I once met an elderly Aborigine gentleman - a really interesting man, he lived and worked as a gardener for an actress outside Melbourne,

Tec - we don't see much of them in the cities, but they live in the country areas - many of them respectable, hard working and educated. However, they are not forced to go to school, so we have many of them semi-educated and lazy. We also have areas in the Northern Territory, where many an anglo-aussie would 'prefer not to go'. Even their shops have prices for the locals and prices (double) for visitors. The visitors are not welcome.

Tec, The Aborigines are a truly amazing group.

It is a great shame that the arrival of the First Fleet, and subsequent arrivals, had such an adverse affect on them.

But I suppose that that is the story of European Colonization generally!

That's interesting Berona,
I listened to a very interesting discussion on BBC World Service from the Opera House.
An Aborigine lady lawyer was talking about Aborigine rights, and grievances, in modern day Australia.
It seems there are still many issues to besettled.

Overcast here to-day. Last night, we did get the 'storm' which the weather man promised. Heavy thunder rolled around the sky for about half an hour, then some lightning - and THEN! a shower of heavy drops for a whole four minutes! After that- no more thunder, lightning or rain. To-day is overcast and very still.

To our shame Allan it happened all over the world,
British Colonisation and Imperialism was not our finest hour,

Hopefully lessons have been learned - sometimes I wonder.

Tec - It's unfortunate that they have a bad name for being lazy and expecting the government to supply them with everything, because the educated ones don't expect this and can achieve anything if they have an education behind them. Most Australians judge them on their merits.

when I first arrived in West Oz I worked with some full blood Aborigines who were working in the Indigenous health field; they were truly delightful people to work with and taught me so much.

I suppose the situation will solve itself as more and more Aborigine people achieve through education, therefore future generations will accept this as normal, and hopefully they will all become integrated into society as time passes - if that's what they want.
