RolloTheRed Report 30 Aug 2016 20:09

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/aug/30/five-teenage-boys-arrested-after-man-dies-following-attack-in-essex

My OH has been traveling regularly to the UK since the 1980s for work, tourism and lately helping me look after aged parent. In all of that time she has never suffered any kind of insult even though her "look" is very French and her fluent English very accented.

Since brexit nearly every day of the week she suffers verbal insults some of them extremely crude. We have been thrown out of a favorite pub, not for doing anything untoward at all, but because groups of people were getting "shirty" and didn't like us being there. Her car has been vandelised and daubed with insults. We get none of these problems in north and central London the hassles are on the south coast in UKIP land..

The police seem to be too busy to take any useful action.

If this sort of thing goes on and gets worse the brexiters can hardly expect much of a deal from Brussels. Imagine how the redtops would report such behaviour towards resident Brits in Germany, France and so on. Well the rest of the EU has a popular press too and the current nonsense is widely reported and going down like a lead brick.

Whatever deal (if any) is eventually struck any EU member can veto it.
The UK is not currently a WTO member ( a big surprise for Liam Fox and David Davis). Any current WTO member can veto a UK application. Argentina for instance could demand a deal re the Falklands, Spain re Gib, Poland a deal for its people in the UK ...

T May does not have a very good relationship with the police despite years as Home Secretary. Now when she needs them the most .....

Brexit means rack and ruin.

:-( :-( :-(

That is appalling Rollo. My sympathies to you and especially to your OH.

Disgusting behaviour - the louts/criminals wouldn't like it if they were targeted the same way in, say, Yorkshire or any other county with a strong identity.

maggiewinchester Report 31 Aug 2016 18:06

You're assuming the perpetrators of the murder were local Essex thugs, inspired by Brexit, as, apparently you seem to believe, are any racial problems since the Referendum.
It's not necessarily the case.

Caroline

Caroline Report 31 Aug 2016 18:41

You are saying your OH has been targeted due to her accent by Brexit voters......firstly if she has been targeted in any way that's wrong obviously...but I'd have to question why she's targeted. There must be hundreds of people with accents in your area are they all targeted the same way ? Is she voicing views that may not fall into common held values; not that this would justify the targeting? It seems strange to say the least if she's just going around her day to day business and yet is being attacked in this manner.

supercrutch Report 31 Aug 2016 19:57

I really don't believe that 15 year olds have the capacity to equate problems that may be brought into being by Brexit (which I voted for) and their own murderous behaviour.

As for not commenting... you changed the content to personal experience not the vile murder of an innocent chap.

Presumably the police are dealing with your wife's endless harassment so nothing I comment on that serves any purpose.

careful the rr might hit this subject next as there's some cross reference there !!

On the vileness of Brexit

1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
2 Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
4 Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.

5 For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
6 Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.

7 Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
8 Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
9 What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?
10 With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.
11 Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
12 Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
13 That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?

14 What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15 Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
16 How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?
17 I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
19 Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.

20 The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
21 A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
23 He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
25 For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
26 He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
27 Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.
28 And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
29 He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

31 Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
32 It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
33 He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
34 For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.

I see you have deleted your post Rollo accusing people of not caring because only 2 people replied.

If you had kept to the subject of the appalling murder it may have given people the opportunity of replying.

Also if I wanted I sermon I would go to church, unlikely as an atheist :-P

" see you have deleted your post Rollo accusing people of not caring because only 2 people replied.

I did not delete it. As Sharon will tell you the RR has moved on from RRs and is now deleting posts altogether from which maybe we can infer RR is a member of staff somewheer insaide the Beano organisation. Given general cultural attitudes in Dundee ( not shared by my rellie a recently retired lecturer from the Uni ) no surprise there then.

Anyway getting back to yr beef yes, I did post that a good while after my post there ha been a stunning silence on the boards which usually rush to comment on , say, the life and times of media not-all-that-celebrities withing seconds of the BBC saying the same thing. Yes, I did infer that there is a great deal of hypocracy especially from people who see no shame in describing themselves as brexiters. "Leave" at least had some dignity.

I have had a good measure of support by PM so "fear" is spreading its chilling tentacles.

There have already been several deaths as a consequence of the hatred whipped up by Farage, Gove and their merry men. It is only a matter of luck and timing which seperate these from an ever increasing tide of petty violence, abuse and criminal destruction such as tyre slashing, keying, window breaking etc etc. According to the police the increase in such incidents is nearly 50% since Jun24. Thousands more are unreported. For the post part the police do nothing.

I don't care if you want a sermon or not Job 15 is bang on the button.

I have to endure bizarre nonsense from the moron T May and her acolytes every day of the week. It will all end in blood and tears. She uis whipping up a whirlwind which will destroy her and her party - which does not bother me any - but will also bring ruin and hate to our country which I do care about. Even worse in the preverse way in which British politics works the post coalition Tories have generated a magnetic opposite in the form of Jez Corbyn so that for those who believe in law and democracy the door is jammed shut for most.

Happily we will move back to France :-) which has it s problems and evil politicians too but at least the disadvantaged are not blamed for them.

Sharron

Sharron Report 1 Sep 2016 12:11

Sharon was not involved in your post in any way. She very rarely posts at all.

I, on the other hand, often put a thread on the board.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 1 Sep 2016 12:20

Didn't see your original thread, Rollo. I'm sorry your OH had been subjected to abuse, according to police reports it has become more common since the Brexit vote.

Pathetic behaviour to pick on a woman.

Caroline

Caroline Report 1 Sep 2016 12:22

Oh Rollo change the record please......there's always been hatred Brexit didn't start that; France and many countries have hatred too and if not the disadvantaged then the blame goes to religious groups or something...no country is perfect by a long mile.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 1 Sep 2016 12:30

Statistics show that Brexit has increased it, Caroline. Let's hope it settles down And Rollo's OH can go about her business without being subjected to abuse.
