Alison,

You've just blown my tiny mind with what you've just told me - it is late at night here, so brain can't take it in.........
I shall have another look in the morning, and try to digest
All sounds very complicated to me..

Allan,

I was going to write this before but Tec made me get sidetracked. I was in WA a bit over 20 years ago. I didn't think it was 20 years behind. Aren't I being nice? Can't speak for it now though, although by the end of my short stay I thought I was going to have to punch someone. People kept saying, "Oh you're from the Eastern States" in very condescedning voices. I felt like saying that no, I wasn't from the Eastern States, I was only from one of them, NSW. In fact I did end up telling a few people that I was only from one of them and they looked a bit confused. Maybe you are right about the 20 years behind thing after all.

Tec

Many businesses in WA have dealings with countries in Asia within the same Tme-Zone and have long argued that it makes more sense to be in line with them than with the rest of Australia

No Luck at all Allan :-((

Allan Report 14 Aug 2009 00:08

Alison,

We came to WA from the UK in 1982 and even then we would wander round the shops in Pert looking for items readily available in the UK...none to be had!

But given that the population of the entire State at that time was only 1.5 million and the distances from anywhere so great, it was probably no wonder!

Even now it is cheaper to fly to Asia than to NSW...and with a few night's accommodation thrown in!

Nothing to add to the conversation but just wanted to say how nice it is to see everyone chatting like old friends, no offence given or taken and lots of light-hearted banter. Great isn't it?

Aww! Susan with numbers: on another thread (mysteriously wooshed) I did offer to put the winner of a competition up, but did say that I would have to find a larger carbody for us all to sleep in!

It's ok for the Eastern Staters, who are rolling in money, but over here in the West it is a different story.

Hello, all.

Hope you are all well and looking forward to the coming weekend.

Thank you, Berona, for your instructions on the 12th on how to do cut & paste. I will try it this weekend when all is quiet here.
Welcome back, Tecwyn, from your trip to the "big smoke". It is always good to come home and back into your own space.
A few new faces have appeared on the site recently; welcome, and look forward to hearing from you. Think I will have to change my posting name now with the number of Sue/Susans etc around. the boards. Will have to see how one goes about it It was a popular name in Australia in the 1950s so I'm assuming we were all born around that time.
Off today to meet some in-laws for coffee and a chat. Don't get to see them very often. MY OH works long hours and travel overseas a fair bit, so it is left to me to keep in touch with them. We always have a good time when we get together but thesedays everyone always seems busy with their own day to day family matters that we neglect the rest of the family.

Have a good day everyone,

Susan (no numbers, or squiggly bits, just plain Susan...for the time being...!!)

Carolee Report 14 Aug 2009 04:19

Hello, Aussies/Pommies

Hi, just plain Susan. My name is also plain, Ive noticed there are a few of us on the boards. When I chose to use my real name on the boards, it wouldn't allow me to use just Carole, so I added the extra e on the end and that's how I got Carolee.

Ive just come back from a nice drive to Ballarat, which is about 2 hours drive from Melbourne. Its a lovely old country town with lots of history, and also beautiful old buildings, including quite a few old churches.

Welcome to the new people posting :-)

Its a beaut sunny day here today!!
Have a great day all:)))

Us EasternStaters rolling in money??? Ho ho ho ho, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

Allan, you don't have to say that about us. I've already said that I would go halves with Tec in the luxury cruiser that we have all booked on - just as soon as we both win the big one!

I must remember to start buying tickets!

Still fighting this cold but feeling better thanks for the pm's.
