Happy New Year to one and all.

"Prises eyelids slowly open"

Although I was loathe to go out last night, we had a very nice time in the end.Our host wanted everyone to arrive at 8pm, which I thought was very early, I wondered what on earth we would do for all that time, but it as amazing how the time passed. They had themed the food on a Spanish line and at 11.50pm, we were only just finishing desert. There was lot's of wine and champagne, but spread out over the evening,so that was fine.

When we walked there, it was minus 2, the roads were glittering in the frost and the pavements were hard packed ice. When we opened the door to come home, we discovered that it had snowed again,so everything is back to white. I dreads to think what the temperature was, but boy was it cold! we got home at 2am, it was strange walking the streets at that time.

Goodafternoon/ Linda and anyone else from this side of world looking in
sue you are probably in bed so sweet dream's hun.

Linda you were brave ventureing out last night, glad to hear you had a good time.

I stayed in with my youngest son and toasted the New Year with him. we remembered and toasted those who are no longer with us, those who are estranged from us, people who are ill and last but not least all our family and friend's including those we know on here and other site's.
This Christmas and New Year has been the loneliest one for myself and my son because of problem's with daughter, I tried to speak to her yesterday but she told my eldest grand-daughter ( her daughter ) that she didn't want to speak to me, so I just sent her a text to wish her a happy new year anyway. I have decided to leave well alone now and wait to see if she get's in touch.

Anyway I'm going to cook dinner now so will be back here later.

Hi Everyone,

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you Linda, and Diane
I did wish everyone in Australasia a Happy New Year yesterday, but will say it again -
Happy New Year to everyone in Oz and NZ, including Tony in Oz who wasn't around 'till today.

Our daughter and her family arrived yesterday to spend New Years Eve with us. We had a very pleasant evening, had a nice dinner, and toasted the New Year in. They went down to the beach just after midnight, despite the freezing cold, and found a group of youngsters down there having a BBQ. It was well organised with a barbie built in the rocks, flaming torches, music, and lots of wine flowing. Everyone wrapped up in coats, hats, scarves and gloves - it was -5c here at the time.
Family returned home today, and ran into a blizzard just this side of the Welsh border. We had the same blizzard this afternoon, and now the village looks like a winter wonderland - and it's freezing cold out there.

Hello Tec, I hate to tell you, but this cold weather is forecast to last for ages yet. Still on the positive side, it will kill loads of the garden pests which have managed to survive over the last few winters

Good Evening,

Linda I will be delighted if the freeze kills some bugs - hopefully some slugs that I am plaqued with - huge ones, and vine weevil that destroy things I have in tubs.

Diane.... My daughter lives 100 miles away in Shropshire, she is a teacher in a primary school there. It was good to see her, if only for one night.

Good evening/morning all

Well that's that for another year.

This festive period has also been a bit unusual for us and probably marks a change in life.

As I said previously, my son, daughter anf her partner called in on Christmas morning for breakfast and then that night we went to her partner's parents for a bit of a family get together. Very enjoyable and the first Christmas night that we have been out for many a year.

Then on New Year's Eve just OH and myself, and in a complete reversal I was up until 1230 am and saw the New year in and OH went to bed at 1030 pm

New Years Day it was just OH and myself again. We wanted to go round a couple of Garden Centres, only to find that one was closed. At the other ones we got plenty of ideas for the back garden, but apart from buying soil conditioner to work into the area we will delay buying any plants until after our trip to Freo next week. Also, it's a bit too hot at the moment to plant aything directly into the ground.

I hope that you all had a good New Year's Day

Linda, Tec

I hope that the cold weather does see off some of those pests, particularly the weevils

Although you can guarantee that if you have a large weevil and a small weevil, it will only kill the smaller one as it is the lesser of two weevils.

Good Morning Allan,
That as you say, is indeed that.
It seems that many here had a strange Christmas/New Year.
We were alone all over Christmas, and neither of felt very motivated to make much of it. We did see our daughter for 24 hrs over New Year, and that was very enjoyable.
I have to say, at risk of being called a HUMBUG, that I'm glad the whole thing is done and dusted.

If you wanted to plant anything in my garden at the moment, you would need a hammer and chisel to dig a little hole lol

Good morning/evening friends. I'm a little late this morning.

Diane - I'm sorry you are still having problems with your daughter. As Linda said - you can only try.

Tec - the young are so resilient. I couldn't imagine going down to a beach at midnight when it's -5.

We had a phone call from our son in Hobart yesterday wishing us a Happy New Year. He was very down and worrying about what the new year would bring. He discharged from the Army last May and enjoyed some time off to spend with his son and settle into a house. Now he's getting worried about getting a job - the money's running out. He's missing us too by the sound of it so I think we'll fly down before long for a visit. Our children never stop being a worry.

Good evening Tec.

I know just what you mean as it was the same for OH and myself.

Apart from the presents we did no special Christmas shopping. We had a chicken on Christmas Day which we found in the bottom of the freezer. No Christmas Pudding was eaten even though there are two small ones in the freezer from 2008.

We did buy a Lion's Christmas Cake but that also remains untouched.

Yesterday we had New Zealand Flounder for dinner. The Flounder is identical to Plaice except that it doesn't have the orange-red spots on the upper surface.

The Tree, and what few decorations we put up, are coming down today

I hope that I'm feeling more celerbratory later in the year for our 40th Anniversary!

Good morning Sue,

I think that possibly, after 14 years in the Army, your son may be still adjusting to a ''normal" life.

Obviously, the military is very structured and it may take a while for him to settle down to civilian life.

I'm sure that he will be fine
