Hello, Tec. It's easy buying for my family these days. Gift vouchers all round:-) The littlies have discovered parcels so I have things for them to unwrap and then some money for mum to buy them new clothes for summer. I've just bought a little teaset for our grand-daughter's family of dolls. They are apparently too grown up now for bottles and need cups of tea:-)))

Hello all! Good to know everyone is on deck and getting there as far as Christmas goes. No use talking to Diane - she will be either asleep or our shopping! Wherever she is - she's not at work - so I hope she is enjoying herself!

We have those 'carts' too. Some of them these days are very sophisticated and decked out like a streamlined kitchen. They turn up at outdoor events and are very popular. One well-known one not far from the Harbour Bridge, has been known for many years - named "Harry's Cafe de Wheels" - sold meat pies with mushy peas. I believe they are subject to Health inspections and must hold a vendor's license.

I well remember the pie-man coming around during school holidays. Oh the joy of a pie or sausage roll smothered in tomato sauce. Even better if the ice-cream man came around later in the afternoon. Although with 4 children in the family an ice-cream was a treat. Mum would make ice-cream with Carnation milk. She still makes some for me as a treat - little custard tarts too:-))

Sue -I still have my doll's china tea-set with nursery rhyme characters on it. I was hardly ever allowed to play with it for fear that I would break it. Mine only played with it on special occasions and it has been in storage - don't think my grand daughters ever played with it - I gave them plastic ones.

My grandchildren each have a santa sack made out of felt - I buy bits an pieces for their sacks during the year and then one or two good presents go in with them. When they arrive we usually have our midday lunch/dinner and then open the presents afterwards. My OH gives both daughters and SILS a cheque and they are extremely happy with that.

Great! Our postal workers are walking off the job - and I posted my cards yesterday! That's what I get for not posting them sooner!

I remember having a lovely china teaset. Can't remember what happened to it but having a mum who throws away anything that is old it's probably long gone. No heirlooms in my mother's house:-))

Berona - I posted parcels yesterday so I'm thinking the same.

I think Australia is the home of the pies. They have so much choice/variety.
In Tasmania we used to go to Banjos and I just loved their cauliflower mornay pies... you name it they made it. But I couldn't bring myself to try the pie that floats in a mushy pea sort of soup affair that they do in Adelaide. Billy Connelly likes them. And I haven't tried kangaroo pie - sort of have visions of it hopping around on my plate.

I have a box of Four and Twenty - party pies from OZ in my freezer. I think that is such a good brand name.

Oh yes Sue - I had them when we were in Perth just outside of Launceston. I have a Huon Valley recipe book and it has the recipe for curried scallop pies.
They would never dream of having just a pie shop here.... I went to one in George Town and just stood there in awe - I was just so sorry I was travelling or else I would have bought all sorts of pies.
The other thing I liked there was the variety of Lemon drinks - I was in my element, pies, shell fish and refreshing lemon drinks.
I shall return...

Good morning/evening all.

Diane, enjoy your well earned rest.

Sue, Berona, have the Posties walked off the job?

The reason I ask is that I heard they will still be delivering mail, but will not be checking to see whether or not it is stamped: and aren't many of the Posties contractors these days

Janet the fire causing the problems for Perth was still out of control yesterday, but the cooler weather may help.

Good evening Tec. I used to love going for walks in the evening at Christmas time when we lived in the UK. I'd take my son with me and we would look at the various Christmas Trees etc which were lit up..

Hello to Bo Peep....er I mean Persephone

Good Morning Berona,
We had a postal strike a few weeks ago, but the dispute has now been settled .Now British Airways cabin crew are striking from 22nd December through to 2nd January, right through the Christmas holidays. That will cause chaos around the world. Nice timing for maximum effect.

We have only got to wrap presents for a little family that live nearby - they are great kids, and treat me like some sort of celebrity, wave and shout my name whenever they spot me. It's quite a laugh really.
My daughter and SIL will be getting money towards their new bathroom, and grand daughter money to buy new riding clothes, she is always needing new stuff, and it's so expensive. So that's easy this year.

Hello Allan - and I'm afraid bye bye. I must be off to beat the shopping rush. I thought they were walking off the job but I may have read it wrong and panicked:-)

See you all later.

Good Morning Allan,
Hope you are well today,
Yes it's nice to see all the Christmas trees in peoples windows with the lights on. I think I mentioned yesterday that it's become quite a thing for people to decorate the fronts of their houses with masses of lights and illuminated figures of santa, reindeer, all kinds of things, like Blackpool illuminations. I think just the tree is enough for us really.

Sue........Sorry about your mishap.......sniggers........

Bye Sue....Enjoy shopping, but don't forget to change before you go out, not that I believe you are accustomed to going out in your pyjama bottoms.

Allan Report 15 Dec 2009 21:50

Tec, the decorating of houses eternally is a big thing in WA.

The local TV Stations and Press run competitions to choose the best house.

It is also a popular 'tourist' type thing with cars whizzing all round the various locations and sometimes the odd coach, usually full of senior citizens.

However given the current economic climate and spiralling power costs, there are fewer people doing it this year

We have streets here that go the full hog with decorations. It started out with one street in Ponsonby but now other areas have got in on the act.

The Ponsonby one caused traffic jams with all the people coming to see the illuminations - we took the little bloke along when he was between two and three - by the time we got to the street he had fallen asleep and no amount of prodding from older sister would wake him up.

It did look very nice - but I would hate to live there - they all seemed to be trying to outdo one another.

Well - I am fully dressed and all my apparel is dry... so I will catch you all later.

Hi to Pat, Carole and Janet and Linda the Lady of the Lakes.

Keep on smiing Alison.

Bye the rest of you - but must pop over to the panto thread before I leave the puter.

Persey/ peep.
