Berona Report 11 Dec 2009 21:03

Good evening/morning everyone. Sue, we were concerned about you. Hope the problem was sorted and apologies made, if necessary. I saw the threads, but not the offending one, so I can't comment. Just don't scare us like that again eh?

Tec - there is an old saying "doctors bury their mistakes" and I'm very glad you lit a fire under your GP, or you might have come into that category. They do make mistakes, just like anyone else - except that their mistakes can cause the loss of life - so they sometimes need to be reminded of this.
Keep that fire lit!

Diane - thinking of you and getting excited about your time off - hope you really enjoy it.

Perse - can we be sure that Allan was invited back to work? or did he arrange this to get out of digging the garden? Hmmm.

Hi, Berona. Sorry I truly didn't mean to worry anyone. I feel suitably chastened:-(

Silly me - I forgot to mention that we took the grandchildren to see the Wiggles in a Christmas concert. We all had a wonderful time and it was a delight to watch the children's faces when everyone came out on stage. The older one was dressed in full Captain Feathersword costume and one of the twins had Wag the Dog's ears and the other a Dorothy the Dinosaur tail. We had lunch afterwards and they sang a song from the show to the delight of nearby people:-))

Good evevning/morning everyone.

I'm going to make an offer to the Shire of Dardanup of a long term contract to work for them, probably 3 days a week.

Given the current situation it may be a tempting offer as local government in WA is staring down the barrel of enforced amalgamations coupled with a shortage of qualified staff. Watch this space

Linda, I think that was a very nice thought regarding the wreath.

Sue, tsk, fancy becoming embroiled in an argument on this site!

Tec, I'm glad that your GP duly accepted his dressing down. Years ago I went to a junior GP when I had breathing difficulties. He diagnosed gallstones. I didn't believe him and fortunately neither did the Consultant I saw. The Consultant made the correct diagnoses...Pulmonary Embolism.

Good evening to Diane

Good morning to Berona and Persey

Arr bless them Sue, don't they sound like Angel's when they sing, I love it when my grand-daughter's sing and dance for me and I think they enjoy doing it as much as I enjoy watching.

Hi Berona I'm not to bad today, my FM is still troubleing me but my tab's keep it bearable thank's,
The way you are all looking forward to my time off sound's like you are all having it off with me, ( oopps that doesn't quite sound right doe's it ) you all know what I mean but if any-one think's I should delete then I will but I thought I'd leave it and give you all a giggle as it wasn't till I read back on it that I realised the double meaning lol.

Hello Diane,

It's my two finger typing! OH often strolls in here when I am posting and then has a good laugh at my typing technique....or lack thereof!

Good Morning Sue and Berona and Perse,
Good Evening Diane,

Sue, Good to see you back, you were missed, and we did wonder. Anyway, I hope your friend feels better now. So sad when decent people are hurt and offended by the nastiness of others.
Glad you enjoyed your evening out - I too have sat through many a boring speech following a good dinner - sadly the two sometimes go together.

Berona, Hope you are well this morning. Yes doctors do make mistakes like everyone else, but in this instance it was more a case of apathy.
Goodness knows they get paid enough. Many people, especially older people, seem to regard the medical proffession in awe and wonderment.
I don't, never have. My attitude is that electricians study wiring, plumbers study pipes, etc etc. Doctors study anatomy of the human body. They should all practice their trades with competance and responsibility. If they don't then their expertise should be questioned - there is certainly no place for apathy in the medical proffession.

Hi Diane, What plans have you got for next week? apart from having a well earned rest - I hope.

Good Morning Allan,

I'm quite sure your offer to the Council will be accepted with open arms - seems to me they have no choice - I hope you reach a satisfactory agreement.

I too have had a pulmonary embolism - the GP had no idea what was wrong, and suggested I drive myself to A & E, a very junior doctor immediately diagnosed the problem and a bed was found.

Tec I will probably go over to the Wirral on one of the day's to visit my sister, one of five sibling's but she is the only one I see the other's don't seem to keep in touch with each other but I have only had contact with the one since I was 15yrs ( long story ) and won't bore you with it.
I plan to spend next Thursday in Liverpool Town Centre, starting at the Dock's and working my way into town, Liverpool One, and then Lord ST, Church ST and then back to Liverpool One when it is dark and if possible I will go on the Ferris wheel ( 30meter's high ) OOHH if I have the gut's to get on it, and I will be able to see all the town centre lit up. That should take the whole day up as I will be doing my Christmas shopping, and just in case your wondering who will hold it all while I'm on the wheel I have asked my son to meet up with me around 5oclock to mind the shopping when I go on the wheel, he won't go on it as he doesn't like height's.

Tec,

it was strange: I'd already spent one night in hospital but was discharged.

A few days later the Consultant phoned me and said that he had arranged a test for me at a private radiology clinic, but as a public patient.

The young radiographer did some tests, next thing she was on the phoe to the consultant. She then told me that I was wanted back at the hospital.

I said OK I'll just go home and get my things.

Her response was the only place you are going is to the Hospital now: and you are not under any circumstances to drive yourself there.

Fortunately OH was with me.

Diane, Your planned day out sounds wonderful. I would love to do that, though doubt I would have the stamina. I hope you do it, and hope you enjoy it.

Allan, They do hit the panic button when a P E is diagnosed - you can die instantly - I did drive myself there, and the doctors were amazed I'd got there - anyway, a week in hospital and it was sorted, fortunately.

If a doctor diagnoses a PM it is already too late :0))

Berona Report 11 Dec 2009 22:23

I was given good care by a team of GP's for more than forty years. One of the office assistants told me they discussed every patient whenever they had a chance - tea break, lunch, etc. so that if the attending doctor was unavailable in an emergency, the replacement would know the situation and they valued each other's opinion..

As they were all within a 10-year age bracket, they all retired within a few years of each other and were replaced by people who were only interested in making money. The doctor who took me over insisted that I see her only for my BP and arthritis, etc. but that I should visit her as a Weight Loss specialist at a different time of day (at specialist rates). This went on for two years without any loss of weight, before I asked to see a thyroid specialist. After removal of my thyroid, I changed to another GP and was sent to a dietician who completly changed the diet the 'specialist' GP had approved of - and I began losing weight. That was 8 years ago, and I am happy with the lady I now see. I'll never go back to that place again!

This question is aimed to the Brit's as all other's probably won't know what I'm talking about.
Did any of you see the new's last night about the new Scanner donated to Alder Hey Children's Hospital by one person costing 3million pound's, the first one ever to be available in this country.

I'm back. OH went out to the hardware store and supermarket so I took advantage of an empty house and washed the floors - as one does:-))

Allan - don't tell me off about arguments on the board. I already feel bad so be quiet:-))

Diane - your planned day in Liverpool sounds wonderful. I love Liverpool from the docks to the shops and surrounding areas including all the Beatles' homes.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 11 Dec 2009 22:42

Diane - No I didn't see that, it was probably on regional TV, maybe Granada in the North West - but that is wonderful.
I have had a lot of dealings with Alder Hey. In the 1980s we fostered a 13 yr old boy who had lots of medical problems. He was with us 'till aged 16 and I accompanied him to Alder Hey every 3 months to see his consultant for those three years. Nothing but admiration for that hospital and they deserve anything they can get.
What a great thing to do, whoever donated it.

Sure you were Allan - I think we all know each other well enough now that if any of us need a telling off we'll do it. In the nicest way possible of course:-))

Oh you poor thing, Tec. As it takes awhile for the floor to dry in winter that must be very uncomfortable for you:-)))
