We tend to go to Oz in either August or September and on the whole we have been pretty lucky with the weather there.

When we required snow - there was snow - Mt Hotham was absolutely great - we have our ski fields here and are supposedly reknown for them but I just loved it there - where you could drive along (with chains on) and the chair lift and skiers were there alongside of you. And the snow was so thick and powdery - it was corker.

Good morning, you seem very giddy this morning. Welcome to the world of broadband Perse. I remember the bad old days of dial up - shudders.

The rain has been torrential all throughthe night, there are pools of standing water in the garden, but they are starting to drain away now because the rain has finally stopped. when we were in York yesterday,the river was absolutely full. They had been on flood alert at the weekend, but after last night, the river is bound to flood.

It is late and I have been playing on my computer, OH has already vacuumed through the house and is currently cleaning the kitchen. He keeps giving me "idle wife" looks, so I had better show willing and flick a duster around.

I couldn't handle Tom. So I tried going back to Colin. A certain genealogical web site said I couldn't have it, as it was also in use. If anyone sees it on this or another board IT'S NOT ME.

Allan and Norma - have you run out of fish jokes yet? You know what I'm like with smells - I have to go and light the scented candles again - the computer smells like a fish market!

So what are these things on the bottom of the page?
"Post it to Facebook" does this mean a whole thread or a post goes to Facebook? If so, what part of Facebook?
Has anyone tried it?

Having spent seven years working at the Port of Grimsby including doing fish inspection at the early morning market, I love the smell of fish and the general hustle and bustle of the whole scene.

We practically lived on fish for the whole time. I still love fish but find it very expensive in WA and with very little choice of species. It's great when my daughter and partner go away fishing as they share with us

That's another reason why I like Fremantle and wandering around the fishing wharfs there.

Allan - I like fish, but I like other meat more. My diet calls for red meat four times a week; fish twice, leaving one day for chicken or anything else. I got myself into the habit of having fish on Mondays and Fridays, Chicken Wednesdays, etc. and now, I find that I look forward to a meat meal, but if it's Monday or Friday, I think "Oh no, not fish again".

Of course, where I am, we only have the "Big One" supermarket, so the fish supply is limited to a lot of factory-prepared, crumbed and frozen varieties (I shouldn't have the crumbs), or what appears to be 'fresh', which would have to be frozen before going through the delivery process - so it's a far cry from the fish that I've had in the past, caught by me or someone else in my boat - cleaned, stuffed and on the bbq within the hour of swimming in the water!

I know what you mean.

I used to get fish (mainly haddock) straight off the trawlers. It was free but at Christmas time we each bought a bottle of whisky for the guy who filleted it for us.

Plaice was also readily available as were most varieties, although you never asked for premium fish like Dover Sole or Turbot, you had to let that suggestion come from the owner.

Amazingly we never had cod as the professional fishing folk thought that it was only fit for cats!

Probably from the times I have posted about working in abattoirs doing meat inspection.

One thing about Environmental Health it takes you to some nice places !!

Actually I have worked in some very nice areas in England and overall I have never regretted my choice of career although at specific times I have wondered what the h*ll I was doing and could I have done something else

I'll still do the odd job for local government as a consultant, but as I recently passed the Food Safety Auditor's course I will register with the Health Dept as a Food Safety Auditor to assess the Food Safety plans which certain sections of the Food Industry are required to prepare.

As well as looking after our enlarged veggie garden at home

Oh yes, Barbra - I always had set meals - but not like your Mum had....Mine used to get written down so that I didn't have the same thing twice in at least a fortnight! Once written down, I knew then what to buy for the coming week.

We always had meat and three veg every night - but always different! I even wrote down the varieties of meat - lamb, beef, chicken, etc. so that they too, were evenly spaced out and each time they were repeated, they were presented differently. I kept this to myself, but once I heard my youngest son talking to a boy we were about to take for respite care (state ward). He told him how 'good' it was at our place, and he mentioned "we have something different to eat every night". Until then, I didn't think they noticed. I was merely trying to give them variety and myself a reason for spending so much time in the kitchen, that variety helped me to enjoy it!

Tec could be having power problems.

Yuo were askin Berona about set meals on set days....my mother did that. You didn't need a diary to know what day of the week it was, just look in the kitchen!

I also use to take sandwiches to school for lunch and if I said that something she had given me was nice I got the filling for weeks. When I complained i'd receive, in a very hurt tone "But you said you liked them"

Once I had left home, which was when I got married, I always made my own packed lunch, and still do.
