Hello Allan, I am confused because if it is the middle of the day here, I thought that it would be the middle of your night.

I have to go out soon as it is one of my afternoons in the tourist office. Hopefully it will be fairly quiet,so that I can get some admin done

I have heard of nettle beer, but I haven't had any. It reminds me of Dandelion and Burdock pop for some reason. Probably because rubbing dock leaves on nettle rash was supposed to soothe it, that never worked for me though

Ah early doors for you then, I can't cope with all these time zones, i have enough trouble working out what time it is here.

The answer to that is later than it should be, as I still need to get changed. One must keep the standards up, so jeans and a fleece top won't really do for work.

Alison,
I love your poem, it says so much, and is beautiful, as are you. I hope they can get you onto effective treatment quickly. Our little gang are with you all the way, and I hope it helps in some small way to know that.
Love and big hugs from me and my wife.................

A loaf is born..............

I am so proud, I've created my very first loaf of bread - all on my own,

Well, not strictly true, because I had the help and guidance of Linda, the Kitchen Goddess - thank you Linda.

Feel so ashamed eating it - so excited (doesn't take much) I wanted to have it stuffed and mounted in a glass case.

One small step for mankind................

Congratulations.
what type was it and how do you rate it on the loaf scale of 1 - 10

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 12 Nov 2009 20:22

Thank you Linda,

Plain basic white. I followed your recipe, without the oatmeal or seeds.
The recipe in the booklet that came with machine asked for dried milk, that I didn't have.
Did need to add little extra flour, and I did get the vegetable oil.
Loaf turned out a little "stiffer" than I would ideally like, but for a first time I was very pleased with result.
Tasted like real bread,
Scale of 1-10, I would say 8, which is good for a first attempt,

Try some of the recipes from your own book, because all the machines are slightly different. I am glad that you had a success the first time,as that will inspire you to try lots of others.

I am not sure that using that recipe minus the other things would adapt to a basic white.

So if you have been busy baking, i take it that you haven't started on the dining room yet?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 12 Nov 2009 20:34

Shusssssssh,

Not been mentioned today,

Maybe I'll get away with it,

I'll make myself terribly busy tomorrow - doing other things,

This old dog's been around a long time you know

Was the duchess impressed by your bread?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 12 Nov 2009 20:43

Yes she was actually, having been very sceptical about the whole thing - thought it was another mad-cap idea of mine.

Being diabetic she only eats very low carb' wholemeal bread, small slices, so might learn to do that eventually.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 12 Nov 2009 20:49

She should be impressed with you.
Wholemeal is just thesame as white to make, it just takes longer because the programme you use heats the ingredients up slowly before it mixes them

How do you get low carb bread? Surely all bread is made with carbs ie. flour. Cutting down the sugar to just the one and a half or two teaspoons would help.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 12 Nov 2009 20:54

I googled it and there are come low carb bread machine recipes on here

http://www.low-carb.org.uk/gabis.htm

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 12 Nov 2009 20:59

When you buy a small wholemeal sliced loaf, the carbs per slice vary from make to make - the lowest we've found being 9.7 per slice - highest being 17.2
So would have to experiment trying to keep carbs to minimum - this wouldn't be very scientific of course, as no way of knowing what final result would actually be.
Just aim for something that works, and is acceptable.

Good Morning Allan,

Thanks for congrats,

How amazing, the rain storm I mean. That it should all drop on one small area, and dry where you are - sounds like you are having a few storms - is this normal?

Will wander over to check out other site - if I'm not back in five minutes, come looking, you never know who's lurking over there

Tec, even by WA standards the weather is a little unusual.

Really heavy rain about an hour ago, although I should add that we are still down on the usual rainfall figures.

I have no doubt that in a couple of week's time we shall be experiencing, and complaining about, high temps and how dry it is!
