Allan, I love Jacaranda trees. I planted one just inside my front fence and it was lovely - gave shade where and when needed and looked beautiful - until I found a slight crack in the concrete on my front patio (20 feet away from it). A root had travelled under the surface and was into the foundations of the patio. I had to get an arborist to get rid of it and poison all the roots, but I still cried when I lost it.

Good morning Berona.

Just been looking at the Chat Threads: there are some unhappy people on there at the moment.

Berona, the forecasters have us down for the high 20's, low 30's over the forthcoming week end

Berona,
I'm quite sure you've always been beautiful whichever side you take after,

Do the boys still whistle at you in the street? - bet they do!

Berona
,
They are beautiful trees, but the root ystem is very invasive.

If I had a larger block I'd plant some more

Tec,

My problem is that I post on quite a few of the free ancestry sites but I forget to check them!

It's no wonder that I'm not getting very far!

Allan,
I do that too, I think if you don't get a response in say, a week, or two, you sort of give up looking, or just plain forget. The reply I found today had in fact been there for a month........

You will go far Allan - never fear - not sure where but.

How are the job prospects?

Late morning to Berona and Tec - nearly elevenses time here.

I was just laughing at a review on Ry Cooder - he played here last night and OH has just got two of his CDs cheaply from overseas.
Apparently Ry Cooder once said his voice sounded "like geese f**ts in the wind"

Hope that didn't lower the tone of our threads.

Persey

Another of my favourite plants is the Wisteria and where I am now is a villa/townhouse complex built on two long houseblocks. Apparently, the original owners had Wisteria growing where my back fence now stands - and (builders being what they are!) it was just 'cut' and levelled for the metal fence to be erected.
Each year, now, it starts up again and tries to force its way between the panels of the metal fencing. It hurts me to kill Wisteria, but I have to spray it when I see it, or I would have a mangled fence!

Good morning, Persephone.

No jobs on the horizon but I will just reat it as a break over Christmas.

My OH says that I will go far.

In fact she reckons that I should be on the Stage.....the one leaving Perth at 2.00 pm today.

I've never heard of Ry Cooder: is he a NZ artiste?

Hi All,

I'd love to have some Wisteria, but it doesn't grow here. However, our Jasmine is flowering at the moment and it smells glorious.

Have to do the bus run in a mo.

Good morning Alison

We have native wisteria here but it runs wild, and is very hard

Good morning Persey and Alison. Glad to know we have more of the sisterhood on here now.

Perse - it's time for your elevenses. It only feels like time for me (9am) and Allan must only be having breakfast - whilst Tec shouldn't feel like eating at all - (not good for you before bedtime Tec).

Ry Cooder was born in Los Angeles. I have never taken any notice of him but I am married to someone who loves music by the likes of Merle Haggard, Dwight Joakam, John Prime and other country singers but is not a Johnny Cash or Kenny Rogers fan. These are the first two he had of Cooders - got two for $10 from CD Connections.

Will your NZ Palm be okay Tec? Ry Cooder wrote a song for Van Morrison called "Full Force Gale" might be apt for the weather you are having.

I like Wisteria and Jacaranda are lovely - We had to have a Norfolk Pine removed because of the roots damaging the drains. The cost of the tree felling was nothing compared to the cost of getting the gullies and traps etc repaired in the drains.

Per se

Hi Alison

Had to look for you on bottom of page 510 as by the time I had finished - due to unforseeen interuptions from himself - the thread was a third down 511.

See you later enjoy your day, take care.

Good Morning Perse,
Good Morning Alison,

I've got wisteria, a pink one that OH wanted, planted two years ago, and it's took off like a rocket. Personally I prefer the mauve variety.

Did have a jasmin, but the dog took to watering it on a regular basis, and killed it.

Perse, Please send me another New Zealand Palm to replace mine that got damaged in the wind today.

Tec

Persephone Report 17 Nov 2009 22:22

Is there no way you can repair it Tec - tree surgery - palmolive - hugging?

I have to ask how did you get a NZ palm - and what is its native name?

We can't so much as bring a pip into this country, my father brought in some beans from Manila back in the sixties - he grew all sorts of beans.
He was always giving them away - he would even cut them up for the recipients.

Maybe everyone else left the country....all on the way to Allan's

Well, it's almost 8.30 here and the lad is on the bus. I have to start drinking my water soon for ANOTHER CT scan.

Don't feel lonely Tec!

By the way, in a PM from SueMaid, she mentioned something about 2 people being "in soooo much trouble"!!!!!!!!!! *sniggers*

Perse,
The NZ palm, sometimes called the cabbage palm, or Torquay Palm here in UK.
Native of NZ, it grows in the milder Western coastal areas of the UK.

Proper name = Cordyline indivisa

Last summer I grew some from seed, but lost them in the frost during the winter......should have brought them in
