Hello to Berona, Sue and Persephone

and a BIG HELLO to Alison, and a warm welcome back. You couldn't throw a bit of the morphine my way could you?? No pain but I just wanted to see if it is true what they say about it :0))

Seriously, Alison, I'm pleased that you are feeling a bit better, as Persey says blow any diet and eat what you want when you want.

Sue it seems that old things such as maps and sketches are all the rage at the moment.

As you may be aware I have an old sketch book which may have belonged to my elusive grandfather Clifford.

It contains six early (Mid 1800's) sketches of the Toronto area, including one of Fort Henry, now a major attraction.

Following advice from JaneyCanuk I finally sent some manageable images to the curator of the Fort and he is in raptures. Apparently the flag pole in the sketch confirms that a signalling system, which was thought to have been used, but couldn't be proved, was in use. Historians in Toronto are besides themselves

Oh, Alison - we have been concerned for you. Hopefully you'll feel a bit better now and your appetite gets stronger. Persey said it for all of us - we are thinking of you and are with you all the way with whatever you have to face.

We put together a lovely luncheon as a thank you to a lot of people who quietly help us in the background. They are a lovely group of people and it was lovely to see them enjoy their meal and socialise with each other. We also had a wonderful group of people helping out in the kitchen and setting tables. Hard work but as always we had fun working together.

Allan - Janey can be very pedantic at times but she is very knowledgable. This must be very exciting for you and may help in some way to find out more about him.

The old maps I mentioned are on a web-site that also contains old etchings of churches and the docklands in London. As some of OH's family hail from Rotherhithe and Bermondsey they have been invaluable.

Sue,

I've seen some of Janey's Threads but on the TTF Board with my G/F she has been a treasure.

As a thank you I also sent the images to her, as well as a cut and paste of the first major reply from the curator. The images were sent to her private email but the curator's response is on my Trying to find Clifford Mortimer Thread

I'm sure Janey is invaluable as a researcher - she is obviously a very clever lady and would keep at something until she cracked it.

Certainly a lady of firm principles!!

However whilst I may not agree with some of her views, nevertheless she received a lot of personal abuse on one of her recent threads.

Debate no longer seems to be practised on the Threads, if, indeed, it ever was: just go for the person not the topic!

Allan I've had a couple of "healthy debates" with the lady but we've also had some good chats. Yes I agree - at times it's the person not the topic that gets the abuse. I have to be honest and say at one time I was right in there with arguments on the boards. Then I realised that I didn't recognise myself when I read what I had written. I got caught up with the moment and I knew it wasn't really me. I will speak up when I'm not happy with something but I won't enter meaningless arguments.

Evening Allan and Sue,

Sometimes when we put word to paper we don't always convey the correct message, it's the nuances and subtleties and the glint/smile in your voice that is not read (heard) by the recipient. I used to converse with another office worker at another branch by phone - and everything was cheerful etc and when you met him the same, but when he put anything in an e-mail it would be come all officious. Many a time I have read an e-mail from him and gone arrgghh!!## etc. Ring him back and everything is coming up roses.

I remain yours

*~~¤ Þeŗ§eþhðŋě ¤~~* - you are right about the written word compared to the spoken word. We miss all the body language too and that is an important part of conversation. By the way - I copied and pasted your name. Clever aren't you:-))

Persephone Report 25 Nov 2009 09:51

Hi Ŝǖέ

Isn't that luv verly (your copying) - can't put two v's together cause they come out as a vv.

Allan would probably come back with two vs or not two vs that is the question and the answer is a doubleyou. I see where he has been quoting from Alice in Wonderland this morning - what's he on?
The caterpillar used to smoke a hookah-pipe in Alice.

Sorry I am drinking a glass or two of red before I go to bed.

I had a very nice day today - met Huiainapohutakawatree (well she was not in the tree but that is her board name at the moment), she is a very nice lady and am glad I met her and now have a face to a name.

I drew a nice little house up here in the text box and when I submitted it - looked like a tornado had been through it - So that one is still WIP.

Cheers

Firm principles - I don't think I have anything left that is firm anymore.
Maybe my ankles - they still look okay - not sure how long before the rest of me joins them.

Hello Alison,
So pleased to see you posting - was wondering where you were - didn't know you'd been "captured" but hope you are still feeling better after the blood count boost, and that you've managed to eat something you really fancy. Hope also that the morphine helps to ease things when you feel the need to use it.
Sending positive thoughts and lots of love to you :))

Hello Perse,
Hope you're in sparkling form today!

The lady wife is ok thanks, a little quiet, but never does make much noise.
I have my nurses outfit on, black stockings, mini-skirt, natty little hat!
and am keeping a close watch in case she gets any more ideas about a helicopter ride.

I feel an urge to do something wildy exciting, but can't think what!
any ideas welcome and will be considered - the wilder - the better.

Hello everyone:-))

Persey I'm glad you had a nice day with Huia. She seems very nice. How is her OH? Last I heard he wasn't well.

We're getting a new lounge suite today so OH and son have just taken the old one out with much cursing. The only problem with a new set of furniture is that it makes the rest look shabby. I may have to go shopping again:-)))

Looks like rain today. It isn't hot but it's very humid.

Oooh Tec - that sounds like a very fetching outfit. You must look a treat:-)) Glad the Duchess is feeling better. I hope you too are feeling more rested. Well you must be if you're looking for some wild adventure. I'm such a sedate person that I can't for the life of me think of anything that would suit your adventurous nature:-)

Good evening everyone.

Tec will you please tell the duchess that on no account is she to scare me like that again while I am away.

Alison, I am sorry that you had to have a spell in hospital, I hate having a cannula in my hand. I hope that you can have a more settled spell now.

Diane, it is very good news that you are going to have a whole weeks holiday, you work far too hard and thoroughly deserve it.

Good evening Sue and Perse and anyone else who is here.

I would like to thank everyone who sent me such lovely messages.

Apologies if I get anything wrong, or forget anyone. I have just had a really quick skip through the thousands of pages I missed (well it seems like that anyway)

Linda I am sooooo happy to see you back on here:-)) Did you have a nice time in London? I've only been there once and I thought it was such an exciting city. Such a contrast between the old and the new.

Berona Report 25 Nov 2009 21:16

Good evening/morning everyone! Yes, Sue, very humid here too, although no mention of rain. Very cloudy, which hopefully will keep the temp down, but if the sun comes out, the temp could soar.

Tec - may I suggest that if you can't think of something wild to do - take a jog around the garden or down the street, for ten minutes. It won't give you any excitement, but will act like a cold shower - it'll change your mind!
