Hello everyone:-))

Waves to Allan..sweet man, we like you fine:-)

Sue...Sorry you are not feeling well, hope your doc gives you a good course of antibiotics...sending hugs and get well soon cyber balloons:-))
That goes for anyone else who is feeling unwell:-))

Tec...I would have laughed, actually maybe I would have had to leave the church if I'd seen a lady wearing a hat with what looked to be a dead bird on her hat..I'm laughing as I type!!!

I always thought the reason I 'd seen so many churches in the one town was because there were so many different religions, for instance, would it have been the case that when I visited Daylesford a few weeks ago..In one street I could see five different churches? One of the churches had a date of 1865 on the outside plaque.
How many different churches would it be normal for one town/village to have in the UK? Sorry to be a pest and ask you so many questions:-)

Its such a shame that those lovely old buildings are no longer any use and lay empty.

Berona..How is your sorting out going? its one of the jobs Ive been putting off. I started doing my youngest sons room last week, I filled 2 large bags full of clothes that he has outgrown. The clothes are the tip of the iceberg in his room, there is so much more I need to do.

Well..I had better go and finish washing up the dinner dishes!!

I'm still on the bathroom Carole. Waiting for daughter and DIL's to visit so that I can offload some of the stuff which THEY packed when I moved from the previous house. I wasn't well at the time and they did everything for me - so I didn't really know what came with me and what didn't. (and I'd been in that house for more than 40 years!!). Seems like everything came with me!

I could never use up the body washes, moisturisers, hand creams, if I lived to be 150! Five large bottles of shampoo - all half filled (or half empty), and I bought another one a few days ago! And the little things - like deodorants - they were everywhere! I know I gave away a lot of perfumes only about five years ago, but I've amassed more since then somehow.

My daughter once commented "how could you have so much in your bathroom cupboard when you don't have anyone living with you?". Now I can giver her an answer!

Good morning one and all, well good mid morning anyway.

I slept well last night and woke up just before 7am, when the radio alarm switches on. We always listen to the "Today Programme" on radio 4. For those down under it is a serious current affairs programme, they interview MP's etc and don't take any prisoners.

I was so cosy, that I couldn't be bothered to get up, so I listened to that until 9am. I have been pottering since then, but feel really lethargic. I have a cold and feel achy, but I am sure that I will survive!

Carol, a small town here would normally have one C of E church and one Catholic Church. If it is a small village, it is likely only to have the C of E church. Tiny hamlets don't have any of course.

In some parts of the country, you find chapels, they tend to have sprung up in areas of low population. In Yorkshire for example where my mum's family came from, the old C of E parishes covered a huge area. That meant that it was impossible for poor folk to travel all that way to church on a Sunday,so they tended to go only for baptisms, weddings, funerals etc. In the mid to late 1800's when there was more money, "daughter" churches would be built in some of the villages of the large parishes so people had less distance to travel,so were likely to attend more often. Some of these larger parishes were then split up into smaller parishes with the daughter churches becoming parishes in their own right.

In the late 1700's Methodism took hold in Yorkshire, for various reasons, but I suspect that partly because it was easier to go to a prayer meeting in a local house than all the way to the parish church. eventually, the congregation raised money to build the tiny chapels. These were tolerated by the C of E, but you were still supposed to attend the parish church on Sunday. It was much later before this requirement was relaxed.

I hope that my little summary is vaguely correct, I do have a book about this. Some of my mothers ancestors set up the Methodist Chapel in Denby Dale in Yorkshire. One of them was a manufacturer of fancy goods and had a small factory which provided a prayer room before the chapel was built. In fact, some of the family set out in the 1830's and ended up in Geelong in Victoria. They eventually were joined by other family members and set up a wood yard. Some stayed and over the years, more emigrated to join them, but some returned to the UK bringing money to help build the chapel

I'm sorry that you're not renewing your Membership Diane.

Greetings and Felicitations to you all,

Diane - It is good to see you posting, though sad that you are taking a break. I hope very much that the probs will soon be sorted out, and that you can return to the funny farm.

I hope very much that the lovely Sue, and the lovely Linda are feeling much better, and skipping the light fantastic, looking their beautiful selves.

Hi Pat, Wondered where you were - causing chaos in your living room by the sound of it - hope you can find everything.

Berona - Is your bathroom looking bigger now that you've got rid of surplus requirements? Sounds like you could make the whole of Sydney smell nice with that lot.

CC - Hope you're not still hearing the rattling chains - if you are, it means the Hairy Maid has escaped from his quarters.

Allan, Get back below stairs immediately, you're frightening the ladies with your goulish antics.

Hello everyone:-)) Hope you are all well.

Diane - thanks for the message. I'm so sorry you are having problems - I do hope they are resolved soon. We'll miss you very much on here. You've given us a lot of laughs with your stories of your neighbour. I hope you come back before too long. Please stay in touch.

Pat - your home is going to look like a palace by the time your finished:-))

The weather here has been lovely. Warm with a cool breeze. Yesterday I sat outside most of the day reading and enjoying the peace. I feel much better so I might do that again today. Linda, I hope you are feeling better today - sorry I sneezed on you. I didn't mean to share:-))

Hello Tec - you posted while I dilly-dallied.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 17 Feb 2010 20:52

I would be fine Tec, if only I could take my head off and shake all the gunge out. Probably not a good idea as I don't have that many brains in there and can't afford to lose any more

I hope that Sue is OK as well.

I think Berona should set up a little stall by the side of the road and sell all of her goodies, she could make a fortune.

I hope your decorating is done soon Pat, it is a nuisance, but the end result should be worth it

CC, I think we Brits will Aussies soon

Hi Sue,
Glad you're feeling a bit better - sounds like a good idea to sit out with a book relaxing - enjoy it while youcan.

Just read on a thread on General that our Perse has badly injured her foot, and won't be around for a while. Poor Perse.

Perse - If you read this - what are you like? I hope you can be waited on day and night 'till you're up and running again. Take care Perse,

Tec

Hi, Linda - I'm feeling a lot better for resting as the doctor ordered. Only thing I did yesterday was pick our grandson up from school and take him to the occupational therapist. That was no hardship. You on the other hand sound as though you are still full of cold. Hope you feel better soon.

Another one on the sick list is our Persey. In case you're wondering, as I have been, where the lass is - she's had a fall and broken her foot. There is a thread on General wishing her well.

Good evening/morning everyone. Good to see more people posting than we have had for a couple of days.

Yes, Tec - whoever comes near me over the next week, will go away smelling beautiful - as will their family!

Sue - take advantage of the weather and sit out in it - and get better soon! It's cloudy here, but quite warm. Rain expected, but no sign of it as yet.

CC - how interesting that you have some skeletons in your cupboard! LOL.
I suppose we could all have some, if we delve enough! I know my SIL was very much against me doing OH's tree, but I have gone right back to the 1500's on their direct line, and not found anything interesting! They did have very big families, so maybe I missed out on something by not following up on the siblings.

Linda - how are you now? Did your trip do you good healthwise?

Pat - I would like to see your place when you finish refurbishing it!
