They are real heroes the fire fighters, some of our guys went over to join them last year. Thank goodness you and your friends/neighbours are safe Gail and your slippers are all in one piece.

I am also glad of the Helicopter Rescue service - which helped Mrs Tec, they do an amazing job along with the Paramedics. The other ones that definitely deserve mention here are our Surf Life Savers. They are out there at Piha - (and other beaches) which is notorious for its rips - and they will stay on the beach after they have told everyone to go home - because there is so often some nincompoop still deciding that they know best flummoxing around in the water.

Carole who falls asleep in the movies: Owls after they eat the mice and then they regurgitate the tail and claws etc into a little ball and spit it out. I was at Owlcatraz here in NZ and our little morepork did it and the guide handed me this little ball of piffle which it had spat out. It was really not something I wanted to hold - but I was very polite and said thank you.
Chap in Britain has a Barnie Owl which rides a skateboard.

cheers - and I'll even bring some Speights Beer to the barbie - Allan - now that's a South Island beer. In Greymouth they have Monteiths (beer) ice cream - it is very nice.

bye for now

That was nice to see you come on here and let us know how you are, Gail - we have all been wondering what was happening. It was good that there was no unexpected change in the weather and the cool change is a Godsend.

I agree with you about the firefighters. They are real heroes!

Hi all:-))

Alison - hope you are well and keeping cool.

Linda, hurry back - we're missing you.

Well, we went off to see Ray Martin at his book signing. He was late but when he turned up he apologised to everyone and thanked them for waiting. It was a long queue so we went for a walk hoping for the queue to lessen. An hour later daughter's partner rings to say that there was only a handful of people left. We went back and was introduced to him. What a warm and pleasant man. When introduced he gives a firm handshake and looks you in the eye. He repeats your name and remembers it. We chatted for a little while and he signed two books for me as I bought one for myself and one for my son in Hobart. He then signed my daughter's book. He wrote a lovely personal message in each of our books. He then chatted to the twins and 3 y.o. grandson, who is such a character, insisted on showing him his new Wiggles underpants that his mum had just bought him. He had Ray in stitches. He then thanked us for coming to see him, shook our hands again and wished us a Merry Christmas. I've heard it said he's a lovely man and it's true. He was even happy to speak to people who didn't buy his book and was also happy to have his picture taken. And ladies - he's very good looking:-)) Was I star-struck? I sure was:-))

Gail - I'm so happy you and your family are fine. We were all concerned for you. Still the devastation in the area must be heartbreaking. Best wishes to you. The fire-fighters are heros. My son has helped with bushfire fighting while in the army. It wasn't easy although he wasn't on the front-line.

Hello All !

Hope you are all keeping cool or warm whatever the weather :)...Has been warmer here today.

Cannot believe we are nearing the end of the school year. I have my exams next week and the boys have theirs this week. I have applied to further my study into 2010 which will be longer and more days. All good as I like to keep the brain busy. Not sure if I will be able to continue to work it depends on what the study days are so will have to wait and see about that one. Hopefully I will be able to as I would miss some of my dear ladies that I visit and chat too.

Tomorrow I am having the computer looked at as its not running properly so I would say that i will be without the internet for awhile.

Hope Mrs Tec is feeling better...gentle hugs for her ((()))

Hope all is well with everyone...(((((hugs for those who need them)))))

Hello Janet - and good bye Janet. That was quick! What are you studying? Whatever it is - all the best for your exams. The boys too.

What a catastrophe - being without the computer for a few days! However, you will be busy with exams, so it won't be so bad. I'm sure I could cope without the computer. Things would be different - but I'd cope (for a while).
I have become accustomed to my morning salutations on here and checking to see if there is a spat going on somewhere else - Life just wouldn't be the same!

Is Alison off having treatment? Haven't heard from her. Hope all is OK.

Diane - haven't heard from you either. Hope you will be back with us soon.

Linda - maybe London was too good to leave! Come back to us soon.

Sue - Now that you're not only a celebrity yourself, but you mix with celebrities, will you still talk to us? Let's know what you think of the book. I like to get books recommended - I've had a bad run on them lately - not being what I had hoped they would be. Ray's promises to be interesting with all the people he has interviewed.

Good morning/evening all.

Janet, nice to hear from you. Good luck with your exams and good luck to the boys too. You've worked hard so I'm sure it'll pay off.

Berona, I never let fame go to my head:-) I will let you know when I read it what I think of it. I've had a quick flick through and it looks so interesting. It won't be for awhile because I've got 4 books to get through first:-))

The weather here is cool and overcast but after the heat of the last few weeks I'm not complaining.

Good Morning/Evening Everyone,

Hi Sue, Sounds like you had a great time yesterday at the book signing, and pleased to see it hasn't gone to your head :))

Well, life has returned to normal - the Duchess has been released on parole for good behaviour. That's put paid to her gadding about the country in helicopters.

Thank you everyone for your good wishes -much appreciated.

Hello, Tec. I hope you are well rested and not too stressed. I also hope the Duchess is settling back home and is feeling better. What a worry for you.

Are you still getting the wild weather up your way?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 23 Nov 2009 21:25

Duchess is fine Sue, I'm very tired from driving, but won't do much for a day or two (fingers crossed)

The weather wasn't too bad today, sunshine and showers, very windy, but another storm forecast for tonight and tomorrow.
They are suffering terribly in Cumbria, many folk have lost everything in the floods, and lots of bridges have collapsed causing further chaos.

Hello to all, there are getting to be too many to mention by name but a Mentioned in Dispatches must go to both gail and Tec.

Welcome back, Janet and I wish you all the best for your exams.

This may also be my last time on for some time. The modem started playing up yesterday and I am now back on a dial-up connection, and I had forgotten how slow that is

I will try to sort the modem out as soon as possible

Get if fixed soon, young Allan. We couldn't be doing with you not being around:-)

How's this for a "blast from the past". I'm watching Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys singing a Beach Boys' song. Brings back memories of my youth:-))

Good Morning Allen,
Thanks for the Mention in Dispatches.......

Sorry your modem is playing up - kick it!

I had trouble getting on here tonight, kept getting a blank white page.
The only way to get on was to google "Friends Reunited" then click on the Genes logo - it worked,

Hows the hole?

Tecwyn Report 23 Nov 2009 21:38

Sue, What is Brian Wilson doing in your house?

I met all the Beach Boys in 1963 - gosh, I think I'm also a blast from the past as well.

Tec, we've christened it "the hole of the garden" it seems appropriate somehow especially when we came to back-fill it.

If the worst comes to the worst I'll buy a new modem but will not have a clue regarding the settings. Fortunately my ISP has a 24 hr help line

SueMaid Report 23 Nov 2009 21:45

No no no Tec - he is on my telly:-)) A friend and I saw the Beach Boys at a small concert in 1970. They were wonderful. We spoke to them all during a break and they were very funny - as entertaining off the stage as on it. One of them kissed my hand and sang a few notes from "Wouldn't It Be Nice" to me and I nearly swooned.
