I've had a few surprises since researching on Ancestry Sue, haven't had time to go into Parish Records yet, but that should be good. I don't actually have any London ancestors - mostly rural Essex, or Welsh.

Pat... Comfort Ball is a brilliant name - some of the old names in my tree make me laugh.

There are some funny names. My favourite is my OH's 3 x great grandfather - Horatio Nelson Farmer. Rather a posh family living on Jamaica Row (Road), London.

since I got my laptop, I have had a new surge of interest in my tree. The fact that all the deaths are now transcribed is excellent

Good morning/ evening all

Linda I don't remember the winter of 63 but I do remember the winter of 59/60 I'd just started at Secondary School and I remember that my brother and I made a sled which we carted to Lyme Park so that we could use it.

the winter of 81/82 was also a bad one and as I was working at Grimsby Docks I was often out before the gritters started.

And now I'm complaining about the heat!!!

Pat, my sympathies :0))

Thinking of Alison and Berona

Linda,
Laptops are good. I took mine to Portsmouth with me.
I haven't done anything on my tree for several weeks. I'll do some more work on it next week.

Hi Allan,
I don't deserve sympathy!

The laptop is very good Pat, although it isn't doing much for my posture.
It is also confusing because it has Windows 7, but my main computer has XP

Pat, I do feel a little bit sorry for you:-))

I came to a bit of a stop for awhile with the tree and then I found by accident that someone had my OH's 2 x great grandfather on their tree on Ancestry. I asked for permission to see the tree and they had accurate information. I was also able to give them some more. Then I had a great surprise because there were some photos of some of the family. I was then able to give them a photo of OH's 2 x great grandfather and they were thrilled.

You win the prize Linda:-)) A bed in a rather nice little house in Australia although you have to pay the airfares.

Did what Linda??????????

Good Morning Allan,
I should think working on the fish docks at Grimby was no picnic in the winter - no wonder you emigrated

Linda,
Funny you say that about posture because at home my laptop is on a table and I'm sat on a proper chair but when I was at my sister's I was sat on the settee and using a coffee table. I've got a mouse rather than using the mouse pad. It didn't do my back a lot of good either. Mind you hanging around the coach station didn't help either. I had a rucksack with a load of books in it .

Sue, that's great news about your OH's antecedents

I'm still stuck at both my grandfathers, but one of my New Year's Resolutions was to do a bit more active research!

I found that I got more tree help from Genes than what I did from Ancestry but I like looking up extra information etc etc.

Congratulations Linda

My laptop is on a little tablee beside the sofa, so I sort of hang my arm over the arm of the sofa and type - sounds painful, but it works for me.
