat) were totally uncalled for and his co-presenter tried to get him to shut up.

Tec,

I think thatit is an illusion because when you see the furniture in the showrooms, the rooms are so large that the piece seems small in comparison, then when you bring it home to a smaller area the true size becomes apparent

OH is not getting near my food processor Sue.

Tec, no way could you ever be described as pathetic, you are just a typical male lol.

I have replied Sue, it is a nuisance that I don't get the message symbol lit up on this computer

Tecwyn Report 17 Jan 2010 22:08

Allan,
I think your theory about things looking smaller in proportion to the showroom is right.
I was lucky some time ago - OH wanted a glass display cabinet, but we dislike the usual 1930s type - anyway I found an Edwardian mahogany display cabinet at auction, very nice, but rather large. I bid for it, and got it.
We discovered that it fitted almost exactly in an alcove beside the chimney brest - another inch, and we would have nowhere to put it really - whew!

Linda - OH bought his own blender. No way would he be allowed to put scraps through my food processor:-))

Much as I love chatting I really need to start my day. Love to you all.
