Berona Report 13 Dec 2009 22:37

I know how you feel Allan. I'm looking forward to Christmas Day to see the kids enjoying themselves - but I haven't put my tree up because our day will be held at my daughters - not my place - so unless they drop in to see me, no-one will see it....Without children around, it just isn't the same as it used to be, is it? It hardly seems worthwhile putting it up "in case" people drop in - and then having to take it all down again....That must make me a miserable old b*gger, like you!

Just me

Popped in to look at Tec's Christmas Tree.... Am truly amazed - it looks really lovely - you have trimmed it beautifully. Mrs Tec must be very pleased with you.

I have only ever had one winter christmas and would you believe I was in Arizona at Mesa where snow just does not happen. Had a white thanksgiving but up in the mountains in Arizona.

My little Maori fairy is dancing around waiting to go up on the tree but I stick with tradition and put it up on Christmas Eve... which is a worry has have lots to do on that day and night so maybe I will be sneaky and do it on 23rd.

Now off to shorten OH's trousers - bought them ages ago. The previous time he got new ones it took me about a year to get around to shortening one pair. I would rather be mowing.

Persey with sleigh bells ringing.

Oh, puleese Berona - not two Allans bah humbugging Christmas.

We did not put ours up last year as we went to our daughters. But this year we are the choice of venue so it will be go go go without let it snow let it snow let it snow. Probably rain - as it so often does at Christmas here.

Damp Persey..

Berona, both our children (?) will be coming over for breakfast on Christmas Morning. My son may stay on for lunch.

But I think that the magic of Christmas is for the little ones.

If we had grandchildren, I might feel more festive but to me it's just another season.

And this year we are not going to over-indulge.

Our only extravagance, if it can be called that, is to make some force meat stuffing for the chicken. This has been a family favourite from when I was a child.

Just sausage meat lambs liver breadcrumbs and seasoning, onion, garlic all bound together with an egg. Fantastic

23rd we will have a special meal.

Although both are long gone, it will be my Mum and Dad's 70th wedding anniversary.

Tec, it must have been the war years.

my dad was 24 and enlisted in the RAFVR in the January of 1940

But what an amazing coincidence!

Perse,
Thank you, I'm glad you like my tree - it does look rather good, with four sets of lights, this year I opted to put everything silver on it, so basically it's silver and white.

Berona, Can I please come to put your tree up?
I don't like to think of you there without a tree - I will think about that over Christmas

Allan - you will probably change if you get grandchildren. I lost my OH on 22nd but my four children were still at home, although adults, but within the next five years, the grandchildren came along and put the enjoyment back into it for me. I still miss seeing my children's faces when they open their presents.

My daughter allows her children to open the presents from THEM, but any others from those of us who are coming over later, must be left until we arrive - so we try to get there early and if possible, bring the gifts with us.

Allan,
My father was 23 when they married, and mum was 19 yrs old.
He went away a week after they married into the army. Came home before going to North Africa, and I was born in Jan. 1941, but he didn't return 'till 1946.......what a strange time for them.

I'm the other way around, Carole. I just can't get motivated to get anything done. Half the presents are now wrapped and labelled - only a few left to do - and my cards are all written, addressed and stamped - but not posted yet!!!!...Tried to get myself motivated to go out and post them to-day, but since I have to go out tomorrow to keep an appointment, I decided to leave it until then. Wasn't hard to make the decision!

Hi and good night Diane:-))
1 day to go!! YIPPEE.

Hi there Berona
I was supposed to go shopping today, but Ive put it off till tomorrow, too!!
Ive sent off all my aboard cards last week and some local ones too, but I'm starting to receive some cards from people I didn't think of, so now I have more to send.
I ordered some books online last week from Borders, I'm really surprised because the came in the mail today. So like you I have to go down to the post office and pick them up. They are too lazy to deliver them to my door as the drive way is too steep, plus the dogs bark like mad!!!

Good morning/evening lovely friends. Hope you are all well:-))

I may miss some of you as I have a meeting to go to this morning. The last meeting until February. I expect you all to behave:-)

I've now sorted and posted my Christmas cards so I'm feeling pretty good about that. Tomorrow I'll finish the last of my Christmas shopping. My plan is to have everything done by the weekend but we all know that "the best made plans of mice and men........."

Good evening everyone. Good morning to any Australasians who may be with us.

Started the day with a lovely Christmas e-card. Thank you very much Sue. A lovely way to start the day.

I'm slowly getting there with Christmas. Finally finished wrapping presents; posting my cards to-day; and seeing my doc for results of my annual checkup. I'll no doubt come away with a supply of scripts to keep me going for a while. I've decided that if the grandchildren come over - they can put the tree up and enjoy decorating it. I've even put in another grocery order for delivery on Friday - then I will only need to buy whatever can't be bought very far ahead of the following weekend! Now I don't feel so guilty!
