Berona,
In all my years at sea, I was only sea sick three times. On each occassion the stabilisers were in operation.
Once during a typhoon in the South China Sea the ship very nearly turned over - lots of damage and broken bones - that event was featured on Aussie tv news apparently. Not nice, and yes I was scared

Talk to you later Allan. We are in for a hot one too. Yesterday was very nice - seemed like it was about to rain all day - but it didn't! I've already soaked my pots.

Berona Report 20 Dec 2009 22:55

Are you still there, Sue? Sounds like you are organised. I've been told not to bring anything, but I might do some pastizies (ready-made to cook, of course) and I have all that in my freezer. All I need now is a fresh lettuce and maybe a few more salad vegies - not so much for Christmas, but for the days following. Might give the car a run out past the Fruit Market - and will probably come home loaded!
Must go now. See you all later. Keep warm Poms - keep cool Aussies.

Diane.
Where have you disappeared to?
I do hope you're not stuck up on top of that Ferris Wheel, a bit draughty up there in these ice age conditions. Anyway hope you got done everything you wanted during your break from work.
Take care, and keep warm.............

Goodnight everyone

PMSL Tec, no I didn't ventire onto the wheel the queue was too long and it was too cold to hang around.

Hi to all of you

Sorry I haven't been around for 2dys but had no internet connection, and before you say ( what time do you call this ) posting at this time, it has took me 1half hrs to read all the post since the last time I posted and wanted to come on while I had a connection.

Carole, I loved your Fairy Poem.
I didn't end up doing the deccy's with the grand-daughter's as I wanted to get the place cleaned up first, and as I had to go back to town it wasn't done when they came. My son and I did the cleaning today and for some reason I decided to wash all the wall's down in the living room as well as the cleaning and it took us about 8hrs to do it all.
I hope to get the deccy's up later today lol.
Well as it is now 5-30am I best go and get some sleep or nothing will get done.

Hope to catch you all soon if the internet behave's

Bye for now all

I don't know how you do that Diane.
I am just dipping in as I have things to do. I went to bed at 8pm last night because I felt so yukky. OH wanted me to stay in bed today, I must look worse than I feel, but I can't. I have some bits and pieces to do this morning. I will have to go to the Tourist Office this afternoon because there are only two of us in, the third person who would be there is away. It is a full sized shop in the market square,so you can't just have one person in running it. Apart from the tourist info, we sell lots of souvenirs and at this time of year we have a large display of charity Christmas cards. We are still selling loads because having posted their cards, people are now realising that they need more to give to their neighbours.

By the way Tec, a nice box of worms arrived this morning. I have opened them up and they seem fine.

Tecwyn Report 21 Dec 2009 17:53

Diane you've obviously gone over to Aussie time - but that's no good because it's dark here when the sun shines there. Hope you don't turn up for work in the middle of the night - they'll be thinking you've gone strange.

Linda.........Hope you are feeling better today - very brave to do your stint at the Tourist Centre. Ours closes at the end of September until March. The council tried to withdraw financial support last year, which meant it would have closed for good, but there was uproar from local people involved in the tourist trade. The centre is very busy in the season.

So pleased to hear that the worms arrived safely. Your son sounds like an interesting kind of guy. Highly imaginative, with a quirky sense of humour.
Must be, to get his dad a box of worms for Christmas. I love it.

Brrr it is so cold here, even though the heating is on full.
My daughter was supposed to be driving up tonight, but thankfully they have put it off until the morning. The forecast looks bad even then though, so we shall have to see.

I assume the rest of the wormery is arriving in with son when he comes later in the week. It sounds like a construction job, so that will keep them happy. Apparently it involves a length of feather boarding, the sort you put on fences. Luckily there was a six foot length left at mums from when we had fixed a fence for her. I will be intrigued to find out how it all comes together in the end. Anyway it beats a pair of socks for a present.

Tecwyn Report 21 Dec 2009 19:33

It hasn't actually been quite so cold here today, still freezing of course and ice everywhere, but bearable. The paved area in my garden is covered in ice, my dog went across it this morning like Bambi, with legs skidding in all directions. I was concerned he might fall and break something as he is getting old now and must have brittle bones.

Very wise descision of your daughter Linda to leave it until tomorrow to drive up. Any delay on the motorway is far more bearable in daylight, but I hope they have a clear run, and a good journey.

Although I have found the box of worms so funny, I am actually quite intriqued by this worm farm, and hopefully you will keep me up to speed with it's progress.
Will it be going on the allotment?

Tec

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Dec 2009 20:12

I think the idea was to put it in the garden here rather than the allotment, but we shall see.We eat lots of fruit and veg,so put all the peelings in a bucket and take them down to the compost heaps on the allotment. During the winter we aren't going down there very often,so we wanted somewhere in the garden to put the waste. we don't want a compost heap, hence the idea of this worm farm.

I got some extra info about my Aussie side today via Canada (don't ask),so I am taking the opportunity to look at that tonight

Good morning/evening all.

Good luck with your worm farm, Linda. It does take a while to establish but they are easy to look after. Plenty of info. on the internet if you need it. One of the benefits is that they eat anything including eggshells - but no acidic foods like tomatoes and citrus fruits. If the farm has a tap then you get a bonus - worm juice. Great fertiliser:-))

Your weather looks horrendous. We've been watching the news and the chaos it's causing in the UK and Europe.

I am sure that my son and OH will have good fun setting it up.
I am glad that my daughter decided not to set off tonight, but tomorrow looks just as bad. They are only staying with us until Christmas eve and then they are moving on to his parents. They have to go over the M62to get there which is the highest motorway in the country. While I can't wait to see her again, I would rather them be safe than risk it.

Berona Report 21 Dec 2009 20:54

Good morning/evening all. Just heard on the news that it is minus 20 in Warsaw - so I'm glad I don't live there! I'm sure my blood would freeze in my veins. We expect 32 to-day and that's too hot, but I'll take that any day in preference to minus 20!

Allan

Allan Report 21 Dec 2009 21:00

Good evening/morning to every one.

Well our cyclone came back with a vengeance. After being downgraded to a tropical low it move back out to see and intensified!

It came back as a category 5 cyclone and hit the coast between Port Hedland and Broome. Category 5 is the highest category and winds up to 285 kms/p/hr could be expected.

the highest gust with this one was 204 kms/p/hr.

Apparently it is only one of two cyclones of this category which have hit WA's coast twice.

Stinking hot again yesterday but OH and myself laid the artificial grass but I think that OH is now suffering for it.

She has had a bad cough all week which followed from a sore throat and flu like symptons. The fine dust raised whilst we were levelling the sand will not have helped.

Diane, with the hours you are keeping in your time off you'll be glad to get back to work for a rest!

Berona, right now I'd settle for a day at -20o just to have a break from our current heat.

I hope that you didn't suffer from the wind Allan!

Your poor OH, I know exactly how she is feeling, I have even taken some tablets,so it must be serious lol. I think my nose could glow in the dark.

Hello Berona, my toes are cold, I really fancy some of your heat

SueMaid Report 21 Dec 2009 21:04

I always think it's easier to warm up than cool down but emails from family show that even with central heating and fireplaces it is still cold. My brother in law was "chatting" with my OH yesterday and he said he is chilled to the bone and can't get warm. OH is worried as his brother has a bad chest.
