Feeling a bit......well, you know. A few years ago, I got into the poetry writing thing - seem to be only able to write about our family property, which I loved and didn't want to leave, as did my Dad and my sister. The poems all run along the same line, which appears to have become prophetic! I've never been happy with the last 4 lines of this one though - seems clumsy.

LONGING FOR HOME

I grew up on a property
"Kilbirnie" is the name
A place of seven thousand acres
Like a picture in a frame
I love that family property
It's engraved in the heart
Every country person feels it
We're lost if we're apart
It's hard to explain
The connection we feel
Our land is our heart
Not a real estate deal
So when I pass on
No longer around
Scatter my ashes
On "Kilbirnie" ground
I long to go home
To where I belong
And I will be happy
To have righted this wrong.

I've made my husband promise me that he will take my ashes back to the family place and bury them there. Not giving up - just anxious this afternoon!

Thanks for the crossing of body parts, Perse - don't get a cramp!

Thanks for the good wishes Diane and Colin. Wouldn't it just be so wonderful if the doctor told me it's a benign mass?? I'd just love that.

The only thing that will get cramp will be my style - it's got a permanent pleat in it.

Best wishes

That is a lovely poem Alison. I too have everything crossed for you.

I hope that your sting is feeling better Norma. I too have a bad reaction to stings, they swell up and the pain spreads down the nerves in my arm,or wherever the sting was. We have plants called nettles here, which I know you don't have in Oz. They are weeds which are found everywhere. The leaves are covered in tiny stinging hairs, which when you brush against them, leave tiny white fluid filled blisters on your skin called nettle rash. When I brush against them, I look like I have leprosy.

Berona

Berona Report 12 Nov 2009 09:26

Yes, we do have stinging nettles here, Linda. Thankfully, I have never been stung by any and I don't think I have ever seen them - but they do exist!

I suppose everyone is waiting to hear from Alison, like I am. I have been thinking of her all day and can't help thinking what a fantastic personality she has. I hope our silly chatter helps her in some way - even if it just takes us all into fantasyland for a while.

I suppose we all must be "away with the fairies" to post on here

Having a silly laugh on here, certainly helped me when Mum was so ill,so I hope that anyone who has worries of whatever sort, can escape for even a short time into our fantasy world.

I thought that you didn't have nettles in Oz because someone who lives in Sydney told me you didn't. They are everywhere here, on any waste land, they climb through other plants,so that they reach the sun, I have even seen them sticking out of the top of tall hedges. On open ground, they are shorter, growing between knee and waist height.

They are difficult to avoid if you are in the country side, or unkempt churchyards, as I found to my cost whilst searching for headstones for someone in Sydney. Unfortunately, it was summer,so I was wearing a skirt and was bare legged. The back of the churchyard had not been trimmed,so I was wading through waist high grass infested by nettles. I was badly stung by the time I finished and as I have such a bad reaction to the things, the blisters lasted for ages. The things I do for you Aussies.

It's cancer, but highly unusual for breast cancer to go down into the stomach apparently - no, I don't feel special. I have to see a radiation oncologist next week to see if it can be "radiated". Depending on what he says, I shall at some stage be going back on chemo. Sigh. I did ask him in a hopeful tone "It's not a hairball is it?" Alas, no. So we're still up in the air really. Have to have more scans next week. Why don't I have normal cancers? mutter mutter mutter

You may uncross your bits now!!

See ya

LindainHerriotCountry Report 12 Nov 2009 09:56

Bits duly uncrossed.

It all seems to be taking so long to sort out. I suppose once you can start on the treatment, you are in the system and have your daily goals. In the meantime, you just seem to be in limbo which must be really awful for you.

I am not a demonstrative person normally, but am sending lots and lots of cyber hugs in your direction

Alison

Alison Report 12 Nov 2009 10:00

Thanks Linda,

I think they're just not sure what to do with me?

Thanks for the hugs. I'm going to get myself ready for bed. Chat to you later.

Bye bye!

Berona Report 12 Nov 2009 10:34

Alison - I am somewhat relieved to know that they are still looking for ways to treat you, rather than to tell you there is nothing more they can do.
Keep up that wonderful spirit of yours. While there's life, there is always hope and new and better ways are being found every day.
That's a lovely poem, sounds like it comes from the heart. Don't change it.

Linda - the nettles here are not that wild, but do exist. Our big nuisance is bindii in the grass. This can be anywhere including well-kept domestic lawns - and not good for those who like to walk around barefoot!

Berona

Berona Report 12 Nov 2009 10:48

No Barbra, haven't heard of that one. I'm not a great drinker of beer - except on a very hot day. Haven't had any beer for a couple of years - I usually opt for wine, if anything, these days. That's what old age does to you!

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 12 Nov 2009 12:02

As I didn't know what bindii is, I googled it.
Unfortunately I didn't read it carefully, so googled bindi with just one letter i

That turns out to be the small coloured jewels Hindu women wear on their forehead. I thought that you were all very odd having those in your grass, then I discovered my mistake.

Barbra I sent Tec my assorted ramblings on bread makers, so I have sent them to you in case they are of any help.
