Strange events 1

I was cranking up the barbie on New year's Eve to do a steak for myself for dinner (OH finished off a Tandoori as she had lunch out with a few of her riends and ex-work mates).

Just lit the final bar when suddenly a frog ran from under the plate trying to escape the flames.

Turned everything off as fast as I could and OH and I went on a rescue mission to retrieve the frog......it was a pity really as I do like frogs legs!

I'll bet the frog was hopping mad!

Thanks Allan - I think you're right. He's had changes over the past year or so. He was in East Timor for six months and then back home just before Xmas 2008. He then left the army in May - something he was ready for but as you say a huge adjustment. He badly needed a break and some time to rethink his future.

Hey I'm not miserable - mind you our New Year's eve and New Year's day were very quiet. As my himself would say "wet ar** and no fish. My e-mail facility has got a glitch so OH was trying to reinstate that after I had done two posts on here yesterday. Still not right won't open - so we will be at the PC place on Tuesday when it reopens.

After the family all being here it went very quiet after boxing day, however, eldest and myself visited my mother's cousin at the resthome on the last day of the year. First time daughter had seen her in ages - we got there and she was in the day room with eyes shut - I tapped her lightly on the hand and spoke and she told me to leave her alone. So was off to a good start - she wouldn't wake so we went and had a coffee and went back later. She is quite coherent at times and then disappears into fantasy. Told my daughter that Norma was very good the way she looks after 10 boys and they all had their own dressing tables. (news to me) but she talked okay about me the rest of the time. But my daughter did a giggle when Aunt said - "it's so stupid in the rest home - they put blind people in a room where they can't see" Way too profound for me - there is probably some sort of logic in there somewhere.

Very hot and humid here and himself is bashing away outside again today - it is very disconcerting when one is in the shower and he is rocking the foundations underneath my feet - sort of the wrong place and time for the earth to move.

Diane - as Linda and Sue said your daughter will probably come around in good time. I enjoyed the toast you gave us at New Years - and I remembered to have my drambuie last night instead.

As long as they are not boll weevils lookin' for a home Allan.

Good Morning Sue,

Nothing on earth would persuade me down on the beach at midnight at - 5 either, although I was invited - do I look mad?

I think many ex-servicemen find it a struggle to settle into civilian life, and if employment is an issue, then it must be very hard.
It is not the same I know, but when I first left the sea, I thought I would go insane for the first 12-18 months. I wanted to be with my family, but at the same time I missed everything I had known for so long. Your son may also be feeling this, and he needs time to adjust to civilian life.
I'm sure he would benefit from a chat with mum and dad.

Hello, Persey:-))

I'm quite concerned about our Berona. We haven't really seen her on here for awhile.

Good morning Persey

Yup we have a pond. OH always said that after the fish died, she was going to get rid of it.

Well the fish died but by then the pond was full of tadpoles!

These are descendants of the frogs my daughter introduced into our garden some years ago. She built a frog pond (this was additional to the fish pond) as she was into ecology at the time, but it did restrict what chemicals we could use for pest control.

I'm sure the neighbours just love us during the mating season (the frogs' that is) as these are the motorbike frogs.....bl**dy noisy...probably worse than Dianes neighbour!!!

I am hoping she has got some medication to take for these god awful cramps. It is not like her - as she pops in at all sorts of times and apart from that short note of H N Y s we have not heard from her.

Hi Sue :<}}

That reminds me Allan - of years ago my youngest and I went to our Winter Gardens to see an outdoor play - of Helen of Troy - and the audience sat on one side of the pond with lillies etc and the play made use of the statutes and urns etc on the other side and Helen and Paris were meeting and dusk was descending on us and it was all very serious and then ribbit ribbit...

Harley's by any chance?

Hi Perse,
I like your aunt - she sounds fun.....

Did I see you on top of a tower in Aukland yesterday, lighting fireworks - I said to OH "Oh look - there's Perse"
You did very well - it was good.

Did you really see our sky tower Tec - it was a massive undertaking - they had rockets stuck all around it etc in readiness for five minutes of sparklies. All that money up in smoke - but I guess I am not meant to worry about the economics of it all. The Russians put on a very good display.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 1 Jan 2010 22:41

It is a casino - has a theatre - and goodness only knows why the built it - think they were trying to go one better than the Yanks. It is of course a tourist attraction - costs you to go to the top in the elevator and walk around on the glass floor, and of course one of our favourite sports bungy jumping - Billy Connelly had to have a go as well - at least he kept his clothes on for that one. He didn't when he went off one of our bridges...

It is a very good landmark for people if they get lost as it can be seen for miles - I can walk out onto our little street look right and there it is poking it's head up in the clouds. They used to call it the Hypordermic needle and that is excactly what it looked like on a couple of our bendy buses they had a picture of it lying on its side the full length of the bus.

He even went down (wrong choice of word there)

Start again - he went to Antarctica and ventured out in the buff amongst the ice and snow. Ice blocks and tackle.
