I am not a huge fan of overseas holidays at Christmas, but we do like to get away for a few days...I am starting to have a look at places for next Christmas ! Even if we go some where that is only an hour away its enough for us.

Goodnight Linda,
Sleep well - keep warm............somehow!

Hi Berona, So glad you are feeling a little better - I just knew you'd be kicking your heels high in the air before long. Seriously though, I hope you will get to the medics as soon as you can - that was a nasty experience, and maybe they can prevent a recurrence.

Hi Janet.........My grand daughter had a new Wii game at Christmas - Formula One racing - but I suspect it was more for her dad really lol

Diane....We don't do holidays any more - but I might try to arrange something this year. Apart from OHs health, it is also awkward with the dog, as I won't put him in kennels.

Tec, we normally have the same problem with our cats, but on this occasion our daughter has offered to stay at our place for a couple of days.

Her partner will be away for a few days so she made the offer to housesit.

Fair enough as two of the cats are hers!!

Must be off now, having morning tea with friends.

Have a great day/sleep everyone..

Allan,
That sounds a good arrangement to me - especially as your daughter will be looking after her own cats.
My daughter did offer last year to stay here for a week while we went away, but it didn't happen. We did get to swap houses for a week, while she stayed here with friends to go pony trekking in the hills every day - we were able to take the dog with us to her house then.

Hello all:-))

Ive been busy trying to get my house back into some sort of order, take down Xmas decos, lights etc.

I am finally starting to get used to this lap top but I had to add a mouse cos I just could not cope with the other silly thingo:-))
I can now sit with my OH in the evenings, which is much nicer!!

OH is back at work today, but I'm having extra time off as my two younger children are still on School holidays until the end of this month. I'm going to try to plan a few day trips down to the beach and also go and visit my brother up north, in central Victoria.

I hope you are all well:-))
Stay warm/cool!!

I bought a mouse for my laptop as well Carole, I hate the .scratch pads.

There is no let up yo the terrible weather,it is so cold tonight, that I have put the electric fire on as well as the heating. We went out in the car this morning to stock up at the supermarket. The road was just compacted ice, OH was going very slowly, but as we came up to a T junction, someone was turning right into our path. It was obvious that he was going far too fast, he did turn, but continued to spin. He was just heading sideways into us. OH was doing his best to break, he managed to get the car slightly onto the grass bank on the side of the road. The other car stopped just inches from us, he looked shocked, but what do you expect if you try to drive on ice at normal speeds.

I tottered really slowly into the tourist office this afternoon, only to find that the manager wasn't there, she was in hospital, having broken her hip falling on the ice. She is the second one of my friends with a broken hip.
There is no let up forecast,we are due for snow just about everyday this week.

I can't imagine you on the beach Carole, summer seems so far away for us.

Good Morning/Evening,

You had a lucky escape this morning Linda, terrifying when that happens isn't it - but nothing you can do, except hope for the best. When I leave this village I have to negotiate a narrow steep cliff top road, that is actually a shelf on the side of the mountain. There is only a small stone wall to stop you going over the cliff. Yesterday I noticed a gap in the wall - something had gone over in the last few days, probably skidded on the ice.

I also bought a mouse for my laptop, and a memory stick to store some files on. I'm part way through my life story (old men do that) so have that on the memory stick in case my laptop dies.

Hello everyone - hope you are all well.

Linda - friends of ours in Guisborough stood and watched a car slide ever so slowly into the front room of the house across the road from them. They knew no-one was home but there was nothing they could've done anyway. They said the car was going a little too fast for the conditions. I'm a little concerned about my elderly cousin near Leeds. He has brittle bones and broke his arm late last year due to a fall. I think I'll phone him this evening.

Today we actually have sunshine - first time in awhile. It's lovely to see the sun. Sorry, Poms:-))

Hello Tec - OH also bought a mouse for his laptop.

Sue xx

Hello Tec, I thought that you would be watching the new series of Hustle

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 4 Jan 2010 21:13

Any way despite the weather, it has been a good day. My daughter went for her first scan today and all seems well. Some of you already know, but now I am allowed to go public. She sent me the photo, it is all of 485.4mm long. Apparently, it was moving it's tiny legs about. This is our first grandchild so we are very pleased about it,although it is a long time yet until the due date of 23rd July

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 4 Jan 2010 21:21

Not my kind of thing Linda.......
I did watch an interesting new series this evening on BBC Wales, called "Hidden Welsh Houses" with Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen.
Heard him talking about it in radio this morning, and he mentioned Plas Llanmihangel, once in my family, now a B&B - so I'm interested to know if that's coming up later in the series.

Sue.....Hope your cousin is ok, the hospitals are overflowing with broken bones at the moment - I had to go out today, ten miles to the shops, but checked if my elderly neighbours needed anything first.

Good morning/evening all

Linda, congratulations. July is not too far away especially as you and your OH can occupy your time by doing all that special shopping.

Sue I wish that here in the SW we could see a little less of the sun and a tad more rain. 35c forecast for here again although Wednesday and Thursday are forecast slightly cooler.

Tec, it's not just icy conditions which make the roads bad. Over here after a long spell of dry weather a lot of grease, oil, and rubber builds up on the roads, then after the first decent rain the roads are like skid-pans
