Hello Berona,

The garden Party was boring and not helped by the fact that I couldn't imbibe my normal mind numbing quantities of red which I need to survive such events!!

But even I know when the weather is more conducive to non-alcoholic liquids, and as I cant have soft drinks or juices, it has to be water...which under today's conditions was really tasty

Hello Danielle and welcome to the thread, I am an "up top" person.

I hope the groceries arrive OK Berona, you used to hear scare stories about home delivery, but it is so common nowadays, that it must be fine, or people wouldn't be doing it.

It is a difficult situation giving up your car. Dad was fairly old when he stopped, but to be honest I wish that he had given up a good year earlier because he really wasn't that safe towards the end. He of course didn't realise that. I think the thing to do is to ask for an honest opinion from those you drive with. If they say you are fine, then continue, if not stop.

On the other hand, when you tot up the cost of running a car these days, you can pay for one heck of a lot of taxis with that money.

Sue, I am sorry to here about your grandson. I read it as if he was at his own home. It is difficult with little ones because they rush about all over the place and run into tables and doors etc. They seem to be constantly covered in bruises at that age.

Still it does sound like a nasty bump, so he really should have been checked out, but maybe he went to sleep before the swelling arose.I would have been checking him constantly though. I remember once when I had my niece to stay over when she was little. She came wandering into our bedroom in the middle of the night with blood streaming down her face. Somehow she had managed to bang the very top of her head on the corner of the bed side drawers, she would have had to be almost upside down to do it. She must have been doing gymnastics in her sleep! As it was a scalp wound it bled profusely, but it was not a major cut. Once tended to, she settled down to sleep again, but I spent the rest of the night up and down like a yo yo checking on her. Handing her back over to my sister the following day with her hair matted in blood took some explaining.

It is evening for you Allan, so you are on fine form, but it is morning here and I am just trying to prise my eyes open (OK it is not that early, so I should be awake, more caffeine needed I think).
Sorry you couldn't imbibe at the garden party, but we wouldn't want you disgracing yourself in such fine up standing company,so maybe it is a good thing that the wine didn't flow.

edit
Not that you would ever consider drinking too much of course.

SueMaid Report 5 Dec 2009 10:11

Allan - glad you enjoyed the garden party:-)) I'm being facetious of course. You don't sound like you enjoyed it at all.

Berona - it's a huge decision to give up driving. My father had that choice taken off him when he had a stroke - we were very relieved because we felt he was no longer competent. I'd hang to your license for as long as you feel confident and able to drive safely - but of course that's my opinion.

Linda - those bunny suits that Tec suggested sound like a great idea. Can't understand why you would think it strange:-))

My daughter wasn't upset about the little one having an accident in their care. As she said - he could have done that anywhere. It was the way they handled the aftermath that concerned her and the fact they didn't contact her. It was also odd that they didn't ring today to see how he was. They are both rather odd people but love the children dearly. The children were in their own home but the little one tears around the house like a whirlwind. I think some simple rules about what to do in case it happens again would probably do the trick.

Morning everyone,
It's dry here. I'm waiting for someone to come to finish off my hedge and then I'll go shopping just up the road. I can't face going to town. Too busy!
I hope everyone is ok

Welcome to the Funny Farm Danielle, I'm Tec, and I live in Wales.

Sue - I hope your little man is getting over his accident. Little heads always seem to be in the wars, colliding with furniture, doors etc. Common sense would normally tell someone not to put a child down to sleep shortly after a nasty bump to the head. It seems that not everyone has a basic knowledge of first aid, so perhaps a gentle lesson may be in order. Always a risk leaving a child in someone else's care, and perhaps we shouldn't assume that they would know what to do in case of accident, however obvious it seems to us.

Sue I'm glad that, unlike Linda, you don't think I'm strange - it's comforting to know that someone else thinks as I do - maybe it's them that are strange. Hi Linda, :))

Allan, I'm also sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the Garden Party.I so wanted to hear that you had crawled out of the hospitality tent on all fours.
You did say that was your usual form of exit on these occassions.

Pat, It's a day for staying home in the warm, away from the hustle!

Good afternoon Tec,

I am supposed to be writing the Christmas cards, but am flagging. OH lasted all of five minutes before he wandered off to tidy the garage.

Pat you are a very wise woman to avoid the town, it will be full of Christmas shoppers. I have avoided it so successfully that I haven't got any presents. There is plenty of time to panic yet....

Tec, I require photographic proof of your fluffy bunny suit.

You are doing better than me. I hadn't even thought about Christmas cards!

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 5 Dec 2009 17:31

I have had the cards for ages, only because we sell charity ones in the tourist office. I have been doing the difficult ones, in as much as they need a letter in with them. My hand was aching so much that I have given up for now.
I will have a go at some of the easier ones later on.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 5 Dec 2009 17:51

Christmas Cards........Well I've got as far as printing off this years updated address list. It will be down to me to write them, as apparently, I have the better hand writing..........that's a sisterhood excuse if ever I heard one.

Somehow - we just don't seem to be able to find the usual or necessary enthusiasm for Christmas this year. It's not a case of Baa Humbug, we usually enjoy the preparation etc. I think we are both extremely tired, so we will crawl into Christmas, and crawl out the other side. I will of course put up the tree, and spend all day decorating it, and un-ravelling the lights. Last year we discovered that we'd lost our old fairy that we'd had for 40 yrs, she must have been thrown out accidently (nobody loves a fairy when she's forty) So we bought another, but she is rather loud and vulgar, and a bit "tarty" looking, so I will look out for a more refined looking fairy.

Where does one find a refined fairy these days?

Linda, I did not say that I had a fluffy bunny suit, I merely suggested that it was a good idea for your cold projectionists. I bet if you went to the Odeon Leicester Square, you'd find the projectionist there in a bunny suit.

How sad losing your fairy Tec. All my childhood we had the same fairy on the tree. I was horrified to find that my mother had thrown it out and bought a new one. If only she had asked, I would have loved to have had it. I did manage to rescue the battered old tinsel star which was always on the top of the tree, she was replacing that with a horrible glitzy thing.

My sister and I have been through mum's decorations and have shared the one's which are most special to us.My brother can't be as sentimental because he didn't want any of them.

Berona Report 5 Dec 2009 21:09

Hello everybody! All bright with the Christmas spirit, I see!.....?

Tec - I don't agree that nobody loves a fairy who is over forty! Don't tell me you have never seen The Wizard of Oz? Binnie Barnes was a long way over forty when she played the role of the Good Fairy in that!

Persephone

Persephone Report 5 Dec 2009 21:23

Morning all
Hello Danielle I am from NZ...... and I love going to Victoria.

Tec : Can your projectionist do panto? Or better still can we borrow the Bunny Costume - the costume department is a bit short on threads.
Our fairy met her fate sometime ago and I got this Angel but she never looked quite right and then two years ago I was given a little Maori girl christmas decoration and she has been swiftly promoted to the top of the tree.

Allan - I hope your Velcro Mac did not shock those at the Garden Party.

Berona - stay driving along as you can, I stopped for about a year or more whilst waiting for my cataracts to get worse and once both eyes were done it took me some time to get perambulated again.

Sue - yes little children and even big children can come crashing down. My daughter fell down my parents internal staircase before she could walk. I arrived to collect her and my mother didnot tell me -how could I not notice the bruising. They were both down stairs and had left the lounge door open and little miss crawled off to where she could hear the voices - they heard her bouncing down the stairs and my dad caught her third step from the bottom. But at least both of them knew about concussion etc. I think you are right that the in-laws just need to be well informed. The other thing I was told was if the child threw up after a fall that is okay but if they do it more than once or twice get them to A & E.

Linda - I have been putting off making my net curtains - haven't even purchased the net yet. You really put me to shame, but I figured if I don't go and get the fabric I can procrastinate until after Christmas.

Good Morning Berona,
OK - Maybe someone loves old fairies, but where do they go?
Are there homes for old fairies? What happens when their flying days are over?
Yes, I have seen the Wizard of OZ - but ran out of the cinema because I was scared - it was on tv recently, but I was able to hide behind the sofa when the wicked witch came on.............

Linda, It is strange how we form sentimental attachments to the simplest things - maybe that's why the Duchess still loves me!

Everyone talking about cards has reminded me I must send some very soon. A couple to the UK and one to Canada

We haven't yet put up our tree but will do so this week

My mother took me to Wizard of Oz and I hated it. I didn't run out of the theatre but I had nightmares - that damn witch. I also had a nightmare after I went and saw Ben Hur when I was about 8 or 9 - I spent most of my dreams in the galley of the ship. My youngest had a nightmare after a Shaggy Dog movie which we thought would be loads of fun for the children. She did not like the fact that a human could turn into a dog.

Good Morning Allan,
Been Walking?
The Duchess is fairly stable at the moment thanks. I saw her GP on Thursday and read the riot act. He certainly sat up and took notice. Had her in for blood tests on Friday, then phoned for her to go again on Monday for further tests. The most attention she has had in a very long time.

Persey, I haven't got a bunny suit, but Linda's making some for her projectionists - pink and blue fluffy ones.

When I was a small boy I used to come home from Saturday morning pictures in tears every week because someone had shot Lassie, or some other terrible thing had happened to him, although he was always back the next week.
