Just popping in for a moment. Alison - apart from pain relief, do you have any after-effects from the morphine?

I had a shot of morphine many many years ago, and it made my bedroom look bigger than a football field! OH stood at the foot of the bed and he seemed to be half a mile away... In later years, he was given morphine and he was constantly holding his hand up, trying to measure distance with it.
Do you get anything like this?

I have been on a morphine pump a couple of times and I was more normal than normal. My mother on the other hand started having double-vision - and accused both my father and myself of giving her two tablets instead of one. But it is the best thing out for slamming the pain into oblivion.

I suppose the strength and dosage have a lot to do with why it's given to us. I didn't have any pain. I was having a miscarriage and haemorrage at the time, so I have no idea why it was given to me. Come to think of it - maybe I would have had pain without it - who knows?

My OH had a brain tumor and the morphine was a god-send. I only saw him in a fit of pain once. That was when they started administering it. He would have had agonising pain without it, but instead, did a lot of sleeping and eventually went peacefully.

It probably relaxes you as well so you are not fighting the healing process. One of mine was when I had one of my blood transfusions so stuff was going in everywhere. I had had an ectopic pregnancy and prior to the operation - they ran tests etc did not know what was wrong - took all night - I was dehydrated so had to have the drip before operation - they put drip in then wanted me to take a shower and drip and me and the shower curtain all got tangled up - I was laughing which was probably a good thing because prior to finding out what it was - I was quite prepared to curl up and die. Doesn't feature in my list of best things I have done.

You're probably right Perse. Mine was administered after the doc rang for the ambulance to take me off for a D & C. I do remember wanting to go to sleep in the ambulance, but I had lost a lot of blood and have always believed that was what made me sleepy. That was a long time ago - they no doubt have different methods these days.

Whoa!

Good evening, Berona, Alison and Persephone.

The thread seems to have drifted on to *gives a cough* Women's troubles so I will explore the other Threads whilst you all engage in the intimate and gorey details. *Shudders*

Allan :0))

Sorry Allan with you being a maid and not a nurse I don't expect you to have discussions on this level.

So I will tell you a funny story - well I though it was funny:

The Kiwi – one of our endangered species are monitored and we as honourable citizens are obliged to report any sightings of dead kiwis and any hurt ones go to the bird rescue. A few weeks ago a couple saw a dead kiwi lying on the road so they took him home and popped him in the freezer and called the conservation people. Mr. Conservation arrived – dead bird came out of freezer – he said to them “are you winding me up?” No why? The so – called dead kiwi was a very life like stuffed toy.

Persey,

A case of freeze a jolly good fellow?

I just thought how embarassing - sort of glad it wasn't me... they usually have a little tag saying made in Albuquerque or some such on them.

It's amazing how much of our touristy stuff is made elsewhere. When I was in Japan I went to buy a scarf and it was made in Germany.

Actually Perse, someone did that locally with a rubber modelof a Cane Toad: it caused havoc until someone actually picked it up and realised what it was

Lanal ( no!! not anal before you quip!)

Allan

Allan Report 26 Nov 2009 08:39

And I should explain that modelof is a Ukrainian word meaning a substitute

Well since you asked nicely - we had a lovely lunch with our youngest today. She works hard earns good money but her husband who is doing his doctrate in "earthquakes" is beginning to worry me. He has come so far he is a real swot in that he only is happy with an A and now he is getting stressed and talking about chucking it all in. She is very supportive and I sometimes think he doesn't realise how much he has achieved. We are all proud of him and sing his praises and he sings our daughter's - they only give out a handful of scholarship funds and he was one of the recipients - it isn't a fortune but still it's loads better than just getting a highly commended. We will all be together over Christmas and his mother will be over from UK so hopefully once through that things will look brighter for him.
I think he really needs to get it all into

Perspective.

It originated from the Estonian word Repplika

Allan

Allan Report 26 Nov 2009 08:56

Persey,

Suitably chastised re the lunch; I do apologise.

Please try to explain to your SIL that just to gain a Doctorate is an immense achievement. He doesn't have to put himself under additional pressure to be the best!

Sooner or later that will catch up with him and be so much harder to bare if he thinks that he is not achieving at the highest level at some stage in his career.

Normality is normal...my apologies, another banal statement from me!

Persephone Report 26 Nov 2009 09:07

I thought myself and OH would come and see you and Tec - what do you call yourselves now

'a couple of quids'

you'll be quids in if you do. I have saved up two half-crowns so that should get us both in with some change left over to buy a choc-bomb each.

We used to when I was young go to live theatre at His Majestys (it was pulled down quite some time ago) and they used to have these eskimo pie type ice creams but they were longer and narrower and came in a carton and you pushed the tab at the bottom. I used to get in such a mess - and have chocolate down my best bib and tucker - you didn't wear casual in those days to go to town that would never do.

You ever had them?

Perse and her recollections of days gone by.

Allan

Allan Report 26 Nov 2009 09:14

Perse,

Perhaps a couple of squids??

I don't recall those ice-creams at the local cinema: our's came in a tub and had a wooden "spoon" to scoop it out.

Much like certain pathological containers where similar spoons are used to scoop it in :0))...what a load of cr*p
