Hello Pat, goodbye Sue, have a good day.
We want to keep the heating on Tec as the house is furnished and we don't want it to get damp. I am sure it will be fine, what can possibly go wrong?????????????

Snoozing is a good pass time at this time of year Pat. I can't wait for it to get dark so I can close all the curtains and make it cosy.

I just lost my internet for five minutes, it must be freezing up.
It is late here and the heating has switched off for the night.so I had better go and snuggle under the duvet (dooner?) before I get any colder.
Have a good day Berona, see you in the morning/evening
Goodnight Pat

Good afternoon all

Sorry I missed you all this morning especially Alison, Are you going to be home for Christmas? I'm glad you liked the poem that I put up, I knew it would give you a giggle, I could'na resist posting it!!!

Ive just returned from taking my daughter to a Horse Riding Competition, she won 3 ribbons, a 1st for best dressed overall...she looked gorgeous in her blazer and tie, a 3rd in overall riding in intermediate, and a 2nd for best position. It was a good day overall, I took a couple of photo's but because I was facing into the sun, I couldn't see the picture properly so was taking the photo's blind!!! They turned out well anyway:-))

I'm off to enjoy some sunshine:-))

Hi Carole. That was great for your daughter - proud for Mum too, I suppose! I'll bet getting those awards was as good as getting a Christmas present for her. Tell her congratulations.

Cooler day to-day. The mercury really is mercurial! The sun is trying to come out now that it's nearly time for it to be going down! Our longest day either tomorrow or Tuesday. There seems to be some argument about it. i know our shortest day is 21st June, so I suppose the Poms will be having their shortest day when we have our longest!

Hi Berona
Thank-you:-))
Yes, I was very proud of her...she is growing into a fine young lady:-))

I didn't make it out into the garden this arvo, got stuck doing the ir..ing instead.
Like Allan, I always do that job on Sunday...I just forgot that I hadn't done it!!!

Its been beautiful here, today. Not too hot !!!

Congratulations to your daughter Carole, it is lovely to see them doing so well.

We had even more snow overnight, it looks lovely outside, but very cold.

I have had a terrible cold for the last three days, I have a sore throat and my nose could rival Rudolph. I am boosting the profits of the tissue manufacturers. I could do without this now, but in the great scheme of things it is only a cold and hopefully won't last too long.

I was planning to clean the house today ahead of the family arriving. I don't feel like it, but it has to be done. If it was just my children, I wouldn't bother too much, but I can't have my daughters fiancée finding a single speck of dirt. what sort of mother in law would he think that he was getting?

Only joking, he is very nice and I cleaned his house from top to bottom when I was there to help them out. Still I am the sort of person who likes things to be clean for visitors (but friendly and homely at the same time), so enough procrastinating and off I go.

Just popped in quick, as I'm supposed to be cleaning the bathroom.

We have snow this morning - winter wonderland - very pretty.

Congratulations to your daughter Carole, well done, or as they would say in Welsh -
Da Iawn - Bendigedig.......Well done - Fantastic.
As my grand daughter also does well in riding competition I know how much this will mean to her - you must be a very proud mum.

Must go or I will be sacked - where's that maid with the hairy legs?

Tec

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Dec 2009 17:41

I should think that the maid is currently asleep Tec.

We have just returned after taking the holly wreath to mum's grave. I had to plodge through really deep snow to get to it.

As I suspected my brother hadn't been to the house, it was very cold in there, so I set the heating to be on for far longer. It is a combi boiler and as there is a minuscule leak from one of the joints on the bathroom radiator, I have to add more water to the system from time to time. It usually fills quickly, but today it was extremely slow, which has me worried that the in pipe might be frozen.

Normally i would call in for a coffee with my brother while I was up there, but I was so annoyed with him, that we just came straight home. I rang him to say that I had been, but he didn't answer. He then rang back a few minutes later to say, what an amazing coincidence, he had just been walking out of the door to go round when I had rung. I don't know if you believe him, but I don't! Pity it was Friday teatime when I first asked him to go, Sunday afternoon is a tad late in my book.

The roads are dreadful round here, just packed ice until you get onto the major trunk road. Even then the outside lane of the dual carriageway wasn't very clear,so I am glad to be back. The car thermometer was saying that it was minus seven and that was at 5pm, so I dread to think what it will be during the night.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 20 Dec 2009 18:23

Yes - I suppose the maid would have been asleep - you just can't get the staff these days, and if you do, they expect wages and other perks.

You had better keep an eye on the pipe you mention, especially when the thaw starts. We also have the combi system. Whenever I need to top that up, it takes seconds. One blessing with that system is that there will be no water storage tanks to worry about.

I do understand you being "disappointed" with your brother, but have to say, experience has taught me not to rely on siblings for anything really.
When my mother was alive I was frequently disgusted by their callous indifference to her plight. Only one sister really cared. It was a different story when waiting for their inheritance, and gave me a hard time as executor because of the delay...........oh well.

Good morning/evening to you all.

I'm just watching the news and we're amazed at the dreadful weather in the USA, UK and Europe. Mother Nature is certainly showing who is boss. I guess there'll be many people unable to reach their families for Christmas because of the snow and ice. Here we face hot weather and bush-fires - and a postal strike:-(

I won't be on for long this morning as I have an empty house for the morning and I need to get some floors washed. Much easier when I'm the only one home.

Tecwyn Report 20 Dec 2009 20:54

Good Morning Sue,
You are so right - Mother Nature is in charge - it is hard to understand "global warming" on this side of the world at the moment, though I know it's a different story where you are. We had snow today, even on the beach, only the third time this has happened in the 15 years we've lived here. This strip of coast rarely sees snow.
You may have seen that five Eurostar trains were trapped in the Channel Tunnel for fifteen hours yesterday. The trains broke down in the tunnel due to variations in temperatures. I didn't understand that really.
I can see further chaos as the week progresses as people try to travel home for Christmas.

Tec

SueMaid Report 20 Dec 2009 21:12

Hello, Tec. Yes we have seen on the news about the trains breaking down in the tunnel. I couldn't bear to be trapped there - I think I'd be a gibbering wreck before long. I feel bad for anyone not able to get home for Christmas. I'm annoyed that the parcels sent to my son and grandson will probably not get to them on time it would be much worse if we had plans to travel and couldn't make it.

I can't believe how cold it is. OH was "talking" to his brother who lives in northe-east England and we were amazed when he told us that is was -5 degs. and snowing. The weather here is very unsettled - very warm one day and cool and wet the next. We shouldn't complain but I am concerned about the large number of bush-fires around the country. Fire is so destructive and life-threatening.
