Our post has just arrived which includes a CD of all marriages here in NZ from 1836 - 1956 - saves trips to the library and will give me peoples full names - it only gives year of marriage not actual date but will be a big help. I am so pleased yippee.

Oh and Tec if you ever get the chance watch the movie Oh What a lovely War - it's a spoof of the first world war - and is excellent made in the sixties I think.

I love getting cd's or transcription books Perse, I hope you found lots of new information. It is so much easier looking through them at home than in the records office. In the offices here, the records are on film or fiche. By the time I have spent an hour or so scrolling through them, I start to feel really sick.

Going back to the sage of the missing 21st card, OH just phoned to say that as he was walking into town, he just spotted a brown paper back with a card in it. It was on the ground only about a hundred yards from here. As it has been out in the rain all night, I don't think that the card is going to be in a fit state.

I had to phone the person concerned to tell them what had happened,so I think I will send the card to them as proof of my little tale. It is my nephew and he isn't really bothered about the card,he is only interested in the gift which he hopes will go with it, lol.

Yes Linda have not got much HW done today. Been having a lovely play and have been e-mail others with info - so am very pleased with it.

No I didn't think your OH would be dressed in Compo's wellies or even Norman Clegg's ( that was) raincoat. I loved that program - I am always telling himself to wipe his feet on the mat and not on my clean sufffaces.
I have a picture here of James Herriot here in a very nice pair of wellingtons or gumboots as we call them. The book is "the best of James Herriot"and has some lovely pictures of them thar hills and the buildings etc in Yorkshire. It is such a lovely book, I bought it for my daughter years ago and she left nearly all her books here when she went to Wellington. We took a lot of them down with us but this one I have kept here (she knows I still have it) as I like it so much.
I just wish they would repeat them and Last of the Summer Wine instead of all these stupid American Sitcoms.

My mother used to think I was strange the way I would always open my card first and read it before I opened the present. Your card has a story behind it - makes it much more interesting.

The ramblers take their kit very seriously. some of them spend an absolute fortune on their branded gear. Luckily OH is not like that, he buys sensible but serviceable stuff.

Hello to everyone. I've had 2 nights where I haven't had to use morphine. Yaaay. But I'm up early this morning (it's 5.35 now) as I seem to be more comfortable sitting up than lying down. To answer your question way back, Berona, I've only had morphine a couple of times, both at night and I fell back asleep, so haven't experienced any weird stuff.

I've asked my sister to go halves in some Hampshire CD's with my hubby for Christmas. Hubby has family from there, as do I.

How did the cushion buying go, SueMaid?

It is good that you haven't had to use the morphine too often, and I hope that maybe you feel like eating a bit more......a little of what you fancy maybe.

Lets hope that Santa is good to you, and has room in his sack for the Hampshire CDs - after all, they don't take up much room do they.
Should imagine they will be an enormous help with your research.
I really must get to grips with mine, been very lax lately, and as my ancestors apparently won't reveal themselves without a fight, then I'd better be ready for some serious work on them.......

Perse - I don't think it strange that you look at the card first before opening the present. My grandchildren have been taught to do that and to thank the giver, before opening the present. I think that's nice to see. It shows that they appreciate the card and the gift, whatever it is.

I once went to a 21st party and was met at the door by the birthday girl who grabbed the present out of my hand and began ripping the paper off while she told me to 'Hello, go on in - the others are in there" all while I was taking one step into the house! I thought that was so rude. She did the same again later when I attended her baby shower. Too interested in what she is getting to be bothered saying 'welcome'.

Alison - it's good that you haven't had to take much of the morphine. My BIL has been taking it on and off for years now. About ten years ago, he was given 2mth to 4yrs maximum to live - and has been supplied with all of these medications including the morphine - but I think he will outlive all of us! He resists taking them too, but occasionally has to give in.

Where is Sue this morning? Did you get new cushions yet, Sue? I hope you got some for me while you were there. I've had my 'new' lounge suite for about eight years now, and still haven't got the right cushions for it!

I will be leaving you early to-day because I need to do a little top-up shopping (what I forgot to do earlier) and we are promised a high of 38 to-day, so the earlier I get out, the better!

Berona we had our children put any gift they were given at a party on a table to be opened later. It was so much fun for them to sit surrounded by their friends while they opened one gift after another. I've noticed that my daughter does the same with her children. When my 5 yo grandson had his party in August it was the first time that he had little friends from day-care. He was so excited when they came in the door that he just hugged them with delight. It was a lovely thing to see.

To answer your question from earlier Tec - that was definately NOT me singing "the hills are alive" in the Sound of Music. I was a mere child when that movie came out you cheeky devil:-)) Julie Andrews indeed!!

Alison nice to see to see you and I’m glad you are feeling a little better. Any news re the radiotherapy? Are they able to do it? Like Tec I’m full of questions.

Linda – my brother and I went to the Leeds library to do some research. The staff were great and very keen to help the Aussies. Even so it took such a long time to find what we were looking for. We found marriage and baptism records easily but we were also looking for news items in the local newspapers re the death of my great grandfather and my father’s cousin in WW1. We did find them but it took forever and my head ached by the time we were finished. The sad thing is that we found the notice in the paper about dad’s cousin being injured in France and that his parents were hoping for him to come home before long. By the time it was in the paper he was already dead. He was their only child.

Ah.....the cushions. No I didn't get any because I couldn't find anything I liked. I did find two I really liked but they didn't have more than the two on the shelf. The girl in the shop said they MAY get some more but I wasn't taking the risk. I think I'll probably make some. I rather like the long rectangular ones that have come into the shops so I think I'll have a go at those.

Well I am now officially a man of leisure, although my OH thinks of me more as a man who can now get cracking on various jobs around the house.

My first one was yesterday when the floor waste in the downstairs bathroom was overflowing (shades of Berona, but fortunately only water from the wash basin, not full on sewage!)

dug up the drain outside only to find that any blockage was between the waste and the drain. I say any blockage because when I tried the sink etc everything appeared fine!

Fingers crossed that it was only a partial blockage that has cleared itself

Hello Allan. Are you sad that the job is finished? Anything else on the horizon or are you happy to join the "retired brigade". OH doesn't know how he fitted in work as he is so busy with his volunteer work and the yard. He does most of the cooking these days so I'm happy:-))

The job was fine and it brought back memories of my 16 years with the Shire.

The very last thing I had to deal with was a building permit issue from1994!

the permit was for the erection of a Park Home. Some poor person bought said home for $200,000 a few months ago and the caravan park on which it has been site has been rezoned to Industrial Land. The owner of the park is in the process of selling and has told all the permanent residents they have thre months to move.

The person who bought the Park home is now claiming that Council should not have issued the permit. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't have a leg to stand on!

So the upshot is that I may be back at Dardanup sooner than I thought if it ends up in Court.

Apart from that, I'll take it easy until Christmas and see what transpires in the New Year
