Didn't the glue in the old style envelopes and stamps have some sort of poison in them? Arsenic perhaps? I seem to remember hearing that somewhere.

Hello Pat,

You must excuse me, and my insanity........... but...your opening line

" I've just come in from going out" gave me a fit of the giggles

followed by "I've never eaten magic mushrooms"

made me choke.....

Sorry Pat, but I can't help my strange sense of humour,

apologies,

Tec

Allan, you are so funny.....

Pat, I am going to treat myself to a lap top for Xmas,so that I can chatter away on an evening from the lounge. at the moment i am in the room we use as a study, away from OH.

On second thoughts.....

I will still use this main computer for my family history because I prefer the larger monitor and having all the things on my desk.

Tec,
I write as I speak. English isn't one of my strongest subjects!
I know what I meant!
I'm glad it made you laugh!

Sorry Perse, I forgot to say that it has been raining all day here. OH went out for his walk with the ramblers and he was really fed up when he got back because he had been squelching through deep mud all day.

Linda, did I detect a hint of sarcasm in that comment ?? :0))

Not just you Tec I did a little giggle as well, reminded me of 'Lannigan's Ball'.

Oh and Gracie Fields - when she was here in NZ she donned a Maori piu piu and sang one of our Maori songs. I have been searching for the photo, it is in one of my books.

Pat,

I've never eaten magic mushrooms either, though some on here might think I have at times........

Linda,
I'm sure it's been dry most of the day in Exeter. Ifit rained I didn't notice. It was dry when I went out lunchtime. Work wasn't too bad. At least tomorrow is Friday.

I could be wrong, Linda. I just thought I'd heard something about it.

Pat - I can be very headmistressish at times. My OH went to one of our open meetings and he said afterwards that he was amazed at how I handled certain questions that came up. He said he had never heard that tone in my voice when speaking to him or the children:-))) I think he liked it:-)))

Allan - I still don't think Sue is the headmistress type - but she probably would adapt very well. Her kind of experience does toughen people up - but they also learn how to be diplomatic, too.

Does she know that while she was away, you and Tec were referring to her as "Mother"?....Naughty boys!!

What is the glue on the back of postage stamps and envelopes made from?

* THE GUM on British stamps is composed of polyvinyl alcohol and dextrin. The dextrin is derived from starch (e.g. potato) and the vinyl alcohol is a synthetic derived from petroleum. The gum used on ready-stamped stationery items is a blend of polyvinyl acetate and dextrin with the exception of aerogrammes, where the gum is a blend of polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl alcohol. Slimmers may be interested to know that a single standard postage stamp contains 5.9 calories and Special or Commemorative stamps 14.5 calories. To avoid offending any religious groups or vegetarians, no animal products are involved.

That doesn't say about the old ones though

Linda

My youngest was a big fan of Herriot's books - and of course we watched all the programmes So I can visualise your husband out there doing his squelching - hope he had his wellies on. Allan has some spare ones.

Just consulted with OH and he said that the glue was a terrorist threat in the US. Someone had laced the glue with cyanide - or was threatening to.

Wellies, oh no, he has all the gear, expensive walking boots etc.

I think that you are getting mixed up with Compo in last of the Summer Wine.

Thankfully OH doesn't look like that.

I am off to spend some quality time with him (no Allan, not that sort!)

So goodnight everyone.
