Allan,
I'm interested to know that is done there too. They have competitions here too for the best decorated house.
I've also noticed that fewer houses do it now. , Some of the houses look amazing, but I don't think I'd like to get into all that, being a rather conservative body - not miserable, just reserved by nature.

Hello every one.

We got back late this afternoon. I had a quick read through of all I had missed. Tonight we had cinema duty and now I can't remember anything I read. Oh well...

Hi Diane,
Good to get the cards out of the way isn't it - I excelled myself this year, even took me by surprise - all done and posted by the 6th.
Do you know, the heating has been on all day, and my legs and feet are freezing - be glad when it's time for bed, just to get warm, and it's supposed to get much colder by the weekend.
Think I'll hibernate............

Hi Linda, did you have a restful time away and are you ready to get into full swing for Christmas, I will be off to Town on Thursday, I know I will be shattered on Friday but it will be worth it. I can't wait to go on the Ferris wheel ( I hope ) and view the town centre in the dark with all the light's on, hope I can get some good picture's of all that and my son has managed to get all the picture's of the penquin's and their name's off the internet.

It is going to snow tomorrow Tec, just think of all the fun you can have building snowmen

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 15 Dec 2009 22:51

We had a very nice time Tec. It was a swish hotel which we got cheaply using Tesco vouchers, but then we spent a fortune on meals in the overpriced restaurant, but to quote and advert "i am worth it" lol

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 15 Dec 2009 22:53

I think snow is forecast for you, but not for us, though we had some on the mountains three weeks ago.
I actually like deep snow - but if there was deep snow here we would be cut off.........might be fun.

Hi Tec, it is quite cold here too but I am warm as I have one of my big Aran jumper's on and of cause tight's and sock's over them so I am nice and toasty until I go into my bedroom which is alway's cold because there is a terrible draught that come's through the floor board's from the shop below. I need to cover them with a plastic sheeting I think and then I will get a fully fitted carpet to go on top, at the moment I only have one that has gape's around the edge and no underlay.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 15 Dec 2009 22:54

There was loads of water everywhere, and no I don't mean in the lakes! Lots of the road edges had crumbled away and the walls and trees were down. There was snow on the top of the Kirkstone pass already

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 15 Dec 2009 23:00

I like the look of floor boards Diane, but they are difficult to seal. You can't win though because there always seems to be a draft coming from the bottom of the skirting boards.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 15 Dec 2009 23:03

Diane, Couldn't you cover those gaps temporarily 'till you get fitted carpet. Possibly a remnant of vinolay cut up enough to cover the gaps around what you have now - or fill the gaps with decorators filler .

Linda, They had torrential rain up there didn't they, so not surprised the road edges had crumbled - you didn't do any fishing then?
Had visions of you huddled underneath a big umbrella on the lakeside with a rod and line............very you I know!

Tec

Diane

Diane Report 15 Dec 2009 23:10

Linda, floorboard's are fine at ground level or above your own room's, but when there is only ceiling of shop below and then the beam's and your floorboard's it is hard to seal them as sealent just drip's down to gap between, and the shop is cold through the night so any heat from radiator in my bedroom is killed by the draught coming up. That is why when I do get round to recarpeting I will get some plastic sheeting and put it over the board's first to keep out the draught and then put underlay on top then finally the carpet.

No Tec, I didn't go fishing, I can't say that I have ever been fishing. I went shopping though!

The idea was to do the rest of the Christmas shopping and we bought all sorts of stuff yesterday, but by mid afternoon we realised that everything we had bought was for us, so the panic set in and we really concentrated and found the rest of the presents.

It was very cold,so wasn't fit to do anything else really. The hotel had lovely grounds, but we gave up even trying to walk through them because every where was just sodden.

Diane

Diane Report 15 Dec 2009 23:15

That's an idea Tec, decorator's filler I haven't tried that, which one would you recommend.
Linda were you anywhere near Cockermouth as I'm not sure if that is near were you stayed.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 15 Dec 2009 23:20

We stayed on Ullswater, but went only as far as Windermere, we went over the car ferry, and we went to Coniston water, but that was all we did this time. Cockermouth was further over towards the coast. There were trees and walls down all over the place, the whole area was so badly affected. It started to rain overnight and you could see the water just standing, so if there is much more rain, everywhere will just flood again.
