Fiona / Ruby (now that is confusing). It's set a bit earlier than the 1850s and is Fiction, but the classic is "For The Term Of His Natural Life" by Marcus Clarke, first published in 1874. |

Fiona or is it Ruby: I did a quick Google search with nothing particularly helpful, but it might be worth looking at the Uni of Tasmania website as the uni has a special interest in preserving "Taswegian" literature. |
