Sue was it Betty's in York which you went to? that is the famous one, they have the original branch in Harrogate and also have one in Northallerton. The waitresses all wear black dresses with white aprons. the food is nice, but ridiculously over priced.

Hi Linda. The first couple of visits to the UK we were told often that we must visit Castle Howard. We were told so often that we developed what we still call "Castle Howard Syndrome". When we visited the UK last year we decided that we would bite the bullet and go as my mum wanted to see the gardens. We found out quickly why it's so popular - it really is a beautiful place to visit. My brother wasn't overly impressed but the next day we went to Eden Camp where we had a wonderful day. He's a WW1 and 2 buff so he really enjoyed it as did my husband. We were quite impressed too and we found out that my father missed out on a campaign medal so we were able to find out where we could apply for one. We were also able to identify badges that we'd seen in photos but had no idea of the regiments the ancestors belonged to.

Allan, I am sure that there is nothing "mere" about either you or Tec.

i don't seek to denegrate the male sex and I am sure that you both have the same sort of equal partnerships that OH and I have....
Just ask him and I am sure he will say that...

Sue, I have been to Eden camp a couple of times as well, they keep adding to it. If you want a good similar visit on your next trip, The Elvington air museum near York is very good

www.yorkshireairmuseum.co.uk

They even have a NAAFI" canteen, although I must say that the food tasted like it was left over from the war

Linda, my OH and myself do have an equal partnership...it's just that one is more equal than the other!

Your talk of Castle Howard brough back memories of when I worked for a few months at Scarborough back in 1974 (I'm sure that you are all too young to remember that year).

I was supposed to have accommodation with the job but that fell through so I had to travel from Bollington in Cheshire where we lived, over to Scarborough early on Monday mornings and then back Friday nights!

Once through Leeds and onto the A64 I really enjoyed the journey. But after three months the constant travelling got to me and I quit. MY OH and I had been married for four years but fortunately, at that stage, we didn't have any children!

Linda yes it was Betty's in York and it was overpriced but really nice - we were on holidays after all:)) We went to the airfield in Duffield as my brother loves aircraft and spent a great day there. We also went to Driffield one day because some ancestors were born there and in the park is a memorial that mentions Australian airmen.

I'm very fair to my OH - he will also be happy to tell you that:))

That's something else that I may have to rethink!

Today was fun - The local farmer occassionally brings a huge flock of sheep past my house. He always comes round the neighbourhood closing everyones gates on driveway, front gardens etc.
He did this as usual today, but in between him doing that and the sheep arriving, the postman arrived. Without me noticing, he left my gate open.
Consequently we ended up with about 30 stupid sheep in my front garden.
Mayhem ensued as I tried to get them out.
While this was happening - my OH was standing in the bay window laughing hysterically at me getting more and more irate - luckily the farmer and his sheepdog arrived to rescue me.........great fun

Allan - your blonde jokes don't affect me. I am (was) a brunette. These days I am 'a lighter shade of grey'. I like the sound of that, don't you? Sounds more sophisticated than just 'grey', even though 'silver' might be a bit closer.

Good Morning Berona,,,

AWW Thank you - pleased to know I've made someones day.

Life can be so cruel sometimes Berona,
My invitation to dinner is genuine - and I would love it.

But just when you get an invitation to a date.....
The guy lives 12,000 miles away - how cruel is that

Lifes a bitch sometimes
But when that lottery comes up...........we're on

Tec, perhpas you should havelured a couple of sheep into your shed.... a nice feed of lamb for the next few weeks.

Berona, I've been trying to convince my OH to stop dyeing her hair and just let the whiter shade of pale take over; or else to give it a blue rinse!

Actually, my daughter sends me quite a few blonde jokes...and she is a blonde. The problem with them is, most are unprintable. Heaven knows where she gets her sense of humour from!

Good morning Berona. If you and Tec ever have dinner together let me be the salt shaker - I can well imagine the interesting conversation you too would have. I love your sheep story, Tec:)) I'll be giggling about that all day - the vision of it makes me laugh.

I can hear a kookaburra laughing in the bush behind us - he must think it's funny too. I've noticed over the last few days the impatient noise baby birds make when they're hungry. I think Spring is on it's way. The local garden centre was empty on Monday when I stopped by. They'd done a brisk trade on Sunday.

Allan pray your wife doesn't see your post. She'd kill you I'm sure. I would be happy to let my hair go gray if it was all gray. It's half and half and I can't be doing with that:))
