One of them is my BIL Allan and he could open a hardware shop of his own with the amount of gear he has.

As we get older, it is difficult because we all have more or less everything we need. At least we ladies are always grateful for smelly things, well nice smelly things (At least I am)

I used to get all sorts of nice edibles for my brother, but as he is diabetic, that is more difficult now. I remember when diabetic sweets first came out, I got him some and he ate them all in one go, with pretty dire consequences. Let's just say he became intimately acquainted with the smallest room in the house

Hi Allan are you well today, I hope it is a bit cooler for you today hun.

Linda, is it Ullswater the place were there is a train that pull's up along the side of Lake and then you can get a boat across the Lake to the other side, I know I have been there and if it is the place I am thinking of when we got to the other side on the boat we walked back around the Lake on a 5or 6 mile official Rambler's trail.

Good evening Tec, your great aunt sounds fascinating.

Perse, we were avid campers when the children were little, you can't beat it. When they got older we had a trailer tent and we went all over France, happy memories, but I do prefer the creature comforts of hotels now.

Berona Report 12 Dec 2009 22:02

One of my sons and his wife seem to have 'everything' and this year, when we asked what they would like, they suggested that we each give them a voucher drawn on the same store so that they can put them together and get something expensive - so we all jumped at that. I do prefer to give a gift, but they come to see me - I don't go to their place very often, so I have no idea what they would like or if my taste is the same as theirs. This way, they can make their own choices and are in a comfortable position where they can add to the cost, if they wish.

My daughter does a lot of my shopping. She has a subsidiary card on my credit card and does a lot of my shopping for me. All I have to do is pay the account by internet banking - and yet, I still haven't wrapped the present up! I've had to check with her to find out which goes to who? Shame on me. I'll do it to-day.

I don't know about the train Diane, it has steamers going between Pooley Bridge and Glenridding, but we won't be going on them at this time of year.

Good Morning Allan,
I have returned the Mac, complete with stains - that Mac could stand up on its own.............

Linda, I hope you have a good rest at the lakes - can I see you underneath a huge umbrella, fishing?...............

My daughter has been on the phone nagging me about what I want for Christmas - I haven't a clue - there's nothing I want, or need. She says I'm awkward...........no I'm not

It is a shame that we cannot board a time machine and go back and talk with some of our ancestors. As Linda says you come across some real gems in your history and go if only.

I am usually first with Christmas Mailing, but this year whilst I got the overseas done before him - he has done his NZ cards as well - all six of them. There is normally a lot of fretting as he also writes a yuletide ((missal )) of what he has done for the year but this year with being redundant it was all done and dusted in no time.

Good morning/evening everyone:-)) I'm a little late this morning.

Allan - my mum always gets OH a gift voucher for Xmas from a hardware store. Do you have Bunnings over your way? Best stay cool today and out of the sun. It's going to be another warm, sunny day today here (sorry, Poms) as was yesterday. We're doing some tidying up in the garden and generally getting things ready for Christmas.

Linda - I love the Lakes District. We went on a cruise on Coniston Waters at 8.30pm and it was warm. It was a wine and cheese cruise.

Talking of cheese. I used to put together a cheese platter for my father in law at Christmas. I could never think of anything to buy him and he loved his cheese. I would put in a pot of quince paste and crackers and when he smoked we'd add a cigar. We'd also give him a bottle of port. He would look forward to that every year although my sister in law thought it was a poor gift. I always put together a small hamper for people who are hard to buy for. NIce coffee and a coffee mug with fancy biscuits. Or nice tea. Nicer than shop bought hampers.

Linda - we always camped when the children were little but like you we've discovered the comfort of hotels or at the very least ensuite cabins in caravan parks.

This thread is very funny to follow at times. I nearly missed the bottom of previous page. By the time I have finished typing six people have jumped the queue and boarded the train before me.

I have had words with my eldest daughter a couple of Christmases ago to give her sister and BIL vouchers - her taste and their taste are so far apart.

Oh what joy and fun Christmas is - it can bring out the best and the worst in all shapes and forms.

Allan

Allan Report 12 Dec 2009 22:18

Good morning Persephone and Sue.

Sue we have a Bunnings store in Bunbury. It is a large one and has wholesale and retail outlets. That is where we will be buying the son's gift voucher from.

Tec , thanks for the mac

Morning Sue

OH's father loved his little all sorts cheeses etc that we gave him each year and I have no idea what my SIL thought, she probably didn't even know - I am not sure whether she ever did Christmas.

We can move to Oz - they have Bunnings - we can only live anywhere there is a Bunnings or so it had been declared.

I usually end up with a put together hamper type gift fo my brother Sue, it is so difficult to think of anything else.

I assume that Bunnings is like our B&Q stores.

How's the job going Allan - will you be getting Christmas Holiday pay?
I think this should be a must.

Good Morning Sue,

That cheese board sounds rather nice - I would be delighted to receive that for Christmas

Allan - Did I leave any money in the pockets?

Linda when I said train I did actually mean a steam train.

Goodmorning Sue
I enjoy it when one of us Pom's ( as you call us ) talk about thing's here as most of you who don't live here have lived or visited here and know were we are talking about and we are able to have a disccusion with you about are favourite places. I wish I was one of the Brit's who could join in with you other's when you talk about were you live but unfortunately I have never been further than Ireland and the Isle-of Man. Sob's it's not fair.

There you go then Tec - suggest to your daughter that you would like a cheesey present.

Berona

Berona Report 12 Dec 2009 22:31

I should encourage you to do just that, Allan. It might boost the dividend on my shares! I started with a few from my place of employment, then they were bought out, and so were they bought out and so on until I am now dealing with Western Australia. Looking back, I'm not quite clear on how I got there!

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 12 Dec 2009 22:32

Diane, I have never been to Ireland or the Isle of Man. Some parts of Ireland sound lovely and they are easy to get to, I just hate the thought of Ryan Air.
